Don't sue over new health-care plan

  • Follow Letters

More lawsuits! Georgia now has joined 19 other states in lawsuits challenging the new federal health-care plan. But I have a lot of questions.

How many Medicare or Medicaid beneficiaries do we have in Georgia? How many insureds who are fine with the medical insurance they have, or people who bought cheaper medical insurance across state lines? How many retired pensioners already have medical insurance? How many retired veterans have medical insurance that won't be affected? How many people won't have medical insurance in 2014?

If I'm correct, if you're not insured under the new government health care, you will pay a fine of less than $100 -- but you will still see a doctor if you get sick, and at that time you can get the insurance you need. President Bush created the Part D prescription plan, and you had to pay a fine if you did not enroll in Part D when you first became eligible for Medicare parts A and B.

There also was a lawsuit recently against the Obama administration to implement Georgia's system of checking citizenship of newly registering voters. The filing of that lawsuit should remind Gov. Sonny Perdue of the letter he wrote to the Justice Department asking for -- and getting -- pre-clearance of the voter ID law in 2005.

Don't file litigation just because you are the opposing party. No reform is going to make everyone happy.

Annie Thompson, I suspect you

Annie Thompson, I suspect you listen exclusively to network news broadcasts. You might like to broaden you education a little, unless you're comfortable with your eyes closed. You are right about one of your convoluted comments though. You'll never please all of the people all of the time. You see, one size doesn't fit all. Maybe "...there's the rub" with obamacare.

Annie-This bill allows

Annie-This bill allows federal authority to over reach by a far stretch! The constitution does not allow the Federal government to regulate insurance-that is a state power per the 19th amendment! The constitution does not allow the government to regulate (per one of the law suits) inactivity of an individual. Can the federal government force you to read a book? Can the federal government force you to listen to a political speach? If the answer is no, then why is the waters edge of federal power forcing you to buy health care? This bill is going to cost states incredible amounts of money and the states (if you haven't noticed) are broke. Where does this money come from? If the federal government is usurping and incroaching on state and individual rights that is OK Ms Thompson? Just let it pass? Obama, Pelosi and Reid have demonstrated thier contempt for you by forcing this bill down our throats, will I think we should do every thing we can to shove it up thier collective donkeys!

I'd not only sue the

I'd not only sue the Democrats responsible for the health care bill, I'd bring criminal charges against them for fraud, too. The Congressional Budget Office NOW says the bill will costs billions (that we don't have). The Democrats are like a wino trying to figure out how to get money from a dirty, stained checkbook he found stuck in the sofa. Isn't there at least one of them somewhere who can do math and pay the bills on time? Throw them all in the drunk tank.

Annie, you act like a voter id law is a bad thing. I say if you're going to vote, you won't mind getting a proper id. You need it for something as simple as cashing a check, so why not?

carcraft, the constitution

carcraft, the constitution didn't allow women to vote, blacks to be free, ect...and we know how that all turned out. Stop hiding behind a couple of sheets of paper that was written when cotton was the #1 crop. If you have an opinion that is aligned with a contemporary issue then speak if. If you don't have one, then develop one. No one is buyting this "constitution states"...and you are selling yourself short by using the defense.

The writer is absolutely

The writer is absolutely correct. These lawsuits are a big waste of time and money; they are being brought just to get the wing-nuts in a lather. Congress has the authority to regulate commerce, and there is nothing more commercial than the insurance industry. These lawsuits are much wind and fury, signifying nothing.

Two more senators who voted

Two more senators who voted for the PPACA law will most probably be put out to pasture today or at a minimum get the living daylights scared out of them.

kapa18. Like it or not the

kapa18. Like it or not the constitution is our governing document. The fundamental prinicipals still apply today. Human nature has NOT changed - obviously. Our founding fathers were geniuses.

If you don't like it here, please go to Canada or Europe. They'll welcome folks with your opinions with open arms.

Annie, your "$100 fine" is incorrect. The fine is based on your income. It is $750 or 2% of your income. The more you make, the more you pay. Redistribution of wealth.

Politicians ride roughshod

Politicians ride roughshod over our liberties, so we have no choice but to reluctantly turn to the courts and hope they will apply the Constitution properly and void this noxious law.

My oh my just look at all the

My oh my just look at all the constitutional scholars we have posting today. But they all sound like they got their buzz words from the great fat one, also known as the great patriot that never served his country in any way. I find it amazing that people like Chillen can find no other words than "america like it or leave it", to support a position. If the great one hasn't told them what to say they are at a complete loss for words. P.S. if you lived in Europe for a while you would find many laws they have, appropriate and overdue for enactment here.

disssman, look again, my post

disssman, look again, my post was filled with facts. Where are yours by the way? Obama hasn't been on the air yet today to tell the sheeple what to think yet?

