Socialism slowly trapping our country

  • Follow Letters

Just as sure as the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, you can count on a politician to attempt to buy his or her way back into office with other people's money. This is standard operating procedure. The difference between a politician and a statesman is that a politician cares only about being re-elected, whereas a statesman cares about the next generation.

It would do little or no good to explain that the free market can provide better services and be more cost-efficient than all these socialist programs such as government housing, health care, transportation, recreation parks, EMS and so on.

It is because government tried to be everything to everyone that our nation is bankrupt. We owe $12.4 trillion. That's $111,000 per taxpayer. Does any reasonable person think this debt will ever be paid off? Of course not. You want to see what our children's future will look like?

Look no further than Greece. They have spent themselves into economic collapse.

Socialism does not work because it is contrary to human nature. People want to keep the fruits of their labor. When the incentive to produce is destroyed, the whole system comes tumbling down.

If our nation is to be saved, it must start with the educating of the electorate on the local level. An old French proverb says, "Free cheese can only be found on a mouse trap." Fellow mice, we have been trapped.

Excellent Letter - It is sad

Excellent Letter - It is sad that so many simply don't understand or actually believe that the government can do a better job with their money than they can theirselves. ALL social programs need to end, slowly since so many are now dependet on them but they should be 100% eliminated. When people need help, they should turn to family, friends, church, or charity and not be enabled by our government.

Brayton- Read about a guy

Brayton- Read about a guy named Renolds in the last issue of INC magazine. He is with a team of scientist andengineers developing a process to help Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) patients. He has spent millions of this own money, works about 16 hours a day and has suffered SCI himself- Once all incentive is taken out do you think he will still sacrifice himself like that? Do you think the people that work with him will work that hard? Look at the human gnome and Venter vs the government run group for an idea of how government stifles innovation..

The government has broken

The government has broken promise after promise about SS spending the SS funds (democrates 1950's) to making the SS number a national ID. Now you say those of us that pay into it (I've paided in over 44 years so far) that it is a social program? I would gladly opt out execpt I can't..try not paying Brayton...

It's a little too late to end

It's a little too late to end Social Security - years of deficit spending will do that for us in the next decade. All the money carcraft put into it for the last 44 years has already been spent and the government has borrowed heavily against money that will be paid into it in the future. The first wave of the baby boomers will get some of their money back when they retire. As more and more boomers retire, they will be paid back with wildly inflated dollars. At some point, Congress and the President will have to curtail even that.

The social security trust was

The social security trust was too profitable and the politicians (Dems) "borrowed" from it to buy votes from indigents. It's been raped for social programs ("free" giveaways to the non-productive) for decades and every attempt to privatize it is met with fear mongering and racism. The point of this LTE is made when it states "socialism doesn't work" , at least not for the country shackled with it. Our current administration is all about socialism, or some form of it, but this has been creeping into our government since the 1900's. The 300 year plan isn't about sudden moves. obama's lack of patience is making a mess of a process that has been effectively unopposed for over 100 years. Now everyone can see what's been happening. It's not too late to jump out of the boiling water, the frog's not cooked yet. When we join the European Union, the jig will be up.

There's an ugly side to

There's an ugly side to capitalism. It's Greed, exploitation, poverty and poor social mobility. And socialism is just a reaction to these excesses. So clean up your ballyhooed capitalism and you won't have to decry the worst of socialism.

Now some anti-socialist can explain to the readership how to provide for the disabled, helpless kids and the elderly by using the Wall Street rollercoaster ride.

And a bigger question too. Why did the developed world, including Europe, decide to junk capitalism and embrace socialism?

Well put. The more the

Well put. The more the 'entitle'est' generation receive, the more they want and expect. Even in the Bible it says that if a man does not work, he shall not eat. The government doesn't owe anyone anything. If I could have opted out of SS, I would have a long time ago; but I had no choice. I just hope I live long enough to get back what they took.

Now in some European countries, they believe they deserve a paid vacation...and it's a 'right'. What have we come to?

"Free cheese can only be

"Free cheese can only be found on a mouse trap." "Fellow mice, we have been trapped."

Kind of an ironic quote given the breaking "free cheese" headline today.

40 million Americans are now on food stamps. Our population is 308 million. A staggering 13% of our country is now on the welfare program of food stamps.

This doesn't even include the free housing, free healthcare, free spending money (welfare), earned income tax credits that the moochers are also receiving. Lets also not forget about the 99 weeks of unemployment benefits. Once you receive more in "compensation" than your employer put in for you (it usually will last only a month or two) then you are technically on welfare.

We've become a nation of freeloaders. Wealth redistribution at its finest.

Socialism and Marxism don't work.

Oh how everyone loves those

Oh how everyone loves those sweet sweet simple answers and they almost always turn out to be rubbish once they have to face the test of the real world. So....

