AP's bias running, ruining our nation

  • Follow Letters

Journalism is not asking for the destruction of democracy. It's getting down on its knees and begging for it.

One way this occurs is through the widespread use of stories by the Associated Press, which bills itself as a news organization, but is actually very liberal, as seen in its stories. Thus, we get people such as President Obama and Bill Clinton -- both Democrats who fits the AP liberal mold -- and slanted stories taken as gospel by the 1,400 daily newspapers that get AP, with a no-questions-asked attitude.

With widespread political propaganda like that, what is the future of democracy? Add ABC, NBC, and CBS news programs to the mix (with a combined audience of 40 million), and with virtually no local stations complaining about the liberal propaganda, and you have 80 percent of the national media that is liberal (according to Fox News).

While AP is in a position to throw national elections, they also get in on statewide elections, which, nationwide, allows them to affect outcomes in congressional races, and to sway which party rules in Washington.

On June 28, a Chronicle -run AP story on four Republicans running for Georgia governor noted that all talked of the new Arizona immigration law, which "requires that police investigating a crime or incident to ask people about their immigration status ... ."

AP disagreed with the Republican candidates -- as if AP was running for governor -- by saying the law "has been widely decried by civil liberties and immigrant rights activists, and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said the federal government planned to sue over the issue." Fellow Democrat candidates are presented as flawless.

By allowing AP to cover state politics, newspapers are letting this kind of bias happen. They should join together and form a national news service to curtail this force that reaches 200 million people, and is running and ruining the country.

AP is supposed to stand for Associated Press, but the title, "Another Pravda" (the old Pravda Communist mouthpiece, not the new de-fanged Pravda) is more properly descritpive.

Mr. Hunter, you state that

Mr. Hunter, you state that “On June 28, a Chronicle -run AP story on four Republicans running for Georgia governor noted that all talked of the new Arizona immigration law, which "requires that police investigating a crime or incident to ask people about their immigration status ... ."” and then that the “AP disagreed with the Republican candidates -- as if AP was running for governor -- by saying the law "has been widely decried by civil liberties and immigrant rights activists, and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said the federal government planned to sue over the issue." Fellow Democrat candidates are presented as flawless.” This is rather interesting to me. You see, this was a news story. And everything you speak of is fact (political opinions aside). The Georgia gubernatorial candidates did really talk about the immigration law in Arizona and the democrats really are pressing into the civil liberty violations (hence the forthcoming federal lawsuit against Arizona). So I really do not see your point. The AP was not disagreeing with the Republican candidates when they were merely stating facts, nor were they agreeing with Clinton when they were merely stating facts. Now perhaps I missed the greater context of these two stories (in which case shame on you for failing to provide proof to support your claim). But I fail to see the bias that you are attempting to present in your LTE. That is not to say that bias does not exist in the media, but you did drop the ball with your strawman-like attempt at proving it.

Anyone who doesn't believe the National media in this country is not anchor step with liberals is obviously "dumber'n a bag of hammers" quoting George Clooney. I have no clue as to why media and hollywood types tend to be so overwelmingly liberal, and I really don't care much. I don't listen when Sean Penn, Danny Glover or Bruce Springsteen speaks his mind, nor do I bother subjecting myself to televised mainstream media. Sometimes I wonder how much foreign ownership of media conglomerates exists.

IMRITGHTYOURWRONG: Funny the

IMRITGHTYOURWRONG: Funny the government isn't suing over civil rights it is suing over Federal Supremacy! The AP presented the ACLU, Clinton etc as the standard rather than the Arizona law. It has been brought out that if the government is worried about Federal Supremacy they would be suing about sanctuary cities and states as well since they are refusing to inforce federal law and declaring the Federal immigration laws void in thier cities etc! Yet no report on this by AP. The letter writer is absolutely correct!

IMRIGHTYOUREWRONG, your 3:17 makes it pretty clear that slanted phrasing used by the AP convinces you to their perspective.
Those of us that stay informed of the workings of the left find the AP to be painfully obvious.
I hope you're very young so you can grow as you gain wisdom.

good points carcraft***in fact the question was posed to that idiot robert gibbs and he could not answer the question of why sanctuary cities were not being sued also..since the suit doesnt state racial profiling as the reason but infringement of federal law.. the letter writer is right the media has greatly influenced the electroate in many cases and to the liberal way of thinking..if bush was prez do you think the media was play soft ball on all those issues the obama administration is screwing up on now..ie..gulf cleanup, economy, unemployment, our weaken stature in foreign affairs, buying out of private business with govt funds potential spying on our own citizens, suing of our own states while allowing foreign leaders to bash our fellow law abiding citizens from the rose garden and the capital. the list goes on but the media ignores the issues to promote obama, the media is suppose to be the citizens watch dog regardless who is in office..without a watchful media we are losing our freedoms and rights to a corrupt govt...

NEWS being presented as
Unpublished

NEWS being presented as biased is here to stay. The results of that biased, according to the article, is that an liberal agenda is being enacted. Wrong! There are NO liberals yapping on all the radio air waves all day and all night saying exactly what this writer is trying to say. The so-called "non-minority media" operates with a deep hidden prejudice and what the article is talking about ain't it. For example, minority citizens in red states where their voting is actually a waste of time and the redistricting schemes will be used to keep them silent. Are AP reporters researching the matter? Are state capitols being questioned? No. It's a joke, but a lame story that's heard day in and day out becomes true in some people's mind. The article is an example of that effort.

These are some of the most foul conservatives on the airways today: Savage, Bruce, Malkin, Erickson, Briebart, Levin, Beck, Hannity, Geller, Quinn, Nugent, Voight, Norris, Morrison, Gingrich and Ingraham. I'm glad they are on CABLE and some RADIO stations and NOT mainstream, can you imagine if they were how many more people they would draw in from the hate and bitterness they spew? God forbid. LET THEM STAY ON CABLE.

