Cinco de Mayo helps fan rebellion

  • Follow Letters

Amid the recent flap over Arizona's anti-illegal alien law; American flag T-shirts being worn in American schools; and Mexican flags being removed and/or burned, Cinco de Mayo -- normally a regional holiday limited to the Mexican state of Puebla -- has gained a much wider and deeper symbolic meaning to the illegal (and some legal) Mexican populations in the United States.

There is a rising belief among Mexicans that the Southwest, and perhaps the entire North American continent, rightfully belongs to Mexico, and was stolen from Mexico by the Europeans. They call this alleged territory of theirs Aztlan, a name taken from Mexican folklore. This is the argument of Mexican nationalist revolutionary groups Mecha, Aztlan and La Raza (translated "The Race," to which Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor belongs).

Many Americans mistakenly believe Cinco de Mayo commemorates Mexico's independence day, but this is not true. Mexican Independence Day is celebrated on Sept. 16. Cinco de Mayo is celebrated on May 5 and commemorates the expulsion of the French from Puebla, Mexico, in 1862.

So it becomes easy to understand why Mexican revolutionaries in the United States promote this holiday among their followers. They do it to set the stage to expel all the other "gringos" -- and, if California is to be any indication of things to come, African-Americans also -- from Aztlan. These revolutionaries are proverbially killing the geese that lay their golden eggs, and destroying the reason why so many risk so much to come here to begin with.

Illegal Mexican Immigrants

Illegal Mexican Immigrants have taken over millions of jobs that would have gone to blacks, whites, or other legal immigrants. And Why? Because they will work cheaper than Americans. Why? Because our dollars are worth much more in Mexico which is exactly where our Dollars are going. Illegal Immigrants are sucking the life out of the Border States and the States adjacent to the Border States are next. The people in Arizona have had it. They can no longer feed their families there. If the Arizona law fails to drive out the illegal immigrants, then you had better learn to speak Spanish--and fast--try the Rosetta Stone.

What if we thought outside

What if we thought outside the box? If a two-state solution is right for Israel, why shouldn't a two- or multi-state solution be right for the U.S.?

Granted, Atzlan is a myth as are its history, people, and their race. But so are the so-called Palestinians, who are actually Arabs (Yasser Arafat was a native of Cairo, Egypt, remember?).

Maybe all this unrest in our southwestern states is payback. We could be reaping what we've sown in pressuring Israel to accommodate terrorists.

I heard that in Mexico, Mexican kids who wore a Mexican flag shirt to school on July 4th had to turn them inside out. Yeah, I am joking. But this is no joke. Is this America? Hispanics seem to think not. Out in L.A., there is a website for one of the Spanish language tv stations that has the name of L.A. listed as L.A. with USA crossed out and MEXICO written over it. This should outrage the liberals as well, but probably won't. They seem too wrapped up with Rush, Fox News, and the tea parties.

Enforce the border. Enforce

Enforce the border. Enforce the workplaces. Enforcement is the only answer if we want to keep our country. Still don't believe we are being invaded? Take a look here. For example, this group wants a boycott of Arizona where there are a lot of Hispanic businesses and hard working Hispanics. The Arizona law allows Arizona police officers to ask for immigration status when persons are first apprehended for other law infractions. Looks more like a publicity stunt to make a name for themselves. In a real sense, they are promoting a boycott of the people they represent. http://www.nclr.org/section/boycott_intolerance_petition/

Personally, we're all to blame for the millions of illegal Mexicans in our country. You can start with the Federal Goverment which will lock you up for failing to submit to the US Census, while giving illegal aliens a free pass and condemning anyone who tries to check their papers to see if they're in this country legally. Makes sense huh?
Then there are our businesses which hire them because they work cheaper. Lastly there is YOU and ME who patronize Mexican restaurants enmasse. Have you ever noticed how many of their employees speak NO english? If they don't speak English you can bet they are illegals.
If we can't depend on the Federal Government to protect the border and ferret out illegals, it becomes encumbent upon us to do the job. That begins by not hiring contractors who utilize illegal alien labor, and yes that means a committment to pay a little bit more to employ a legal worker, a little bit more for those tomatoes. Then there's the most affective tool yet, simply do not spend money in Mexican Restaurants. These restaurants are usually among the first place Illegals find work and from there disperse into the population. If you're not prepared to do your part, don't complain about the job The Feds are doing.

