On May 20, Mexican President Felipe Calderon proclaimed, "I strongly disagree with the recently adopted (illegal immigration) law in Arizona. It's a law that ... ignores reality." Attorney General Eric Holder and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano concur. And by the way, they admit to not reading the 10-page law -- but this is the Obama administration, so not reading things but running mouths is required.
Calderon pontificated that his government "does not favor the breaking of the rules," and that he respects the right of any country to "enact and enforce its own laws." He followed that with: "But what we need today is to fix a broken and inefficient system. We favor the establishment of laws that work and work well for all."
Who does this guy think he is, and what is this "we" stuff? I almost forgot, he was in America, addressing a joint session of Congress while Democrats and members of Obama's Politburo watched and cheered in awe. Just when you think this president and Congress cannot sink any lower or be more anti-American, they find a way to demonstrate their dedication to all things contrary to a free republic and to the Constitution.
Obama and his Mexican counterpart condemned a state for passing a law -- then, in yet another cavalcade of ignorant piousness, lectured states on what laws they should pass (separation of powers -- look it up). This is beyond pathetic! And Mr. Calderon: Thanks, but we really don't need your "help."
Before you post comments or submit a letter that reads, "Well, Bush ..." answer this: What world leader would welcome a foreign dignitary to his/her country, then tag-team a law enacted by a state, then give him/her carte blanche of that nation's Congress to chide further?
Just Obama, folks.
I thought one of the most interesting things Calderon said was about the drug cartels on the Mexican border. It seems they are getting about 90 percent of their guns from the U.S. And then they're using those guns to come back across the border to cause trouble. So the U.S. is contributing to part of its own problems. Maybe we'll learn one day.
FaceTheMusic is absolutely correct: If the Federal Government under the direction of President Obama, would follow the Law and secure our borders, we would not be having most of the problems associated with illegal immigration including providing arms to Mexican drug cartels, who come back over the borders and kill our citizens and forcing Arizona to pass the same Law to do the same thing Obama ought to be doing in the first place.
President Obama is pathetic!
Face the music-It would appear that many of the guns and arms found to be used by drug trafficers in Mexico are legally exported from the US and sold by corrupt Mexican military to the criminals! narcosphere.narconews.com/.../legal-us-arms-exports-may-be-source-narco-syndicates-rising-firepower - It is interesting that when I read stories by the US "mainstream media" there is a lot of innuendo but will not give factual data. It appears the government is cranking up another war on the ever dangerous "assault" weapon. Not because it has more "firepower" but because it looks dangerous. A 30-06 semi auto is much more dangerous, ask the Germans who survived world war I and II!
PS you will not find garnade launchers, garnades or fully automatic weapons at sporting goods, arms stores or gun shows (occasional automatic weapon but you need a federal license to buy ). This is a bunch more lame stream media hype.
Compared to the obamassiah, Carter looks like a genius. The two most incompetent presidents, BY FAR, in modern history and one looks 100 time more competent than obama. What a horrible mistake we made with this diversity experiment.
TOYOTA!!!
Gimme a call if you want, cliff. Nothing pressing.
Calderon needs to stay in Mexico and fix his glass house. I wish he would take those clowns who kept standing during his speech with him.
Ending the war on drugs wouldn't make any money, so that's not an option. I mean, what would all the SWAT teams do all day?
That’s BS grouse, they will just go on welfare. Blacks are not the only ones that know how to work the system.
i believe all wer have to do is enforce ALL immigration laws and we will be on the road to recovery in several areas.. no hiring illegals-impose a heavy fine..this will free up jobs for our teenagers and unskilled workers. it will also free up construction jobs because many illegals are hired there. these are good jobs..in stall a guest worker program and enforce it strictly.. all able US citizens must work at these jobs or no welfare or supplemental help from the govt..we have to reduce the number who are not pulling the wagon..build a wall and maintain a strict enforcement of the border..period...all laws must be repealed for govt services for illegals except in dire emergencies..no more freebees for the illegals..then after there is no work, govt services and a secured borders send all of the illegals home includeing those in prison..a sovereign country cannot have elected officials who enforce the laws of their own choice. elected officials have sworn to uphold ALL the laws of the land and the constitution. ..we have in place A CONSTITUTIONAL REMENDY for laws that are not wanted its called the legislative process. if officials cannot honor the solemn vows of office they must be impeached **period no exceptions..law is law...
Is it possible that any person who has lived in this country the last 40 years doesn't realize that when Reagan did amnesty for illegals, that didn't just say that those here then were legal, it also said "Come on in!"
That was the message that was sent by Ronald Reagan. And at that time we had not experienced anything like the wave of illegals we see today.
Over the years as they came streaming in did you read a single story anywhere about a business getting in trouble for employing illegals? Heck no!
Any fool with half a brain knows that it's a lot harder to build a two thousand mile Berlin Wall on our border than it is to simply throw a rich man in jail for purposely hiring illegals.
And I'll tell you folks one thing, there is not a one of us who doesn't know of a rich industrialist who is knowingly employing illegals. Look at every chicken and beef processing plant in the USA!!!!! And the restaurants of every fancy country club including Augusta National, I Bet!!!
