Keep James as fire chief

I’d like to encourage the Augusta Commission to select Interim Chief Chris James to head the Augusta-Richmond County Fire Department.

Chief James stepped up to the plate when the top three retired suddenly. He is guiding our first responders through the challenges they face with such a sudden and quick change in leadership. Chief James brings continuity, strength and the work ethic needed to take the department to the next level.

I hope our commissioners will base their selection on merit, ability and capability, and that they will recognize the potential of a proven professional in our own ranks. Another local organization – the U.S. Army – has seven core values for which there is no compromise: loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, integrity, honor and personal courage (LDRSHIP). Chief James exemplifies those core values. Our firefighters and citizens will benefit greatly with him at the helm.
