How about panhandlers?

  • Follow Letters

I wish to offer my gratitude to Richmond County sheriff’s officers for locking up 37 scalpers outside the gates of Augusta National Golf Club. It’s important that patrons be able to experience the tournament without being hassled by people looking for a badge.

Too bad that attitude hasn’t transferred over to the downtown area! I enjoy frequenting restaurants and shops downtown, but I don’t want to be hassled at every intersection by panhandlers. I guess there’s no money in it since, unlike scalpers, panhandlers can’t pay a $500 fine. Easy money, right?

That is exactly right Mr.

That is exactly right Mr. Griffin. One of the worst places downtown is the post office. I can't go into get my mail without being asked for money for some sob story someone comes up with. I wish the police or the places of business would wise up and do something about it.

Too bad the RCSO doesn't

Too bad the RCSO doesn't follow the "broken window" theory. Hopefully the new Sheriff will embrace this simple concept and clean up the county from the bottom up. Instead of focusing solely on big photo-op type law enforcement...

I think we have more

I think we have more important things to ask of our law enforcement resources. You don't want to give someone money? Say no, or ignore them outright. I don't think we need an officer to hold our hand while we do that, do we?
