Beck closer to 'dream' than Sharpton

  • Follow Letters

What a privilege to have attended the Restoring Honor rally hosted by Glenn Beck, flanked by hundreds of thousands of American citizens -- including hundreds of pastors, rabbis and other clergy members; notables from the military; great community heroes/heroines; and their families. It was an honor to have "touched" the greatness of America in Washington, D.C., on Aug. 28.

While Beck was espousing unity, urging the coming together of this nation's masses under the godly principles that established America's greatness -- namely Judeo-Christian beliefs -- another rally was being held the same day in D.C. by the Rev. Al Sharpton, who was espousing hatred and the theft of the Rev. Martin Luther King's legacy.

Sharpton has misconstrued, misinterpreted and thwarted the very dream that once was King's, by his surmising that "the dream" only belongs to certain segments of America's population.

While Sharpton was criticizing Beck for hijacking "the dream," perhaps it is time that we look a bit more closely at statements that King made in his famous "I Have a Dream" speech. Perhaps Beck is much closer to King's truth than is Sharpton.

In King's own words, we can see the desertion of Sharpton from the dream and the adoption of the dream into Beck's philosophy of unity and peace:

"Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline."

In my thinking, Sharpton stands condemned for his hijacking of King's message!

Sharpton needs to attend the next Beck rally.

Lady, you have been Becked.

Lady, you have been Becked. Beck is a FAKE, making plenty money off of you all. Check his income for last year----23 millions.. It has gotten so good that Sarah Palin said, "Let me make some of that money fooling a bunch of people".

Glenn Beck is an old radio shock jock who's made it to the big time on TV. Hate speech is in big demand by the older white generation. But what the heck? The man is making money and the old folks are gobbling the visceral and enjoying themselves. They're not had so much fun since the rally days of old!

Rozzie2003: How does a

Rozzie2003: How does a person's income make them a "fake?" If you want to earn some $$$, then brush up on your English and write a few books. If your topic is one of interest, you'll be on the best seller list for quite a spell. And how is it "fake" when all Beck was doing was showing folks that truth, honesty, faith, hope, charity, responsibility, and accountability marks a man of good character? From what I have read on this posting and others, it seems that some folks are sorry the wealth isn't going to be redistributed as the big O promised....well, just chalk that up to one of his many broken promises. Besides, if it were my money he planned to "redistribute," he'd have a dang hard time trying to force me!!!!!!!!

Great letter!!! If the no-sayers would listen to the two speeches they might be able to see the difference. I did not hear any hate in Beck's speech and did in Sharpton's.

Nonsense, Underwood. This is the same Beck who called the President a racist, ridiculed the President's young daughter, questions the President's Christian belief as being somehow difference from other Christians and who is making a living rabble-rousing the gullible to hate our President. The self-professed "rodeo clown" has made millions off the hatred and fear of his followers, something the namesake of Christianity never did.

Why are we contrasting

Why are we contrasting Sharpton and Beck? I just don't see the comparison. Yes, both are great performers to their respective fans, both drool idiocy the minute a crack forms between their lips, and they both had big parties in the same hood a few days back. Other than that, I don't see any rational connection. This is a suspicious choice by the AC.

‘Beck is a FAKE, making

‘Beck is a FAKE, making plenty money off of you all. Check his income for last year----23 millions.’
Ignorance can be cured stupidity is forever. Beck makes his money from what he is paid for his TV & radio shows, books and personal appearances. Beck makes no money off ‘you’ unless ‘you’ choose to buy books or go to his appearances. Unlike the black leaders like Sharpton and Jesse who go around asking poor blacks for donations for the CAUSE. All donations for the 8/28 rally went to our fallen soldiers.

The same guy who performed

The same guy who performed black "schtick" on his old radio show, called a guy he was feuding with (after the guy's wife had a miscarriage)and announced over the air, "We hear you had a miscarriage" then proceeded to joke how the guy couldn't do anything right, even have a baby The guy who just recently had a link to neo-Nazis as one of his "fav" tweets. The guy whose hero is W Cleon Skousen, who wrote Beck's number one book suggestion. and colored American history through Mormon conspiracy theories and end time prophesies (just like Beck). Skousen who wrote that slaves were "a cheerful lot", that ripping apart married slaves was, "one of the blessings of slavery", and that the slaveowners were the, "worst victims of slavery." Beck meets the criteria for both narcissistic personality disorder and paranoid personality disorder. It's scary that so many follow him blindly. Dr King would be holding rallies against Beck and his minions, not supprting them.

Unsurprisingly, all the naysayer posts have insults tucked into them to attempt to 'strengthen' their comments. "We have Beck is a fake, movement of Lemmings, McCain and the Bimbo, Beck is a lunatic and a joke, drool idiocy" etc.......

I'm pleased to see that Beck's respectful rally and supporters are a brilliant contrast to the behavior of Sharpton's rally and his supporters. The behavior on here really demonstrates the difference in attitude.

Wonderful LTE Ms Underwood.

Your problem is you are continuing to believe the racist lies that have been preached in black communities and black churches for years and now on MSNBC. Beck was ridiculing Hussein not his daughter. Hussein has said a number of times that he believes in “collective salvation, and there is no such thing in the Christian faith. ‘Collective salvation’ was made up by James Hal Cone. Read the Bible as Beck does.

I would like to see a video after Sharpton’s rally and compare the amount of trash left on the grounds. After Beck’s rally was over there was no trash on grounds unlike after the inaugural last year when there was tons of trash everywhere.
I guess Beck's rally was a different class of people

Because, for some reason, we seem so sensitive this morning about event scheduling, perhaps Mr. Glenn could consider holding his next white-out on a Monday holiday in January. If I know Washington, God's production design should make the perfect setting for such an event.

Just like Jesse Jackson, Fat
Unpublished

Just like Jesse Jackson, Fat Al Sharpton is one of the race pimps that have the same message..."We've been discriminated against because of our race. We deserve to be take care of by others." Personal responsibility and self reliance are things he scoffs at. In his narrow mind, taxpayer funded government programs are the only thing that are important, and anyone who doesn't support them is a racist. Case closed.

There is a big difference in

There is a big difference in the two men. Sharpton is a self-promoter and has become desperate. His donors are playing out and there are no job openings for one with his job capabilities.

Beck on the other hand, is living the big dream. Making money and enjoying himself. (IF) it is true that he is as much of a charlatan as Sharpton, then he too will fall.

Right now it is Beck who is on top, Sharpton's time has come and gone.

Chacush, I'd loved to have seen a video of it also. There was a good one after the Beck rally and as you know since you were there, the grounds were impeccably clean. Seeing the difference between Obama's inauguration and the Beck rally demonstrates a vast difference in attitudes regarding personal responsibility by the attendees/followers.

You're right Maggiemae,

You're right Maggiemae, Sharpton tries to remain in spotlight by tricking his followers into believing that Beck's rally was for the sole purpose of hi-jacking Martin Luther King's anniversary day, 'I have a dream' speech ( I wonder how many of them actually fell for it?). Sharpton is desperately trying to recapture his former days of recognition but his message is coming out as nothing more than a jealous whine.

NOTREALLY, considering you don't even know me, do you really think you have the right to judge me? I haven't judged you. Funny how conservatives are always the ones being accused of hate posting, but liberals are the ones I see making it personal. And please, tell me what I posted about Sharpton that wasn't true.
