Ground Zero mosque idea is misguided

  • Follow Letters

We have the right to free speech. But in the case of the particular Muslims who wish to build a mosque near Ground Zero: The theater is crowded, and the Muslims are about to yell, "Fire!"

Just because a constitutional right exists, it does not always mean it is entirely appropriate to exercise that particular right at all times.

The same individuals supporting the Muslims' right to build the mosque also are against prayer in public schools. Where does the hypocrisy end?

The more you study muslims

The more you study muslims the less it will seem like a religion. While Westerners tend to think in terms of religious people developing a personal understanding of and relationship with God, Sharia advocates executing people who ask difficult questions that could be interpreted as criticism.

Radical Islamists are working

Radical Islamists are working to impose sharia on the world. If that happens, Western civilization will be destroyed. Westerners generally assume all religions encourage a respect for the dignity of each individual. Islamic law (Sharia) teaches that non-Muslims should be subjugated or killed in this world.

You're wrong Mr. Hagler. A

You're wrong Mr. Hagler. A citizen can exercise his constitutional rights at ALL times and the U S Justice Department should deploy Federal Marshals or even the National Guard to protect threatened citizen who're exercising their rights. Just like protecting the blacks when they were exercising their rights and desegregating schools in old Alabama. The law has to prevail and not mob hysteria.

Soldout, isn't it comforting

Soldout, isn't it comforting to know that not all muslims (Islamists) are influenced by the Wahhabi sect of Islam; the sect that originated in Saudi Arabia (in the early 1800's) and is the one that advocates Sharia law?

And isn't it also interesting to note that about the same historical time Wahhabism was gaining popularity the Spanish Inquisition was taking place. Of course, burning Joan D'Arc was 400 years earlier. But, even christians were as wicked as the Wahhabi's at that time.

No religion is free from radicalism, sir (or Madam). With time, they fall out of favor with their followers and then, for a time, peace prevails,

UNTIL, that is, another fanatic gains the attention of the weak minded. My belief is that some one among the Southern Baptist's radical sects will establish an American Wahhabism here. THAT, sir, is what you (and all of us) should be concerned about....not the Wahhabi's in the Near East.

The 3,000 dead have nothing

The 3,000 dead have nothing to do with the muslims. The celebratory mosque has nothing to do with the muslims. The supporters of this "in your face" proposal have nothing to do with the muslims. The 100 mosques in NYC, not at ground zero and not objected to, have nothing to do with the muslims.

There is no Ground Zero

There is no Ground Zero mosque stop believing lies....There is a strip club one block closer to Ground Zero than where the mosque is planned, yet I don't see anyone protesting that establishment...Also, video leaked out of a black construction worker at Ground Zero walking to work with another co-worker who was white. They walked through the "No mosque" crowd and they immediately confronted him and started hurrling insults at him about being muslim, the guy got mad and told them he wasn't muslim but it was too late, the rabid fever of assumptions had set in and the crowd was burning up with hate; one fat guy even got up in the poor guys face trying to challenge him...Yeah, these folks aren't racist (roll eyes)....

I wonder why the Greek

I wonder why the Greek community has not been allowed to rebuild their church destroyed on 9/11 and yet people in the Augusta area are upset that families of those killed in the attack would like the poor Muslims to build elsewhere?

This letter writer is so

This letter writer is so mis-INFORMED, it's evident he's BRAIN WASHED by the conservative noise machine. It shouldn't be a SHOCK to anyone that the FEARMONGERS of the conservative party like, Beck, Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Hannity, and the 1 Million dollar donation to the RGA FALSE news have their masses believing the cultural center is going to be right slap on TOP of ground zero. I can understand why so many on the right are entranced with this BIG OL LIE.

The same people who are
Unpublished

The same people who are against the Cultural Center insist that the Confederate Flag does not represent hate. Where are the Confederate-lovin' southerners sense of respect? Where are their sensitivity? Knowing all the people of color who was lynched, murdered, and raped under that flag and the shameful reasoning to have it displayed on government property. And so, the Cultural Center will be built to symbolize that Americans are people governed by constitutional principles and not by hate and fear. Build the Muslin Center!

Americans are finally

Americans are finally realizing that the mosque is nothng more than a monument to their conquest by flying the planes into the world trade center.....and oh, by the way, it was muslims who hijacked the planes, and not strippers. It is time to draw a line in the sand. Let the mosque be built, but not at this location. Wake up America, the tenets of Islam in reference to non-believers are to convert you, enslave you or kill you. Do not let this monument to their conquest be built near ground zero.

You have the Constitutional

You have the Constitutional right to pour yourself a tall, cool glass of gasoline and gulp it down with gusto. Is it wise to exercise that "right?" I think not. But at $2.59/gallon, I'd be willing to "set 'em up" for any left-wing mosque at Ground Zero supporter who wants to exercise that "right."

Would one of the Muslim supporters tell me why they should have more rights than Christians?

Retired Army: The mosque
Unpublished

Retired Army: The mosque opposition is NOT a Republican issue. It's an American issue that has found wings in all walks of life, with the exception of bleeding heart liberals who support most every repulsive initiative in this country.

One good thing might come from the mosque if it's ever built. We wouldn't have to worry about muslim laden airplanes dropping out of the sky nearby......

1. The Muslim sect in

1. The Muslim sect in question is pacifist. 2. All Muslims did not attack us on 9/11 and all Muslims do not support terrorism. Lumping all Muslims into this one group is the very definition of bigotry. 3. Muslim law accepts Christians as "people of the book" and does not call for murdering and enslaving Christians. 4. Christians have always a right to pray in school (at times when they aren't supposed to be studying) but it is illegal for schools to force children to say prayers. As with all prejudice, this opposition to the mosque is based on those evil twins, ignorance and hatred.

Just because Muslims have the
Unpublished

Just because Muslims have the right, doesn't make it right. This case reminds me of the Nazis wanting to march in Skokie, IL, a largely Jewish suburb of Chicago, a few years ago. Yeah, they had the right, but that didn't make it right. But this is all a moot point. The Muslims WILL build that mosque and publicly claim it represents freedom of religion in America. Privately and amongst other Muslims, they will scoff at this freedom and look upon the mosque as a victory over the "great Satan," and a fond remembrance of the slaughter of thousands of innocents that people of their faith committed on 9/11.

Since the liberals know so much about hate/hatred and love to use the word, it makes one wonder why the obsession. Trust me in this, prayer will help. Ask the Lord to help you to erase it from your mind and use the word tolerance instead. You will feel much better. Bitterness...bad for you.

The muslims think they are

The muslims think they are the elite and are superior to us all. I don't know why those who don't believe in religion will defend religion as long as it doesn't happen to be Americans. (I don't think I want to know the answer to that.)

You seem to think only conservatives object to this. Have you seen John Barrow's opinion of this? How about liberal members of congress like Harry Reid? Your hatred of conservatives is showing.