If we enforce our immigration

If we enforce our immigration law, close the border - preferably with a fence and troops sent down with shoot to kill orders, send all illegals who are in prison home, give fines or jail time for employers and landlords who provide anything for illegals --- then we can have this whole problem eradicated within a couple of years.

It will be difficult and require dedicated citizens (watchdogs) and a dedicated federal government (no way), but it can be done.

Please keep in mind, that

Please keep in mind, that while the largest group of illegal immigrants is from Mexico, they are also streaming in from Honduras, Brazil, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, and Costa Rica. They are all just being lumped together as "Mexicans" because of similar appearance. They are coming up through Mexico to get here.

Why are WE celebrating a

Why are WE celebrating a Mexican holiday? As said, just another excuse for a sale and advertising revenue.

I have a solution - dig a moat just inside our border, take the dirt to New Orleans to help with their flooding issues. Let the moat fill with water from the Gulf and alligators from the swamps. Post signs every half-mile. Problem solved.

Did I read this correctly?

Did I read this correctly? Celebrating Cinco de Mayo promotes rebellion by illegal Mexican immigrants, who are wanting to overthrow the U.S. and drive out the gringos. So, I guess celebrating St Patrick's Day is the Irish plot to impose Catholicism on the U.S. just as St Patrick did in Ireland. On the other hand, summer Solstice celebrations are a plot to return us all to heathenism. We all know that Halloween is a plot led by satanists to overthrow Christianity. And Confederate Memorial Day is a plot by southern racists to reinstall slavery. And Christmas is a plot by Christians to .... I'm sure Mother's Day is a plot as well.

Well the Mexicans have done

Well the Mexicans have done such a great job in their country. Why wouldn't we let them have the South Western states back?

I'll answer that my self. There was this little thing called the Gadsden Purchase where the USA bought those basically worthless desert and mountainous states from Mexico. Now that the Gringo has turned them into something they want them back.

You can undoubtedly blame the

You can undoubtedly blame the federal government. If they aren't going to address the real issue and root cause of illegal immigration which is the copious amounts of welfare offered to illegals and also to Americans who refuse to work many of these unskilled labor jobs which are all they are qualified to perform, then at least spend money which they are definitely good at doing. Build a big wall, dig a big ditch, and set up high caliber guns on towers with motion and heat detectors.

Cinco de Mayo is not a legal

Cinco de Mayo is not a legal holiday in Mexico. The attention to this date was a marketing ploy by Corona several years ago just to create a time of celebration including and emphasizing their product. Instead of boycotting mexican restaurants, let the authorities make a courtesy cruise of information of all of the employees daily. Don't have your papers?.......then Juarez, will be your next destination. BTW, obtain photographs, fingerprints, and DNA during the first arrest. A subsequent offense on the part of the individual (illegal alien) will earn them 5 years in a U.S. prison, or a five year enlistment in the military which when completed will earn them U. S. citizenship. Sounds like a plan to me.

There are ten Hispanics roofing your house, one Anglo supervising, the ten illegals all get a 1099 rather than W-2. The contractor withholds no state, federal, or FICA. You think these illegals are gonna report the income, pay state, federal, and BOTH halves of FICA? Think about this, how patriotic are you, if you do business with these contractors?

For the same reason that we celebrate Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Bastille Day, Christmas, Halloween, etc.

Did any of those holidays orginate in America? No.

You know, I have read every

You know, I have read every post in this thread, and I am truly amazed at the ignorance, and failure to understand what is happening and exactly what is at stake here. Lots of glib comments about other holidays, which are absolutely what I would expect from liberals. The fact is that they are currently teaching open rebellion, not only on the streets of our south western states, but in the schools as well. Had those teaching been TEA party members, or conservatives, the FBI, DEA, CIA, and DHS would already have made numerous arrests for sedition. Make no mistake, this is NOT a joke, or laughing matter. The speeches from these hispanic teachers, speaking hatred and overthrow of our country, is even now being taught to those that care to hear, and guess what, they are mostly ILLEGAL ALIENS! Go figure. Well, the new polls out today tell the truth of the matter, which is that over 70% of the US supports the war against the illegal Mexican invasion currently in progress. Spin it any way you want, but when the borders are sealed, then we can talk about this issue, and not before. Until then, the issue is dead to most Americans. We already tried amnesty once before and the primary hook was that the borders would be sealed if they were granted citizenship. It failed. Never again. Seal the borders first. SEAL THE DARN BORDERS FIRST! Maybe if I type it in caps, somebody will see it and finally get it. No, probably not..sigh..

