Obama wants credit for Iraq

  • Follow Letters

Wow. President Obama claimed he pulled the troops out of Iraq, but it took three years for his promise to come true.

The reason we are leaving is that Iraq wants the United States gone, so Obama did not pull the United States out – he is being forced out.

Obama is in the “re-elect me” mode, so he’s going to pat himself on the back all he can to show how great he is and how he needs four more years to bring us to greatness.

'pulled the troops out'...

'pulled the troops out'... NO, President Bush negotiated the withdrawal of American troops and President Obama was just following the mandates of the 'signed treaty' between sovereign nations. It happened on his watch and thus is deserving of an accolade or two because of it. Don't make the mistake of thinking anything is 'over' in relation to IRAQ... We have trillions of dollars yet to be spent because of the ignorant decision to invade.

It takes time to remove

It takes time to remove troops and equipment from a war zone. Also- President Bush already had all these things setup, prior to Obama becoming President.

The writer is correct though, Iraq does want the United States to leave, since the military and contractors act in their own rules, never the Iraqi. It would be like some Chinese military folks patrolling our streets while they ignore our laws and constitution. We wouldn't want that as well.

The Narcissist in Chief wants

The Narcissist in Chief wants credit for EVERYTHING (except the crappy economy, the national debt that has ballooned under his reign, the freedoms he is silently removing from all the American sheeple and the disaster unfolding in the middle east that he aided with his kinetic military action).

I'm sure he's working out the details right now in Hawaii while he plays golf with his "friend" - a routine hooker user and eats $260 pork dinners. You know, things that all us us regular, every day, middle class citizens do.

I'm sure that Prezbho does

I'm sure that Prezbho does want credit for this.........he needs something to add to his resume' which at this time only has his "apology tour"....and "Obamacare" which will never go into effect. Without question, the most incompetent leader in the history of the U.S.A. And yes, I did not use the term "Presiden*", because it does not apply.

Obama shouldn't be able to

Obama shouldn't be able to fool his liberal fans by pulling out of Iraq and taking credit for it. He won the Nobel peace prize and yet has sent out more drone strikes in more countries this year, then Bush did his entire presidency. Where's code pink for that? Obama is now willing to have indefinite detention without trial of American citizens, just read the NDAA. These are things that should chill every American to your core.

Bush didn't negotiate

Bush didn't negotiate anything regarding leaving Iraq. The President of Iraq asked GWB for a timeline to leave and he refused to give one. Now Conservatives are claiming he negotiated leaving Iraq. The is the boldest lie told. If we had a Conservative President we would still be at war in Iraq. What great liars!!

No, the 2 Bush presidents get

No, the 2 Bush presidents get credit for the wars in Iraq. They also get credit for declaring victory in Iraq. I'm very glad we won. And I'm glad Obama is finally bringing our troops home, albeit way later than I'd have liked. Now, if he'd just declare victory and bring home the troops from Afghanistan.

Main article: U.S.Pres. G.W.

Main article: U.S.Pres. G.W. Bush–Iraq Forces Agreement

"In 2008, the US and Iraqi government signed the U.S.–Iraq Status of Forces Agreement which implements that all US forces would withdraw from Iraqi cities by 30 June 2009 and that All US Forces would be mandated to withdraw from Iraqi territory by 31 December 2011 under the terms of a bilateral agreement. On 14 December 2008, U.S. President George W. Bush signed the security pact with Iraq. In his fourth and final trip to Iraq.."

So, who agreed to a Dec 31, 2011 withdrawal of troops???

It is always comical to

It is always comical to witness Conservatives getting tangled in their own lies..... In a stunning diplomatic breakthrough for Barack Obama, Iraq's prime minister yesterday endorsed the Democratic candidate's 16-month timeline for withdrawing combat troops from Iraq.

Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki endorsed the Obama approach in a July 18, 2008 interview with the German magazine Der Spiegel, just as President Bush and Sen. John McCain were touting a vague new commitment to a "horizon" for withdrawal.