Get right with God and stop worshipping the Armageddon Republicans.
Jesus and Moses and Muhammed all are in Heaven looking down on us and shaking their heads, saying 'Why can't our people love each other?"
Excellent Letter! This is classic. "What world leader would welcome a foreign dignitary to his/her country, then tag-team a law enacted by a state, then give him/her carte blanche of that nation's Congress to chide further? Just Obama, folks."
The same world leader who hasn't even bothered to speak to the Governor of Arizona nor given her the same forum in front of Congress to explain the gravity of her situation.
johnston.cliff is absolutely correct. "What a horrible mistake we made".
Remember in the early 1990's Tyson Chicken in Arkansas was found to be hiring illegals. The Tysons were close friends with the Clintons and nothing was ever done?
dani 'Chip, Please explain why Hispanics votes for Democrats.'
I guess they're smarter than most white southerners...?
And sorry for the repeat post, but I haven't gotten a response to this fact..."when Reagan did amnesty for illegals, that didn't just say that those here then were legal, it also said "Come on in!"
and this fact...'Any fool with half a brain knows that it's a lot harder to build a two thousand mile Berlin Wall on our border than it is to simply throw a rich man in jail for purposely hiring illegals.'
I guess it not enough that the president is hell bent of dividing our country. Now, he brings in Foreign dignitaries to assist.
The Bush blaming for the last year & a half has been ridiculous but now we are blaming Reagan? How many years do we need to go back? Maybe Abraham Lincoln is somehow responsible for the millions of illegal hispanics in our nation sucking up taxpayer funds and taking jobs from American citizens who desparately need them.
Truth is, it is an issue NOW. An issue that is being ignored by this administration.
Stop looking back, look forward and SOLVE the &%*! problem.
Chillen
I know it's hard for conservatives to deal with hard questions that your leadership ignore.
But Reagan is considered the conservative and Republican messiah and since he is in fact the most egregious violator of illegal immigrant control, yes you do have to deal with that question.
I'm saying that through universal amnesty he sent the mssg THE DOOR IS OPEN...so since he sent that mssg. morally, we have to deal with this in a more fair way than to just round them up.
And again 'Any fool with half a brain knows that it's a lot harder to build a two thousand mile Berlin Wall on our border than it is to simply throw a rich man in jail for purposely hiring illegals.'
chipshirley. I was a young and not involved in politics at all when Reagan was president so I can't answer your question, that's why I didn't try. What I do know is that this problem has been ignored by ALL for years
I also know what I said. it is a problem now. It must be dealt with. There is no getting around it.
It is becoming way more of a crisis now because our government is in serious fiscal crisis (partly due to entitlements that the illegals eagerly lap up), unemployment is 10% (illegals are taking our jobs), and folks are fed up with the crime associated with illegal aliens.
Catering to the Mexican president and allowing him to address Congress and bash our own elected officials is not the right step. It is a slap in the face.
I'm not going to repost it here, but on another article today I posed a 6 or 7 step program to help fix this. At the top of my list was going after employers. But you can't just stop there. Gotta kill the entitlements for illegals, anchor baby program, many things.
Chips, Reagan is dead! Every president since I've been alive, has effectively ignored the illegal alien problems including the current Lib messiah. It's been business as usual, while residents of border states in the West and Southwest are forced to walk around with sidearms for protection against the criminal element among those sneaking across the border.
If you eat processed food, lettuce, onions, and hundreds of other produce items, you're consuming food picked by illegals. Those "rich" Americans who hire those illegal workers, believe it or not, are saving you money. If America throws those "rich" men in jail, or stems the flow of illegals, prepare to grow your own produce.
Also, since you're so hot on this topic, why aren't you offering a solution? Instead, all you do is complain about "rich" people.
Actually, separation of powers refers to the three branches of government. Federalism refers to government divided into national, state, and local governments. Anyway, I'm all for the law. If the national govt won't enforce their own laws, why would they stop the states?
If anyone is hiring illegals they should be prosecuted. It is at a minimum aiding & abetting the commission of a crime & tax evasion. Why aren't we doing that?
I tell you what I really think is that rich people (of what ever party) are really pushing the idea that we need to build a wall and round them up.
You know why they like that idea...? I'll tell you why...
Because they actually employee illegals and make money off of them and so they want us to try to do giant drastic stuff that we can't hope to actually accomplish...
Proof....What they don't EVER SAY is "Put employers of Illegal Immigrants IN JAIL!
They don't say that because it would work! The illegals would deport themselves.
Notice all the pol's who talk up 'building a wall' (a 2k mile Berlin Wall) never bring up the idea of jailing the employers which is the easiest way to deal with the issue.
And as for the violence on the border...did you ever notice that illegals in our community aren't any more violent than regtular citizens. The violence on the border is all related to the illegal drug trade and it's all turf battles from the drug cartels. They kill 1000 Mexicans for every American who gets caught in the crossfire. And all that chaos opens the door for the kidnappings. The drug issue is a whole different ball of wax.
