Our nation is slipping toward socialism

  • Follow Letters

Socialism -- an economic and political system advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods and services. Marxist Socialism goes to eliminate private property and means of production owned and controlled by the state, plus government control of work and pay. This results in a communist state and dictatorship.

The effect on people's lives under government control and regulation after nearly 50 years of Soviet domination over Eastern European countries has been depressing. It has been 20 years now that formerly communist East Germans had to learn self-motivation and educational skills to move up to West German standards. There is still a gap.

America is now drifting toward socialism, government control and the entitlement society. All this has a numbing effect on the uneducated masses to depend on government solutions, not personal responsibility. This is not to say that higher education is the secret to personal success -- it is not.

Are we still America, the land of the free?

S.G. von Schweinitz

According to the article, Socialism is bad. But look at what happened to the Native Americans: They were removed by a government. They were allotted pieces of land of which that same government owned. Socialism? Naw. That's Manifest Destiny. Socialism CAN'T CAN'T happen in America! To say it says more about the individuals saying it than anything else. It's a juvenile argument among poorly learned individuals who can't correctly comprehend the US Constitution and its history.

“Rather than socialism, why don't we work with a modified democracy?”
The USA is not a democracy we are a republic. We should be ruled be laws not men.
Socialism has failed everywhere it is tried, just look at Greece. Sooner or later the government runs out off someone else’s money to spread around.

America is not "drifting" to socialism, it is being pushed by the muslim community organizer in the oval office with all of his might. Begin the purge of these traitors in Nov. 2010, and finish the flushing in Nov. 2012. Following that, we will be able to throw out the health deform legislation before it takes effect.

After the lesson of

After the lesson of irresponsibility has been taught to our children for several generations, we're now ready for the nanny government to assume all responsibility in our lives.

"In the end they will lay their freedom at our feet and say to us, 'Make us your slaves, but feed us.'" [Dosteovsky's 'Grand Inquisitor']

obama, pelosi and reid keep giving us the opportunity to be taken care of, whether we want it or not.

This November you'll be able to choose who you want to take care of you ... possibly for the last time.

"This is not to say that higher education is the secret to personal success -- it is not." Would someone explain that sentence to me? Either I need a higher education or the letter writer does. At any rate, this is just more of the "sky is falling" hysteria from the right, "all sound and fury, signifying nothing." In actuality, nothing much has changed from 10 years ago.

grouse, I think what the writer is trying to convay is that even though you have a higher education level that does not translate to a better lifestyle. You have to have personal responsibility and a good work ethic to get to that higher lifestyle. With all the entitlements that work ethic is going by the wayside and people without that ethic will have their hand out to the government. What an awful way to live knowing that you were dependent on someone else's labor and money.

Timely headline in the USA

Timely headline in the USA Today: "Private pay shrinks to historic lows". As the article points out, the current trend is unsustainable. But, I guess Face would say it just more hysteria. Just dismiss it all.

I think anybody that works and looks at the percentage of tax money spent on welfare and entitlement projects would recognize that that is socialistic. That is not hysteria, it is concern for our currant and future way of life. It seems like responsibility to me.

Obama is asking congress to

Obama is asking congress to approve a line item veto. When Bush asked for it & Obama was a senator, he opposed it. This is the most arrogant, hypocritical man in the entire WORLD. Can you imagine the further damage he can do to this country if he has that kind of power?

Fun fact. 63% of all Americans now want the healthcare bill repealed. Once the sheeple realized that the coverage doesn't start immediately, isn't free and they can be fined if they don't have it, then they wake up.

