Obama keeps stalling over Cole bomber

  • Follow Letters

Oct. 12 will be the 10th anniversary of the bombing of the U.S.S. Cole, and our illustrious president has made the decision to put the prosecution of the alleged perpetrator on hold for an indefinite period. Why?

This cowardly act took the lives of 17 American sailors and left 17 families to mourn their loss. I feel that 10 years is more than enough time to bring the accused to justice and give the families of our fallen sailors the closure and sense of justice they so richly deserve!

It is apparent that the decision to stall is a political move -- nothing more. The team of prosecutors was ready months ago and seemed confident that Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri would be arraigned this summer. Enter the Justice Department -- who, in the U.S. Court of Appeals, said that "no charges are either pending or contemplated with respect to al-Nashiri in the near future."

The speculation is that the Obama administration does not want to go ahead with the prosecution of a high-value detainee without some prospect of civilian trials for other major figures held at Guantanamo Bay.

Mr. President, please stop playing politics with the call to justice for 17 American sailors! Stop now!

James Nixon

Aiken, S.C.

If he stalls another two

If he stalls another two years, it will be overcome by events. He will be moving back to Chicago, and the new Republican president will take care of this issue.

Perhaps it's stalled because
Unpublished

Perhaps it's stalled because of lack of evidence to get a conviction. If there's NO conviction- those who applauded the attack will view it as a victory against the US and perhaps inspire more attacks. Yes, 10 years is a long time- but if the case cannot be won now, then there may not be another chance to win it at all.

The prosecution is being

The prosecution is being delayed while the legal issues about military commissions are unsnarled. Don't forget that the Bush administration held this guy--and hundreds like him--for years and put exactly none of them on trial. It wasn't for lack of desire. The legal system is not designed for cases like this, the technical questions are complex, and no one wants to see the whole thing overturned on appeal.

Obama is simply incompetent!

Obama is simply incompetent! No other word fits.
1)Close Gitmo in a year..Failed promise.
2) Hold trials for terror suspects in open court in New York..Failed promise.
3)Keep unemployment below 8%..Failed promise.
4) Open meetings about helath care refrom on C-span ..failed promise.
5) Hire no lobbyists..failed promise
6) Most open government..Failed promise.
This is just a short summary of SOME of Obama's broken promises. Obama is to busy sueing Arizona and Joe Arpaio to bother with stinking terrorist. It is more important to lodge a complaint with the UN against Arizona than hold trials for the terrorists....It is more important to spend money to build windmills in China with stimulus money than hold trials for terrorists. It is more important to campaign constantly than hold trials for terrorists. I think Obama simply has to full a schedule and can't bother with terrorists.. Or Obama is simply incompetent and he really doesn't have any idea how far in over is head he is..

Rethor-Nice try but

Rethor-Nice try but complaints about Bush blocked the trial of terrorist..Remember the militry tribunals and efforts to block them, it went all the way to the Supreme Court? Of course not! www.washingtonpost.com › ... › Special Reports › Supreme Court. So Bush had to start form square one, then Obama got elected. Obama tried his first terrorist Aug 10th 2010 at a tribunal! Once again a flip flop! Obama was against it before he was for it before he was aginst it until he was president then he was for it (it being militry tribunals)! english.aljazeera.net/news/americas/2010/.../2010892656701361.html Bush's first Gitmo trail occured in July 2008 www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=92768069

Sorry Rhetor, but this can be laided squarly at the feet of liberals who tried to block every thing Bush did! Where was the bipartisanship then? LOL

So, is it becoming obvious

So, is it becoming obvious why the war crimes trials shouldn't be handled by the Justice Department? Is it obvious, yet, why war crimes shouldn't be judged by politicians?

Expect obama to do NOTHING

Expect obama to do NOTHING about this.

Anything that offends blacks (black panther case), hispanics (Arizona issue), muslims (mosque, this issue, wars, nuclear weapons by iran) or the poor/welfare/non-tax paying crowd will be ignored or "righted" according to his warped principals.

Can someone please figure out a way to impeach this clown?

Even incompetence has it's supporters these days, as does malfeasance, idealogy, misrepresentation, unscrupulousness, dishonesty, demoralization, venality, breach of trust, and lying.

All hallmarks of the current president, his cabinet, and his policies.

FYI, the 9/11 bunch,

FYI, the 9/11 bunch, including KSM, all agreed to plead guilty and take their punishment, but no, our enlightened president and his stooge, Eric Holder, declined that offer, and instead have sat on their hands, vascillating back and forth, trying to figure out what which way the wind is blowing.

Even now, as in this case, they still are debating the issue, and will most likely just continue to ignore the whole thing.

Pathetic.

This is not on Obama's radar

This is not on Obama's radar screen. He is only interested in stuff if he can tax somebody and redistribute their money, sue/prosecute a conservative, or buy some union votes. Prosecuting a terrorists might offend his buddy Bill Ayers. After all, Obama knows he will be moving back to Chicago shortly. He don't want to PO the homies.

1. I didn't blame it on Bush;

1. I didn't blame it on Bush; I pointed out that he wasn't able to work out all of the legal tangles which were quite complicated. 2. Bush tried very hard to develop the prosecutions. 3. Carcraft's link doesn't show that liberals did anythingto block the hearing, but rather that a Gitmo defendant's own lawyers took his case to the Supreme Court and won. I would also like to see these accused terrorists prosecuted, but it should be done legally. In a larger sense, these issues are difficult enough without fabrication of facts.

The writers point is well
Unpublished

The writers point is well taken; obama's inaction in this matter is inexcusable. We simply MUST get this incompetent and dishonest person out of office. His policies and practices are beyond imagination. I often wonder what the brave men and women who fought in wars for our country, and especially those carrying debilitating war injuries for the rest of their lives, think about all this. I've personally asked a few and never found one who approve of obama. We need to get obama and his slimy friends out of office and return our country to greatness. I don't know everything about every president we've ever had but I have to agree with Ben Quayle that obama is the worst president we've ever had (or at least one of the worst).

grouse - Might want to check

grouse - Might want to check his use of the English language. Definition of euphemism (n) less offensive synonym: a word or phrase used in place of a term that might be considered too direct, harsh, unpleasant, or offensive. In this case, those who hate the Tea Party have deliberately gone to the bath houses of San Francisco to dredge up the most offensive word they could find to describe these defenders of the Constitution. (Imagine their surprise when it didn't fly with the American public. And they thought they were being so cute.) As for Bush, that's the man's name. Wasn't "invented" by his political opponents. In any event, the word grouse wants to use so badly, (mean, inaccurate and hateful) is the exact opposite of a "euphemism".

I sure wish that Obama would

I sure wish that Obama would stop trying to convince people that he is for the middle class, when we know that the unions have him in their pocket and while the middle class can't find even a minimum wage job, many, many union workers have jobs , some created by the Obama himself, making $75.00 + an hour. How can we take him seriously on anything.

Chillen - Therapist say you have to acknowledge your failings before you can be cured. For example, an alcoholic has to stand up in front of a group and confess to being an alcoholic. Same is true for conservatives. Looks like there's hope for you! If you feel a weakness coming on - remember Bah humbug Scrooge's conversion!
