South Carolina wrong on immigration

South Carolina should not be proud of taking a stand with Arizona in the oppression of illegal immigrants.

Immigration laws are based on intolerance. Just like illegal drugs exist because there is a misguided law and a demand, so do illegal immigrants. Likewise, just as the so-called war on drugs has failed, so will enacting more laws to harass and oppress illegal immigrants.

Illegal immigration is a supply-and-demand issue, governed by the laws of supply and demand. Passing useless, senseless, racially motivated laws is foolish. The only thing Arizona's immigration law does is pacify an intolerant, emotionally insecure, influential segment of its population while scoring brownie points for its governor.

South Carolina would do well to break the cycle of hypocrisy and intolerance by not following Arizona's wrongheaded example of protecting its citizens.
