Murder-scene photo was inappropriate

  • Follow Letters

I was appalled by the insensitivity of the editors of your front-page article "A deadly year" (Jan. 2) in choosing the file photo shown to demonstrate the senseless crimes of 2010. Do the editors have no insight into the effect the picture has on the family and friends of victim James Benny Tidwell?

It is bad enough such photos are used at the time of the crime, but to be in a stage of healing from the intense pain caused by such actions and have this splashed across the paper unexpectedly is totally inappropriate. Perhaps the editors need to picture their own loved ones in the body bag being transported to the hearse.

Please think about the way such pictures affect perfectly innocent people before printing them again. There is no need to further sensationalize tragedies such as this by inflicting additional grief upon those with still-raw wounds.

Nothing unusual here. It's the Chronicle's job to profit from tragedy. They take it very seriously.

So what, it's just a picture! If it offends you that much, don't look at it!

Really smart comment,

Really smart comment, puppylovE. Exactly how do you propose someone avoids seeing it if they don't know it's there? Should they just stop looking at the newspaper altogether?

We'll wait while you explain it to us.