No FaceTheMusic. The

No FaceTheMusic. The "hysteria" is in Europe right now where those "isms" have run their course and have proven that they don't work, especially socialism. We are next, in the near future, and then you will see the "hysteria". As the market continues to crash the entitlement crowd will become violent when the "rich" people take all of their money off of the table and the "checks" quit coming or get greatly reduced. Obamas policies are failing miserably and the truths about the costs and repercussions of Obamacare are starting to be reported. We are in big trouble and that is not a right wing rant. Take a look at the mood in the market and watch it crash as the facts and figures start firming up. There is little or no good news out there and what little there is gets totally overwhelmed by the long term debt Obama and the Democrats have heaped upon us. Investors are now realizing that there is no money to be made in the market, even in the long term. The losses each day more than wipe out any interest and dividends paid. As the taxes begin to go up and the cost of Obamacare kicks in things can only get worse. All you socialist Democrats and entitlement crowd keep cheering each other on. You have cut our throats but just remember, as the body bleeds out even the bowels die. There is some trickle down economics for the socialist entitlement crowd.

Here's a couple more fun

Here's a couple more fun facts.

Federal spending this year is 25% of the US GDP
Add in state and local spending & total govt spending is 50% of GDP.

In an article I read, Newt Gingrich gives us the cold, hard facts. "No economy can thrive when nearly half of all economic output is directed by politicians rather than entrepreneurs and small businesses."

When the government controls 50% of our entire GDP, my friends, we have entered the bowels of socialism.

So, here we have a man, the

So, here we have a man, the POTUS, that has not had a news conference in well over a year, that says the AZ immigration law is "misguided", and makes jokes about it but refuses to even give the governor of AZ even the courtesy of a reply to her many requests for help, that has no idea how to stop the oil spill in the gulf and refuses to even go look at the mess or investigate possible government responsibility, that continues to have an almost 10% unemployment rate with no solutions in sight, that applauds a foreign leader when he trashes our country, that apologizes to everyone in the world for our country's past, that insults Netanyahu, leader of our most important ally in the mid-east but holds a party for the leader of Pakistan and Mexico, that has no foreign policy whatsoever and North & South Korea on the brink of war, that refuses to answer questions about the mounting outrage over the cabinet position offered to Sestak to drop out of the PA senatorial race, and a stock market that is on the verge of collapse, and what does our great leader decide to do do? Yep...time for a vacation!! On Monday, Obama will make remarks at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, south of Chicago - missing the usual tradition of presidents speaking at Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Day. Guess laying the wreath, honoring our nation's heroic men and women that gave their lives in defense of our country, as almost every president in our lifetime has done, would interfere with his plans to go back home and relax a little?

Drudge Report Headline

Drudge Report Headline

"OBAMA REDISTRIBUTION VICTORY: PRIVATE PAY PLUMMETS, GOVT HANDOUTS SOAR"

This headline news is from a USA Today article. You know things are headed in the wrong direction when even they jump in.

In the article it says that "A record-low 41.9% of the nation's personal income came from private wages and salaries in the first quarter (of 2010)".

Heaven help us.

Dah! You think we’re moving

Dah! You think we’re moving into socialism? With this dictator at the helm we are in Socialism Bubba. Is the will of the people being done; NO. Does it make a difference that the majority of Americans want laws like the AZ immigration law; NO. Do they want his Health Care Bill; NO. Because this president and his band of idiots like Janet Napolitano, Attorney General Eric H. Holder, Jr. and Rahm I. Emanuel haven’t even read the AZ bill, all 10 pages of it and by their attitude could care less. We need to send our elected officials a message, YOUR GONE come November. What is going on right under our noses is unforgiveable and inexcusable. I’m sick of this moron/wimp president apologizing to the World for us and telling us what we need. Let’s get voting and then get rid of him and his cronies in 2012 before we are totally disgraced as a Nation and as Americans. Restore democracy and repeal his idiotic Obama Care bill.

SG, we aren't slipping, we rolling down-hill at an ever increasing speed; thanks to our current 'leader' of this once great (and soon to be again) nation. Socialism has never worked; history proofs that, and it won't work here. We are a REPUBLIC, not a democracy; but BHO is trying to put us there.

November 10 and 12... Can't wait. Hope we can survive until then.
