Time to clean up the Tea Party's mess

  • Follow Letters

The recent congressional debacle brought on by the Republican and Tea Party doctrine that the government cannot raise revenue has brought this country to its economic knees.

The party of “no! no! no!” will not be satisfied until they have wiped out Social Security benefits and the new health-care benefits. The disintegration of the middle-class quality of life and an increase in the already enormous income gap between the rich and poor will be the result of their ideology.

Only last week, thousands of South Carolinians who could not afford health care were in lines winding outside a free health-care clinic. Hundreds were turned away when the free clinic ended after two days. Isn’t it ironic that South Carolina is the home of the biggest server of tea, U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint, who like his brethren doesn’t want to raise the revenue needed for health care even in his own state?

The downgrading of our financial rating has the Republican candidates crowing that it is President Obama’s fault. What short memories they have of the Republican president who refused to raise taxes but brought us two wars and an unneeded Part D of Medicare; lowered the tax rate of the rich; and borrowed all the money instead of raising it. The blame game goes two ways, but lands on the Republicans no matter how they deny it.

Let’s see if the new bipartisan committee established by the debt ceiling deal will do the job, which includes deep cuts to the Pentagon and the ending of Bush’s war. If you have your doubts, speak to Tea Partiers; they will make it clear that they won’t let it work.

The president tried his best, but was stained, as this country was, by the bitter tea that is being served on him and the rest of America. Removal of the stain will take much effort by Democratic and independent voters in the next election. It must be done!

KSL - "This just goes to show how stupid the liberal leaders think the general public is" Let us 'give credit where credit is due'.......You've got to admit it's an uphill challenge conveniencing simple minded people on the left that they've been lied to, misled, used, and abused for the purpose of keeping liberals in public office. How else could you explain the Democrat party masses -- and the fact their leader is stuck on stupid?

Of course it is. That's the dumbing down of Americans that's been going on for decades and generations who have been raised (correctly stated reared, but they have been raised like animals) to have no sense of personal responsibility and incentive.

As an addendum, people should review/read one of Ann Coulter's books, "Arguing with Idiots" prior to engaging in any discussion with a liberal.

Falsehope says :"Why doesn't America just drill for that 'evil' oil in the ground and sell it to China, India and anyone willing to buy it, using the oil money, and associated royalties to pay down the debt? Put hundreds of thousands to work, set up a real lock box to deposit oil profits/royalties in, and pay down the d@mn debt!!!"

We must realize that the market for oil is global and whatever the major oil corps pump out of American ground still gets sold on the open market for market price. The added supply would put downward pressure on prices, which is a good thing, but unless we created US OIL and all of the profits went straight to the gumment, drilling in the U.S. isn't much of a solution to the spending crisis. (yes, I did say spending and not "debt"crisis because that is what it is). I am totally in favor of drilling here just to put pressure on those holding us hostage to their oil monopolies; but again, unless we are willing to abandon conservative principles and have state run oil, it won't help much.

Increased jobs due to

Increased jobs due to drilling here would create tax revenues which would help in the solution of the debt crisis. Granted, not in the solution of the spending crisis. Cutting spending is the only thing that will help there. And of course, cutting spending in itself helps with the debt crisis. Increased jobs here equals more tax revenues. Less dependence on foreign oil means a better balance of trade. Energy independence translates into greater economic security. Kind of makes you wonder why Obama is anti all of that, doesn't it?

No, MyFather, the U.S. is not

No, MyFather, the U.S. is not on a gold standard any longer. The "our money" you are talking about above is not backed by the value of gold. The official (government) line is that "our money" is backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. government. That's pretty scary.

KSl. Unless it is state run,

KSl. Unless it is state run, the PROFITS go to the oil companies; that is where the money is. The only thing drilling here does is create SOME jobs, not tens of thousands (once the hole is in the ground, it is pretty much an automated process to pump it out.); and put downward pressure on global prices due to extra supply. You will still buy oil that may very well have come from Saudi Arabia or Venezuela. Unless the government forces private corporations to only sell American sourced oil in America, it is a moot point.

Standard and Poors was found

Standard and Poors was found to have made a 2 TRILLION $$$$$$$$$ Mistake.... What about that? Lets lower their rating and use the other two ratings that are STILL AAA.
The Tea party did not cause this 26+ yr old problem unless we discover they also cruise back and forth through time, which Lowell may claim is true.
