Bad journalism saps nation's freedom

  • Follow Letters

Freedom comes with a price, but it won't be journalism that pays it.

The May 29 Augusta Chronicle cartoon, which had a price tag wrapped around a soldier's grave marker, was an appropriate Memorial Day reminder to honor our fallen warriors. But unless journalism does an about-face, there will be an unpaid bill wrapped around a gravestone marked "democracy."

While our soldiers fight for every inch of ground they can get, journalism gives it all back. They print liberal Associated Press national news stories that are clearly anti-American, pro-socialist and pro-communist, handing over large parts of our democracy without a worry in the world -- a democracy for which others have fought and died.

A recent example, on Fox's The O'Reilly Factor , was a poll taken May 11 by liberal AP, in which it was reported that AP's fellow Democrat/socialist President Obama had a two-year-high approval rating of 60 percent.

So Obama has been transformed into one of the most popular socialists in the world. But it's all bogus, like all of AP's other "news" stories that 1,000 U.S. newspapers turn out by the ton. And democracy has a chance?

It turns out the poll was knowingly fixed by AP, as they asked each respondent which party he or she belonged to -- and with a tally of 35 percent Democrats to 18 percent Republicans, they announced Obama results as 60 percent.

And not one newspaper dropped AP, or even called to find out what's going on up there. How could they, when it's a monopoly, with United Press International's decline in the 1960s? And journalism hasn't bothered to notice any change.

So what about "the price of freedom" being "eternal vigilance"? It's not in journalism, not down at Sleepy Hollow. Everybody has to pay for journalism's incompetence and dishonesty. That's the journalism way.

Oh, I do appreciate those

Oh, I do appreciate those concepts. That's why I trust al-Jazeera more than any American corporate media outlet.

An absolutely silly letter.

An absolutely silly letter. This poll represented a random sample of Americans. There are many more Democrats than Republicans, thus more Democrats are represented in the poll. Republicans were included in the poll in proportion to their numbers nationwide. This poll was not fixed in any way and, is like most polls, reasonably accurate.

journalism wrecks democracy

journalism wrecks democracy when it acts as just a recorder and megaphone instead of doing fact-checking and research.
is it true that colin powell fibbed about tanks at the border of kuwait before that war and uranium before this current (iraq) war?

RHETOR, "There are many more Democrats than Republicans..." Really? Is that why they lost the house in the last election?

Wake up America...Everyone

Wake up America...Everyone knows that the American's media is bias to the left. The media cannot influence a well educated and informed population. Do not listen to what they say, watch what they do, and hold them accountable (where are the results?). This is a great letter. But the responsibility of maintaining, the Liberty our brave solders fight for, is with the people through their voting rights. Augusta just helped send John Barrow back to Washington (What has he ever done?). We will get what we deserve for that decision. Obama and Barrow are killing growth in America (neither have ever had a real job). We voted them in and we have to now live with the consequences. Yes i did not vote for either but I did nothing to help their opposition thus I am responsible. Quit blaming people and stand up

I get most of my news from

I get most of my news from alternative media sites. In fact, because of the debate, last night was the first time I watched CNN in 7 or 8 years. And I was annoyed with the host who, from time to time, could not hide his own liberal political views. To give him credit, he tried, it's just too ingrained in him.

When the media is funded by socialist/communists like George Soros it's no wonder the fix is in. Plus, our mainstream media is state controlled. The obama administration blacklists reporters who dare question him or who puts up You Tube videos from his events that don't go "according to plan".

Speaking of journalism these

Speaking of journalism these days, I can count on one hand and have fingers left over the names of true journalists these days. Tjhe NY Times was at one time the premiere source for real news of the day. Now you find it in the bath room for emergency use,.

Tjhe NY Times was at one time the premiere source for real news of the day. Now you find it in the bath room for emergency use. It is sad that the "4th estate" that used to guard our democracy has now become nothing more than the mouth pieces for the Democratic Party (Progressives/Socialists).