OK, today I'm a liberal. Of

OK, today I'm a liberal. Of course, I fully support the new Arizona law, but I'm a liberal.

Cinco de Mayo fuels rebellion about as much as Arbor Day does.

Who is teaching about this rebellion? What schools? Hispanic teachers are illegal aliens? How do you get a teaching license if you are an illegal alien? How is an I-9 created for an illegal alien?

TheFed, hey, you have to chill. You aren't even making sense.

OK, first off, I never

OK, first off, I never mentioned you, nor said you were liberal. Second, I suppose ALL of the students in Calif, Az, etc, are all legal American citizens, right? No, of course they're not. Makes sense to me. However, the teachers, teaching these students, are NOT teaching about being good Americans. They are sewing the seeds of rebellion. Here is but one link, which is a speech by a radical latino UCLA professor, and you watch, and tell me what you think of how well our young people are being taught about melting into our society, ok? About how they can be good US citizens, ok? Please, tell me that this is something that is so hard to understand? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y12ZNUkRtdk btw...I never said that the teachers were illegal aliens. I said that the teachers are teaching sedition to young illegal alien students, instead of what they should be learning. Lastly, I never said a single word about Cinco de Mayo, but what I did say makes a great deal of sense to those who have the ability and the will to understand.

For the most part, Cinco de

For the most part, Cinco de Mayo is simply a reason to get drunk and party in America. This year has been a bit different due to many reasons. As for Mexicans showing their pride in their country, I suppose that is why 12 million of them left Mexico for America illegally. Legal Immigrants are welcome in America and many are more productive than those of us from here to begin with. We MUST secure our borders 100%, then remove all illegal immigrants who have violated our laws other than our immigration law. From there, we need to have a plan for those who are already working to register and have a long term plan for some sort of registration as a legal documented worker. They do not deserve citizenship since they broke our laws from day one and if that is what they want, they need to leave now, start over and try to obtain citizenship the legal way. It isn't just about crime with illegals, it is about taking jobs from Americans, including legal imigrants, its about use of services ranging from public safety to hospitals and schools, all at a very high expense to US taxpayers. It isn't about race or discrimination and to even say that shows how ignorant and shallow of an individual you are. We all need to work together to solve this problem and our administration needs to stop burrying its head in the sand as this is a major issue at this time which our President is ducking for political reasons. Other administrations have failed to deal with this as well but it currently is at a crisis and is effecting all of us in many ways and requires immediate action.

If the government was really

If the government was really serious about closing the southern border, it could be done! Hower, since politicians at the highest level of the Mexican and American establishments are somehow benefiting from the Illegal smuggling of drugs, terrorists, guns, explosives, people, etc., it will be wide open for some time to come.
Instead of sacrificing the lives of our servicemen and women to aid the production of opium in Afghanistan, and to support a US backed puppet government, bring them home. The only thing the Afghan government is in control of is its bank account! The Taliban are like fire ants. They are there to stay, and all we can do is to control them.
Obama must have FLUNKED history! Every empire that has invaded Afghanistan has been absorbed, or finally left because they could not sustain the losses-that goes for the British Empire and the Russians.
If we placed the National Guard shoulder to shoulder on the Mexican border, with orders to shoot to kill, the border would be sealed.
Oh, I read that there are 80,000 US troops training at Fort Stewart to quell the upcoming riots before the 2010 elections. The plot is to infiltrate the Tea Party with radicals, and these radicals and their dupes will stage a violent protest, throw Molotov cocktails, etc.
This is to give Obama an excuse to put down the "rebellion" with armed troops.
I thought this was really far-fetched, but I continue to see MRAPs heading West on I-20, insted of East. These are the vehicles being used in Iraq and Afghanistan against the insurgents.

I like the cultural diversity

I like the cultural diversity that a Cinco-de-Mayo event brings to our city. The event no longer seems to reflect its political roots from Mexico. It has turned into an event of cultural sharing. However, I do not believe that this should become a national holiday, since this day has nothing to do with the United States. Keep an watchful eye on the present federal government. I would not put it past the Congress to make Cinco de Mayo a national holiday after they amnesty all the illegal (alien) immigrants they have allowed to remain in the U.S.

Rd. Mostly Mexicans that I could see. They worked until dark every day last week and on Saturday and Sunday. Try to get a white or black crew to do that. They will not and that is why the Mexicans are gaining.