I had a wonderful dream last night. The liberal and entitlement crowd (mostly one and the same) decided to move to Europe. That hastened their collapse and the United States economy was simply booming!

Alas, just a dream. One can always hope though, can't they?

" if you lived in Europe for

" if you lived in Europe for a while you would find many laws they have, appropriate and overdue for enactment here". Yeh right dissman. We want to be just as broke and going down the tubes as Europe. You will be seeing many of those European laws being changed as the IMF forces them to "unsocialize". They can't even solve their problems with increased taxes since they already take everything from working people.....just like we are starting to do here. You can love Europe and Socialism all you want to but it is obvious from current events that Europe is not a functioning eutopia and Socialism does not work, never has.....anwhere, and never will.

Dissman-From your post I

Dissman-From your post I think you are refering to Micheal Moore and the posts by Face the Music and Kappa18. Face the music who dosen't understand the constitution allows the federal government to regulate commerce BETWEEN states and not with in a state and Kapa 18 who fails to grasp the significance of the constitution in the governance of America. I am sure you can get them up to speed-it shouldn't be to hard since they are fellow liberals..the work here is endless I think you will agree...LOL

Georgia State government

Georgia State government mandates all of us to buy car insurance from private companies that can make their own rules and price. Failing to buy insurance we will be paying fines and may be subject to more penalties and higher insurance premiums. we are paying premiums to cover uninsured motorists. The insurance business was created to reduce individual risk by distributing the risk over a large number of people. If healthy people refuse to pay medical insurance, then insurance companies have the right to deny insurance for them when they become sick.

aladienfadel. You are not

aladienfadel. You are not required to purchase car insurance. You can choose not to drive or to only drive on your own property. No insurance required.

If you do choose to drive on a public road, then you must buy insurance because your actions could hurt or kill other individuals or their property.

Health insurance is different. If I choose not to carry it, my poor health will in no way influence your health. I can't cause damage that I won't fix to you or your property if I choose not to have healthcare.

chillen: If you do not buy

chillen: If you do not buy health insurance, and have a wreck or serious illness, can you write a check to cover a few hundred thousand dollar medical bill? If not, then the costs are passed to all others who use that hospital. Perhaps you should just carry a card that says to leave you in the street if you have a wreck and you'll be picked up when they scrape the deer off the road. Oh sorry, that's the government doing that too. Just leave you there I guess.

techfan. If you don't have

techfan. If you don't have health insurance and can't pay, I guess you get what you get. Its all about choices in life. Me, I have insurance - auto, health & life. I have planned, saved and lived a fairly frugal life (especially lately).

The entitlement crowd can give up the cell phone, blue tooth headsets, flat screen tv, cable, fake nails, shiny car, trips, etc. Make the hard choices and pay your own way. Buy your own insurance please.

Clearly the entitlement crowd is unwilling to sacrifice their own "wants" but they ARE willing to have the government force me to sacrifice mine so that I can pay for their insurance and entitlements.

Skunks.

What does this have to do with my last post anyway. Nice liberal diversionary tactic.

aladienfadel- Driving a car

aladienfadel- Driving a car is a privilege granted by the state not a right- hence the state can restrict and regulate and make requirements to exercise that privilege-being an American citizen the government is restricted from what it can impose..

Don't sue over new

Don't sue over new health-care plan? This plan should have never been made into law! It certainly violates the personal freedoms of every American. Paying a PRIVATE INSURANCE COMPANY for health insurance from cradle to grave is UN-AMERICAN! And, we are penalized by the government for not having this health insurance, too. This plan is a tax paid to the private insurance companies from cradle to grave! I cannot imagine a more unconstitutional law!

Approx. 954 days left for

Approx. 954 days left for Obama. So suck it up and let’s get through this morons presidency. Let’s hope he doesn't do irreparable damage to this Country before he’s back in Illinois taking ACORN money again and badmouthing his Country with the Right Rev Wright. He’s beginning to make Jimmy Carter look like a genius with his stupid comments about the Police and his driving a stake down the middle of this Country like never before. I would imagine that the stoner generation who elected this pathetic excuse for a leader realizes that on Election Day they need to give up the drugs and save the few brain cells they have left so this doesn’t happen again.

One more comment, it’s the People who elected Obama to do the will of the People. If the People want the AZ Immigration Law then Obama should want the AZ Immigration Law. If the people rejected his Health Care Program, Then Obama should have dumped the plan. Obviously he will not do the will of the People, so the People should overwhelmingly dump this dictator and his cronies.
