Right to bear arms is safe

  • Follow Letters

Let me start by saying that I am a gun owner and have owned guns since I was a child. I strongly believe that every citizen has the right to own guns for protection, hunting and for anything else considered legal.

That said, the letter written by Jimmie Delk (“Protect your gun rights,” March 5) was outrageous. He accused President Obama and members of his Cabinet and staff of continuing “to try everything within their power to take away our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.”

As his source, he cites the National Rifle Association’s America’s First Freedom magazine, saying we should read this article if we have any doubt that his accusations against the president are true.

As a past member of the NRA, I learned that almost anything the NRA says cannot be taken as the truth. Articles such as this from the NRA are very common and are used to scare members into fighting back by contributing money to the cause or continuing their memberships.

Obama is innocent of these ridiculous charges and smear tactics. I have seen nothing since he was elected to suggest otherwise. I suggest the letter writer take a deep breath and relax. Our Second Amendment rights are safe with President Obama.

“Obama is innocent of these ridiculous charges and smear tactics.”

If you take smear tactics away from conservatives they’d be unarmed.

A well coordinated smear machine, being necessary to Republican electoral success, the right of conservatives to make stuff up, shall not be infringed.

President Obama has already

President Obama has already indicated he will have more flexibility if elected to a second term, and his statements regarding the 2d ammendment have not been completely clear or consistent regarding guns and gun control. Additionally, the President has shown a tendancy to use his administration to create/tighten regulations to impose his agenda, and use executive powers to establish policy in areas he opposes politically. Combined with his recent comments regarding the upcoming decision by the surpreme court on healthcare, this places a big question mark over what he may, or may not do if elected to a second term. I have little faith we have heard the final word from our President on the 2d ammendment, and the absolute right for gun owners to keep and bear arms.

The most Dangerous man in America! Obama had my support when he was elected(I did not vote for him, however) but as my president, he had my support! His socialist agenda is the reason he has lost my support! If you are a socialist, then I know you disagree and that is your right! But be careful what you wish for! You may get it! When everyone is on welfare, we will all be equal!

We have FOUR of NINE Supreme

We have FOUR of NINE Supreme Court Justices who believe that a local governmental body (in this case, the DC City Council) can ban gun ownership in a private home. Two of those four are Obama appointees. This is not opinion, this is FACT.

If you actually believe the rights of a gun owner are strong under this President, you are very sadly mistaken.

When I lived in Wash. D.C.,

When I lived in Wash. D.C., Carl T. Rowan, the famous journalist, a liberal gun control advocate, was confronted by teens sneaking in his backyard pool at night. When they advanced on him, he shot one in the hand with a gun that was not allowed. Heh, heh, heh. Typical liberal double speak.

I'm surprised that the

I'm surprised that the Senators from Washington DC would vote to confirm Justices with those beliefs. Ooops, that's right, they have no Senators and are forced to live under a system of taxation without representation. Give them full representation, then let the Supreme Court make decisions regarding them.

Right Austin, and during His second term many of us expect he and a more amicable congress will make some changes to this out of control 'get a gun' phobia that the NRA has promoted. An assault rifle ban would be a good starter.

"Fast and Furious".....an Obama/DOJ plan to prove American guns were killing people in Mexico -- and why the 2nd Amendment needed to be 'transformed' by Obama.......

Think the libs aren't scheming to control the flow of ammunition since they can't get the weapons banned?

Techfan...seeing how many

Techfan...seeing how many Obama supporters get representation WITHOUT taxation, I am not worried about those who chose to live in DC.

Don't cloud the issue...there are four SCJs who have no clue what the 2nd Amendment means, to go with a "Constitutional scholar" for a President who is also quite clueless in the same area.

The 2nd Amendment is as safe under Prez Obama as a cheeseburger is under Roseanne Barr's nose.

The biggest danger of four

The biggest danger of four more years of Obama is he may be able to shift the balance on the court with another appointee. If I were Romney, I'd emphasize that point.

faithson "An assault rifle

faithson

"An assault rifle ban would be a good starter."

The Clinton "assault weapon" ban was allowed to sunset for a very good reason-studies done for congress found that not only did the ban do nothing to prevent gun crimes-the studies also found that so-called "assault weapons" were never used in more than a very small percentage of gun crimes to begin with.
All the Clinton AWB did was ban some guns because they "looked scary"-it banned inane things like bayonet lugs, flash suppressors,adjustable/folding stocks-in other words-it banned things that looked scary to the anti-gun groups.
the anti-gun groups also used public confusion over the so-called "assault weapons"-brought on by anti-gun groups untrue claims that the "assault weapons" were designed to fire from the hip-spray fire, and were easily converted to full-auto-None of which was/is true.
The anti-gun groups also helped spread confusion and misinformation,by leading people to believe that anyone coukld walk into a gun shop, and walk out with a machine gun.

"...seeing how many Obama supporters get representation WITHOUT taxation". Typical right wing response. Clueless. Since most of the states that receive more from the fed than than they send in taxes are red states, it would appear that the opposite is true.

good points Starvin, but I

good points Starvin, but I for one don't see the need for the general ownership of assault rifles. If one has a rational use, for sure, jump the hoops and own one. I think there is a disconnect between 'guns' and the people who want to own them. No problem with ownership here, just want to make sure they are in the right hands. Same day ownership at gun shows being out of bounds.

In other words Starvin, banning "assault" weapons is just "feel good" legislation that hampers ordinary citizens who pose no threat.

Techfan...state by state

Techfan...state by state comparisons mean nothing...let's go voter by voter. Compare the lowest income neighborhoods nationwide to the highest income, and see what kind of numbers you get back.

Locally, the stats are nothing short of astounding. Cherry Tree Crossing vs. Westlake...East Boundry vs. Jones Creek...Laney-Walker vs. Goshen....Harrisburg vs. Summerville.

Compare residential property tax revenue in those areas, and the corresponding voting precinct totals...

Clueless? Not so much.
