Heroes abound in our community, too

  • Follow Letters

Your story about Dr. Chris White and Gen. David Petraeus ("MCG professor knows what Petraeus is made of," July 1) has compelled me to write this letter. Dr. White is one of many inspiring doctors whom I have the privilege to work with every day.

Augusta has a gold mine in the Children's Medical Center, a place where I have the joy and privilege to work. I have the opportunity every day to see heroes -- though maybe not four-star generals like David Petraeus -- who do their best every day to keep our children safe and healthy.

I don't have enough room to name all the heroes or their heroic effects I have witnessed since we opened our hospital, but let me assure you, Augusta: Your children are lucky to live in this town. I leave work every day amazed at the fact that I work with heroes.

Gen. Petraeus will to go Afghanistan to protect our country from harm. The heroic physicians I work with will go to battle to keep your children healthy and safe.

Augusta also has a gold mine

Augusta also has a gold mine in alternative care where some of the best have left the regular medical field and now do NAET and other advanced approaches.

I specialize in home repair

I specialize in home repair and most of my customers are retirees. My crew does for these people what they no longer can, and still my customers (many of them confirmed liberals) still take time to aid those less fortunate than they by providing opportunities, not by enabling.

We have many "heroes" in Augusta, of all ages and backgrounds.
I hate we have to deal with the culture of irresponsibility and disrespect created by the mishandled federal subsidy programs.

There are some great hospital

There are some great hospital workers but with their work load every friend you have in the hospital needs an advocate there to be sure that your friend is getting the right meds and care that is timely. Through being there for three weeks I was able to catch things like drugs my wife was allergic to and meet needs that a staff can not get done. Being left alone in a hospital creates a risk but it can't be avoided at times. I know a young man that recently died due to a reaction to a anti-biotic he was given. Those are some of the dangers that someone being with the patient can avoid. Sometimes those heros need some help as they can't be two places at once. A great help would be to muscle test each med for a patient. It would take about two seconds per med and there would be no negative reactions. Thank you to all the heros in the medical and alternative care field.
