Muslims are helping thwart terrorism

  • Follow Letters

If U.S. Rep. Peter King wanted to know what the Muslim community is doing to thwart terrorism (or not), he could have picked up a newspaper or quietly asked the FBI. Instead, he grandstanded in public hearings that will only be detrimental to the United States -- all for the sake of Republican King appealing to his xenophobic, Tea Party base. He has further alienated a community persecuted by his ilk.

What the record states:

- 2010: The Oregon Christmas tree bombing was diverted because of a Muslim informant.

- 2010: Muslim Alioune Niass spotted the suspicious vehicle used as a bomb to attack Times Square in New York City.

- 2010: Farooque Ahmed's alleged attempt to attack the subway system in Washington, D.C., was initially brought to the attention of authorities by a "source in the Muslim community."

- 2010: Mohammed Mahmoud Alessa and Carlos Eduardo Almonte are arrested, after the FBI receives an anonymous report in 2006 from one of the suspects' family members.

l 2009: Mosque leaders in Raleigh, N.C., contacted law enforcement about "violent, threatening action ... considered to be dangerous," leading to the arrest of Daniel Boyd and six others.

- 2006: Muslims in Ohio provided information helping to arrest and convict three suspects planning attacks in Iraq.

- 2003: FBI received tips from Muslims notifying them "military-style training" was being conducted by Ali al-Tamimi. The tip set in motion an investigation leading to the arrest of the so-called "Paintball 11" in Virginia.

l 2002: Members of the "Lackawanna 6" are arrested. The FBI became aware of their activities when a local Muslim tipped them off.

The record clearly shows Muslims working with U.S. authorities to thwart terrorists within their ranks. I fear that it may stop because of King's inane desire to make points with the Tea Party crowd.

Congratulations - An

Congratulations - An excellent job by the writer of obfuscation and misdirection with regard to the true efforts of congressman King. King is a patriot. What does that make the writer who makes no distinction between Muslim's who love America and Muslim extremists who would gleefully cut your four month old granddaughter's throat?

The Muslim guy with a beard

The Muslim guy with a beard is a terrible stereotype, all the 9/11 hijackers were clean shaven. The focus should be on the person's behavior, if they seem to be nervous, or muttering prayers in public places, or if the clean-shaven middle eastern looking guy in a suit has a huge bulge in his jacket. If someone buys a one-way airline ticket and pays cash, or if they double-back and use counter surveillance techniques, if they're a white guy sitting on a parked car across the street from Planned Parenthood taking pictures, that's how you can tell someone is up to no good, whether they're Muslim, Irish or a bunch of crazy rednecks.

Not all terrorists are Muslim either, the earliest terrorist attacks suffered by this country were perpetrated by the Ku Klux Klan, who called themselves Christians. Scott Roeder killed an abortion doctor with the ultimate objective of closing his clinic and intimidating other doctors (classic def of terrorism: use of violence to achieve political objectives), Timothy McVeigh was an atheist, the UK suffered a wave of bombing in the late 1970s all done by the IRA, those guys weren't Muslim either.....

Let's do some math, and see how serious the terrorism problem is.

Wikipedia lists about 100 terrorist attacks for 2010:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L...

Assume that each attack involved 20 personnel attacking (attackers and support personnel).
Assume that for each such group that attacked, there is 9 more such groups.
Assume that they are all Muslim.
You have 20k terrorists, out of a total Muslim population of about 1 Billion. The extremists are having a pretty hard time of it.

Mr Ledo, the underlying theme

Mr Ledo, the underlying theme of your letter reveals the threat we face. In every instance you cite, Muslims in the USA were planning attacks.

You mislead readers by stating Rep King's hearings are about wanting to know what US muslims are doing to thwart terrorism. That, sir, was only part. Most important is that recruiting is going on on our soil.

I applaud the muslims you cite as informers. The fact remains, all those arrested were Muslims but for NC. You are your worst antithesis.

From Newsweek:

"the FBI, who are probing whether al-Shabab or other Somali Islamic groups are actively recruiting in a few cities across the United States. The officials say as many as 20 Somali-Americans between the ages of 17 and 27 have left their Minneapolis homes in the past 18 months under suspicious circumstances."

"Their investigation deepened when one of the missing men, Minnesotan Shirwa Ahmed, blew himself up alongside other suicide bombers in Somalia last October, killing dozens of al-Shabab's political opponents and civilians..."

http://www.newsweek.com/2009/01/23/recruited-for-jihad.html#

"Through the years, former Rep. Jane Harman, D-Calif., held four hearings on extremism while serving as an intelligence subcommittee chairwoman; and Sen. Joe Lieberman, D-Conn., held several more as head of the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee. King's hearings have been labeled McCarthy-like for targeting Muslims specifically."

So Mr Ledo, save your partisan, political and emotional rhetoric for those in your personal discussion group who will swallow and second what you spout. The rest of America is smart enough to understand facts.

Muslims are helping "thwart terrorism" just like gasoline helps to thwart fires. I have some oceanfront property in Arizona for sale-I'm from the government and I'm here to help you. One drug dealer informs on another dealer and while the cops are seizing and busting him for a kilo of coke, the informer is bringing in 50 tons.

Well done Michael, with you

Well done Michael, with you confirming all of these Muslim related crimes that have been committed. Just another example of why these hearings are vital.

And, as stated earlier, you have many of your Democrat elected officials who have held their own hearings along this same subject line, minus all the contempt from fellow Democrats.

You probably need to spew elsewhere....you've been had in this forum!

Peter King held the hearing

Peter King held the hearing on "The Extent of Radicalization IN the American Muslim Community ...". You would have thought to see the crying and name calling that he said "OF the American Muslim Community". There is a big difference in the use of "in" and of".

Were the muslims who

Were the muslims who "celebrated" the slaughter of the Israeli family "doing what they could" to stop terrorism? I don't know about you but I think stabbing a baby & child to death is the most hideous of crimes ever to be done.

Where is the muslim outrage over this?! Answer. There is none.

We are at war. Because they are at war with us. Bury your head in the sand if you want for now but if you fail to recognize this, they'll take care of your head for you eventually.

We are already so intimidated

We are already so intimidated by Muslims that few American newspapers had the guts to publish the Danish Mohammed cartoons.

Nor will they report the rapes and genocide being perpetrated by black men against whites (who are strangers) in the United States. Given that black men are just 6-7% of the population, it is a staggering criminal "achievement".

The "victims" of discrimination are really the brutal victimizers and we are too politically correct, or cowardly to discuss the truth.