I don't see the point of his

I don't see the point of his letter. On the immigration issue, AP presented both sides of the story. Sorry, Mr. Hunter, but those are the facts, not media bias. I find it interesting that you quote Fox News as a source of proof for media bias. If you had wanted your story to have any credibility at all, you should have stayed as far away from Fox News as possible. I watched a Fox News story on Sharron Angle, the Republican Senate candidate from Nevada. There was NO mention of her completely changing her website to disavow her previously held positions (i.e. getting rid of Social Security, Medicare, the EPA, using Nevada as a nuclear waste dumping site, etc.). Don't you think those facts are something her potential constituents need to know? Yet Fox News completely ignored these facts. Do you see any media bias here?

Presidential Candidate John

Presidential Candidate John McCain offered the position of spokesman for his campaign to the Associated Press' Washington Bureau Chief, Ron Fournier. The AP is part of the American establishment and a mainstay of corporate media which is anything but liberal.

There is no "liberal" mainstream media in United States including the establishment NY Times. It is all corporate owned media that tows the establishment line.

The same is true of U.S. politicians including those in the current administration (Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, etc.). Obama is beholden to the status quo interests of Wall Street banks and other establishment entities including the military-industrial complex which drives the war based U.S. economy. Don't expect the AP or any other corporate media to rock the boat. That is why it took an obscure journalist writing for The Rolling Stone to call loose cannon Gen. Stanley McChrystal to task. The mainstream media has to tow the corporate establishment line to curry favor and maintain access to sources. Just ask Lara Logan.

I worked as a reporter in the early 1960's before the bias (liberal) crept in, and today do not recognize what has become of the press. I quit journalism in disgust after my tour of duty in Vietnam due to the complete disconnect between what I had seen in the papers and on TV in the US and the reality on the ground.
The liberal bias is strong, real, insidious and a menace to our country.

Conservatives always attempt

Conservatives always attempt to spin the media to make themselves victims when they manipulate the media more than anyone. I watched Rudy Gulliani on Fixed News Channel and he said "There will never be a terrorist act on American soil as long as we have a Conservative President". Did he forget 9/11 happened while he was Mayor and George Bush was President? I don't think he did. The issue for him was to manufacture another Conservative lie to a media source that fully cooperates with their agenda to decieve all of us.

Rush Limbaugh told a radio

Rush Limbaugh told a radio audience of nearly 20 million people that Obama is President because gullible blacks were paid to vote for him. Later the Prophet Rush went on a on air tirade to blast blacks for robbing the wealth of white Americans. Although I expect such absurdity from the Prophet, it does amaze me that a radio station would knowingly accept his message of hate. Then it scares me that 20 million people would tune in and pretend the racist hatred of minorities are a thing of the past. The prophet fuels racial distrust between black & white Americans better than anyone, but gets paid millions to spin the distrust helpless minorities that never listen to his program. The number of people that believe such an agenda is frightening.

While I don't listen to Rush and Glen Beck it goes without saying they have a tremendous number of viewers/listeners. Fox News ratings consistently out pull by wide margins all the other 24 hour news channels. Why? Only a few pitiful foaming at the mouth souls listen to the Olberman vitrol, few for Madoff.
CParker, I guess Glenn Beck can say what he wants to about the president (lower caps), this is America. Given a more forgiving forum than this sterilized-sanitized place I'b be burnin' your ears on the "great Obi-wan-Obama" too. So, thank Sean for keeping my muzzel on.

Michael Steele heads the

Michael Steele heads the Republican National Headquarters. When first appointed, he felt the racial overtone in the GOP's agenda was misguided. When the Prophet Rush Limbaugh, Hannity, and Glen Beck accused him of not being Conservative enough for their agenda they asked that he be replaced. Now the racial tone in his message has changed and he is clearly on board even though he is African American. In short, the Conservative media has the ability to persuade just like a liberal media does.

The conservatives have

The conservatives have resisted almost every bill because most of them have been directly out of the Communist Manifesto. Take money from the successful and give to the non-productive. Encourage the non-productive to remain non-productive and spawn more non-productives. Of course the non-productive do not have the foresight to see what happens when the successful people reach the point where it is no longer beneficial to be productive. At some point, not far away, they take their money off of the table and quit paying taxes. Then watcha gonna do commies?

Carcraft... I was making the point that there are Conservative media outlets that are bias. But you are right in the sense I do feel most of these Conservative outlets are very racist and I think you know it. Just because there are black Conservatives doesn't mean racism doesn't exist. I know black people that refuse to live in the black community because they have poor opinions of black people despite being black themselves. Do you think JC Watts, Colin Powell, or Condi Rice would live in south Augusta? What does that say about them? What would make 20 million people tune in to listen to a man that accuses blacks of robbing white Americans and never gets called to task for it? I'll help you.... There is an appreciate for a racist perspective in our society. Rush himself admitted he says these crazy things for ratings. I am not accusing all Republicans of being racist just like I am not accepting all Democrats to be saints. The bible tells us the day would come that the people would be easily led away by the grand illusions of lies. I feel that day is upon us because even prominent churches have become politically polarized and forgotten their obligation to Godliness in the process.

dichotomy... Your take is absurd. Conservatives stood in line to tell the American people that Obama's healthcare proposal had death panels because they opposed it. He courted them only to have Senator Grassley of Iowa stand up on national television and say Obama did want to kill folks grandmothers. You seem to be a spin master. Help me and others understand how Guilliani could say no terrorist acts would be committed on American soil if we had a Conservative President?
