Obamacare is anti-life

  • Follow Letters

When the Obama administration’s health-care financing plan was signed into law, President Obama and Congress promised that funds under the new law would not cover abortions.

This has now proved to be empty rhetoric.

Why? Because the Department of Health and Human Services has mandated that, under the health-care law, private health insurance plans must cover the “full range of FDA-approved contraception” – in which category the HHS explicitly included the abortion-inducing drug “ella.”

This mandate includes a so-called “religious employer exemption,” yet the exemption is so narrowly defined that most religious schools, colleges, hospitals and charitable organizations serving the public do not qualify. Even an expanded definition of “religious employer” would fail to protect non-religiously affiliated organizations, individuals and even religiously affiliated health insurers whose pro-life consciences are nonetheless violated.

This is an unprecedented attack on the freedom of conscience of millions of Americans, eviscerating their freedom of choice to purchase private insurance that does not violate their ethical, moral or religious objections. I hope all readers will contact their elected representatives in Washington, D.C., and voice their outrage over this anti-life mandate.

We should allow our employer's religious beliefs to dictate our health care choices. We can have sort of a theocracy/plutocracy/corporatocracy/oligarchy combo. If Romney wins, maybe he'll throw in theodemocracy.

Mr. Cremer what women take,

Mr. Cremer what women take, and what they do with their bodies is their buisness. Why are so many men concerned.? The insurance companies pay for viagra!!! So why not pay for the pill? As for abortions, you people want it both ways,no abortions,no birth control. When a child makes it into the world, and the mother need;s help, then you people scream about welfare, food stamps etc. Make up your mind, better yet, stay out of women;s buisness!!!

"We should allow our

"We should allow our employer's religious beliefs to dictate our health care choices. "

Not at all, but since they are our employer and most pay for a portion of our medical premium and we make up the difference, then I believe they should have the right to decide what the policy entails and how much of the cost they are willing to cover. If I don't agree with what the policy covers then I should be free to opt out of that policy and choose another policy that better fits my needs (but the entire cost will remain as my responsiblity). It's all a matter of choice and responsiblity.

Because you also pay a

Because you also pay a portion, it's your business. You do not give up all of your rights when you become an employee. NO ONE should be allowed to force his/her religious beliefs on another person. If you don't want contraception, don't use it. If you don't want a pacemaker, don't get one. All medical options should be available, it's up to the individual to decide whether or not they wish to use them.

I have no problem with

I have no problem with insurance companies paying for viagra or birth control pills (not morning after pill or any medication that is used after the conception of life) but I sincerely hope that 1941 is not equating abortion as an option for birth control.

Becareful what you ask for. If you want men to stay out of women's business and it's women's business whether to have a child or not, once it's conceived, then it should be women's business that she support the child totally and keep men out of their business. I have no issues with lending assistance to a single mom, but do not agree that it should be for a life time.

I disagree Techfan. Since I

I disagree Techfan. Since I pay a portion does not give me the right to demand the owner to cover my every need. Because I pay a portion, I also have a right to decline coverage and choose another plan that suits me and my families need. Why do I get to impose my belief on the owner....just because he/she offers coverage. What if the employee choose not to offer any medical plan and each employee is on their own. Can an employee force the owner to provide some kind of medical coverage and if so, can an employee force the owner to cover all major and medical issues, pregnancy, heart related issues....how much is the owner suppose to cover in his policy? Where is the owner's right since it is force on him. When does the employee's will take over that of the owner. What if the employee wanted mental health issues covered (which some do not). Is it okay for the employee to demand the owner cover mental health conditions? When does it stop being the owner's company and become the employee's company?

So, your religious beliefs

So, your religious beliefs should influence another persons healthcare options? We're fighting a war because one group forced their religious beliefs on others. Let's not let that happen here.

Didn't say that Techfan....an employer's religious belief does not influence another persons healthcare. That person has every right to opt out of the plan his/her employer's offers and purchase a plan that suits their needs. Nothing is forced on anyone. It's not an either/or situation. You don't like the bill of goods I'm offering, go look somewhere else. You don't force your choices on me and I don't force my choices on you. Sounds simple to me.

Any why is that?

If I have a store and I choose not to serve alchoholic beverages because I don't approve of alcohol, am I going to be force to sell alcohol because you or someone else wants to drink alcohol so you demand that my store offers alcohol?

Is this not the same thing?

Discussing one's belief
Unpublished

Discussing one's belief system on this subject leads to a dead end. The real point is a financial and self control issue. It isn't my responsibility to pay for another persons irresponsible decision to have sex with reckless abandon. If they want to live their life that way it is their choice. But it is absolutely inexcusable that they and our federal government should want to take money that I earned and pay for their irresponsibility. This applies to companies also. They should not be held accountable for this.

Robert Bork wrote a book a while back call "Slouching toward Gomorrah." I think we are in a full tilt now.

I believe that any company
Unpublished

I believe that any company providing health care for employees and taking the premiums as a tax deduction, should be forced to provide the exact same policy for everyone including the owner or members of management. I further believe there should be no such thing as a "religious employer". Just what is the difference between a religious employer and a employer, they both are in the profit making business period. BTW can a "religious employer" refuse service to people not of the business' supposed beliefs? I don't think they think beyond their billfolds when it comes to customers.
