Pro-Democrat letter assumes too much

  • Follow Letters

Regarding Lowell Greenbaum's Nov. 10 letter ("Democrats fared better than you think"), it probably was not wise to submit it. He brings up the unprecedented thumping Democrats took across America, then boasts how Richmond County bucked the trend.

He wrote, "It shows that with all the negativity and diatribes against our candidates by The Augusta Chronicle, it did nothing to change the voters' minds in Augusta." He assumes the aforementioned group reads and comprehends the articles he referenced.

He also notes they "figured out the right way to go despite all the propaganda and lies about socialism and communism coming our way." What does he call a government takeover of the health industry; the student loan industry; cap-and-trade; those Supreme Court nominees; and Eric Holder and other appointments? Most of us in the Milky Way relate Obama's first 22 months in office to socialism and communism, or at least Marxism.

Now Obama must listen to Republicans, or at least fake it. Speaking on economic reform he said, "We don't mind the Republicans joining us. They can come for the ride, but they gotta sit in back."

U.S. Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., questioned him in January 2009 about the stimulus bill, and the new president said, "I won" -- indicating it was simply his way. Perhaps he was not taught about the American government's separation of powers while a student at an Islamic school in Jakarta, but he allegedly passed a bar exam in America, so a reasonable inference would be that he was exposed to it.

This month he referred to Republicans as "enemies."

Before that, he said a Republican win in November will lead to "hand-to-hand combat."

All of this from the commander in chief who refuses to call terrorists "terrorists" or use the term "war on terror." This attitude and history of divisive and racist comments is not reminiscent of any Nobel Peace Prize recipient I know of.

Obama simply used the same

Obama simply used the same rhetoric the right used against him. The whole dog and pony show of American politics is ridiculous. All of the political parties trick followers into believing they have the best interests of the American people in mind when the two parties actually work to keep us divided and factionalized.

Lowell was right of course,

Lowell was right of course, Augusta did buck the national trend. That isn't saying much given that Augusta is going to vote Democrat in every election no matter who runs or what issue is on the ballot.

Put a stuffed horse on the ticket with a "D" after it's name and it will take seventy percent of the vote against any Republican in Richmond County. The pity is, Greenbaum and company see that as some kind of great victory. Thankfully, Augusta does not represent America. Someday perhaps, but probably not in your lifetime.

two years down and a great

two years down and a great victory. two more years to go.

Obama sacrificed all those Dems in Congress. 600+ more in state legislatures. At least 10 governor seats went GOP. All that for his "agenda". He couldn't have waited, couldn't have strung out health care while working on something important, like, JOBS and ECONOMY.

This guy doesn't care about you, me, fellow liberals or even his wife. (see how he dissed, heck, ignored her after her introduction of him at Dem convention 2004). He's even willing to sell himself down the river in order to inact as much Alinsky agenda as he can before his term is up.

Comrade Lowell has one thing right. Liberals can always depend on those who depend on big governement. Exactly why Obama is determined to make that class as large as possible.

Class warfare is the classic Marxist, Alinsky way to do that. Who decided $250,000 was "RICH"? Obama and Pelsoi and Reid. Do not let them define things this way. They drill this into the heads of the entitlement crowd so often, they believe it.

We forced their hand on global warming. The Chicago Climate exchange shut down in Oct. Al Gore lost a fortune. No wonder. It was a scheme Bernie Madoff would have been proud of.

BTW, wonder how the sea rising is affecting Al's new Malibu sea-side mansion?

Southern Richmond Co played a part in reelecting John Barrow. Now you know why Augusta has not kept up with others cities who have redeveloped and progressed. You liberal will now get what you deserve by electing these liberals. When will you start holding these politicians accountable??? It appears many other parts of the US did...So enjoy what you elected and keep complaining that nothing is getting better for you.

