Coach's departure must be explained

  • Follow Letters

Recently, much has been said and printed about what has happened with Paine College and the departure of its former longtime basketball coach, Ron Spry. However, the president of Paine has not come forward and explained what is going on.

Paine College is a mainstay in Augusta. With its noted history it has been a great asset here and for the deep South. President George Bradley must come forward and explain to everyone what is going on.

I don't want to demean the president, but he must realize that lots of people now feel he is not aware that the word "smart" is in the dictionary just after "ignorance" and just before "stupid."

Paine College is supported and run to some degree by the Methodist Church. Because of that, Dr. Bradley must know that God's vision and direction, according to the Bible, says that man must be obedient and do to others what he would want them to do to themselves,

So if Dr. Bradley believes this, then he must act and bring closure to what is becoming a nasty situation.

Joseph Diggs Sr.

Augusta

I don't see why President

I don't see why President Bradley needs to give an explanation on this situation. I am sure President Bradley clearly explained to Mr Spry in private why he was being terminated. This is a private matter.
If I was terminated, I would want nor expect my boss to hold a "press conference" to discuss and explain my termination. Move on....I am sure they will find someone quite competent to replace Mr Spry.

Unpublished

Mr. Diggs, "mind your own business" is between "ignorance" and "stupid" in the dictionary, too.

Mr. Diggs, It is none of your

Mr. Diggs, It is none of your business or mine on why he was fired and 99.9% of people really could not care less!!! Heaven forbid he was fired for not doing his job. Call the NAACP. That is what would happen if the president was white. Sometimes it is better to be thought of as an idiot than to open ones mouth and remove all doubt. If you think he will give an explaination just because "you want to be nosey" the above mentioned applies.

Has anyone considered that

Has anyone considered that Paine College may be doing Ron Spry a favor by not releasing any details?

All I will say to Mr. Diggs

All I will say to Mr. Diggs is read Psalms 37 and find peace within that!! Coach Spry knows the truth, his family know the truth, and a select few other individuals know the truth also. As far as I'm concerned, you can't believe anything that comes out of the president's mouth anyway! So there's no gaurantee that if he did come forth with an explanation of what happened that there would be any validity in his statement! So I say to you again Mr. Diggs, READ IT,DIGEST IT,AND FIND PEACE WITH KNOWING THAT GOD KNOWS THE TRUTH IN THIS SITUATION, and only He can make the finally judgement on how these individuals will be handled.

If Paine college was not

If Paine college was not constantly bombarding our mail boxes for contributions maybe we should not be concerned about the perception that is coming from the president. The coach was willing to coming out and address the media but the CEO decided to hide behind the Panther's cage. Oh! He did appear on 26 for a few brief words stating he was not present at the press conference because he delegates those matters to immediate supervisors. The next day when a new golf coach is named who do you think was at the press conference in the rain, in Columbia County. A good leader can handle adversity as well as opportunity but not this guy.

If the coach was

If the coach was fired/terminated, it was most likely for a good reason. Why is it anyone else's business? Mind your manners Joseph Diggs Sr and butt out of things that do not pertain to you.

When you are a public entity

When you are a public entity and you very publicly ask the city of Augusta for a handout every time they turn around then you should also be public with dealings that will let investors know whether or not they want to contribute to your organization. Since they feel the need to never comment on their dirty dealings, I will feel the need to do the same thing with my checkbook they’ve done with their mouths, keep it closed. I advise all other alumni do the same. No more SPLOST for you Paine if it’s up to my vote! What have they done with it anyway. Hey, there’s a story AC.