Yep, RC and Greenbaum vote

Yep, RC and Greenbaum vote Democrat consistently. And they continue to wonder why CC and NA clean our clocks on development, crime rate, standard of living, cleanliness, and everything else you might wish to compare. Keep on electing them Democrats RC. Your schools are down the tubes, crime is exploding, the roads are horrible, and you are being taxed just like the folks who live in a REAL city with services and everything. Instead of talking about their RC election success, Mr. Greenbaum should talk about their history of failures in their actions.

Nobody here knows what the

Nobody here knows what the word communism means. You just throw it around. You speak of government taking over with the Democrats-what do you think happened with the Iraq War. Bush declared war on another country when he made up the reason and that's the beginning of what started our huge deficit and it's still making our deficit huge.
The stimulus package helped the middle class tremendously. Bring all the troops home and you will see how we can lower the deficit.

Bush is NO longer in office, and, the stimulus did NOT help the middle class! It was to bring unemployment down to what, 5-8%? Instead, since its passage we LOST 3,000,000+ jobs and unemployment is in double-digits.

Despite their gains in last

Despite their gains in last week's elections, Republicans are seen less favorably than Democrats overall. Forty-six percent of Americans have a favorable view of Democrats. The favorability rating for Republicans is 42 percent, with their unfavorable rating at 48 percent.

"Rich folks are always

"Rich folks are always happier than poor folks."

I'm happy as I need or want to be. I'm not rich but I am retired and able to pay my bills without borrowing.

However, I remember other, very happy times. My dad supported a family of four working as an usher at the town's only theater in Sumter, SC. I until I started school, I had just one pair of shoes that I could only wear to church on Sunday.

We ate a lot of what later became known as "Soul Food" but it was filling and my mom was a great cook. When I was a little older, I managed to get a paper route and supplement my dad's income.

We wouldn't have dreamed of accepting charity in the form of taxpayer money. We took care of ourselves and were happy to have each other.

Today, many of us consider ourselves "oppressed" if we aren't able to buy a pair of $200 Air Jordan sneakers. That makes us unhappy?? Reliance on handouts destroys us and kills our ambition. It takes away our independence and even our ability to think for ourselves. Worse, it gives someone else power over us and our future.

Glad my family was spared that curse.

TNTHOMSON, while your statements are somewhat true, you fail to acknowledge the republicans are just as bad. Republicans are willing to put Americas security and sovereignty at risk so large corporations can make quick fortunes. The Republicans, like the Democrats, want to suppress any criticism of elected officials who are members of their parties. The Republicans, like the Democrats, believe elected officials only represent those who voted for them and do not have an obligation to all of the people in their districts. The Republicans, like the Democrats, attempt to divide the nation through rhetoric and fear mongering.

Both parties are despicable and both have contributed to the ruination of our economy.

Repubs won this round because

Repubs won this round because the voters found them to be somewhat less stinky than the Dems. Anybody here remember why the GOP lost control of Congress in 2006? Hint: It wasn't because they were lousy dancers. For the nation's sake, I really hope they've learned their lesson this time around. Otherwise, just a few years from now, we'll Monday morning quarterbacking the NEXT congressional shakeup.

Dave, ‘Both parties are despicable and both have contributed to the ruination of our economy.’
While I agree both parties are at fault, one reason I’m an independent, the progressive/socialist have pretty much taken over the democrat party. The big socialist groups like move.org and the large labor unions have taken it over. The unions’ pension funds are in deep dodo and they want the federal guvamint, taxpayers, too bail them out which Hussein is already doing.
The Tea Party is doing everything we can to get the socialist/progressives out be it DUMocrat or repub.

Everybody in this country

Everybody in this country gets one vote.

While the Republicans gained seats this time, they didn't win every race- and the US public has a whole lot of people that don't care for Republicans.

At this time, nobody knows how the elections will turn out 2 years from now. Nobody on either side should start counting their chickens. Because Democratic governors were just elected in California and New York- which control a lot of Electoral College votes.