A. Why do conservatives always quote some stupid French philosopher like de Toqueville to prove that America is doomed because we allow people to vote the way they choose. That stinking de Toqueville was a French aristocrat who preferred monarchy to democracy. Get real.

B. America was a much better country when the taxes on billionaires (adjusted for inflation) were three times what they are today, that would be between 1940-80.

It's not your fault to be born stupid, we all are, but it's your fault if you stay stupid and parrot the idiotic snake oil nonsense of Hannity and Limbaugh.

gaspringwater..... IF we were

gaspringwater..... IF we were only helping " the disabled, helpless kids and the elderly" it would not even be a dent in our budget. It's the habitual welfare leeches, the lazy, the subsidy crowd that is killing us. Dependence on government assistance has totally blown by "helping the needy" and has become a lifestyle, and yes, even an industry. And I just cannot believe the level of idiocy of people who continue to advocate expansion of "the great government provider" programs when all they have to do is look at Europe to see the results. All of their Obamacare type programs in Europe are broke and have resulted in rationing and lower quality of healthcare and the rest of their great experiment in socialism has resulted in ALL of their governments going totally bankrupt. Greece, Portugal, and Spain are just the tip of the iceberg and we are the caboose hooked to the same train. We are merely a few years from total collapse ourselves. In November and in 2012 we need to derail that train and put a stop to non-contributory social welfare program spending. We need to fulfill our obligations under the government mandated Social Security and Medicare programs for those who have already paid into the program for their entire lives and we need to cut spending to those who have sat on their duffs and rode the gravey train for their entire lives. We need to repeal and replace Obamacare with some common sense changes to insurance regulations that will actually LOWER healthcare premiums but WILL NOT make healthcare a constitutional right. If you want healthcare, GET A JOB and pay for it. I see a few of you communists out there don't think too much of capitalism but I don't even have to argue with you. All I have to do is point to what is happening today in Europe, the bastion of your socialist eutopia. Socialism did not work in Russia or China under Communist regimes and Socialism has not worked in Europe under "democratic" governments. The only thing that has worked consistently for 250 years is Capitalism under a Republic with a Free Enterprise system here in the good old USA. Maybe there are some inequalities and maybe there are some inconsistencies but our poorest people still live better than 80% of the rest of the world. I recommend you consider that seriously before you skip happily down the path of Socialism and find yourself in Greece 5 years from now. SOCIALISM HAS NEVER WORKED anywhere and under any form of government. Even Communist China and Communist Russia have had to open their system up to CAPITALISM to keep from starving. Are you so stupid that you still insist on trying socialism here?

Snake oil nonsense of Hannity and Limbaugh, LOL, you should add Coulter, O'Reilly, Savage, Beck, Malkin, Ingraham, Bruce, Levin, Briebart, Erickson, Drudge, Buchanan, Gingrich and Bachman.... Have you ever noticed how Hannity voices changes when he talks bad about Obama?

Honestly I've just heard of these people here recently when Obama was nominated, I use to briefly watch Hannity and Colmes and visit Limbaugh's website daily. The others I only know now because of what they have said over the past year or so that made news. Some of the things they say I be like what!!!. I will say however, out of these sixteen I think O'Reilly is the only one who may not hate Obama to the core.

Think about it this way. 40

Think about it this way.

40 Million Americans currently are on the government dole.

Say, hypothetically, that each of them receives $2000 in federal welfare/freebie benefits every month (and that is being less than generous, it's likely much higher when you throw in healthcare).

The monthly federal burden to support the freeloaders is $80 Billion. Annually it is $960 Billion.

About 150 Million Americans work. Only half of them pay federal taxes.

So, the $960 Billion dollar "burden" is falling on 75 million people. That is an annual burden per working/tax paying person of $12,800, just to pay for welfare, food stamps, medicaide, housing, etc.

Now do you all see why socialism doesn't work? Do you see why everyone is so upset about people who can but won't work?

I guess I need to get back to work so I can pay for my taxes and my piece of the welfare pie.

Chips I liked America better when the income tax was unconstitutional! America has lead the world in innovation and technology for years..as socialism takes over and stifles innovation we will be third string just in front of Germany and England with Spain and Greece tagging along behind..I caught a little news note the other day ..Fannie mae is asking for another 8 billion dollars...so much for federal efficiency..do you think Fannie will pay us back?

I can't watch Limbaugh, when they show clips of him moving in his chair its hard on the eyes to watch him as he looks like he's going to explode when he talks about Obama. He also bobbles, wiggles, shakes, thrust, grimaces, radiates anger, spews bitterness, oinkness, looks sloppy, unhealthy, repugnant, hostile, scared and cautious. His voice is irritating.

It has been going on for a century and only keep spiraling further out of control. SOME public education is funding is fine but all the rest needs to be abolished. It isn't up to the taxpayers to provide housing, food, and healthcare to others. If their familty and friends won't take care of them then let social Darwinism clean up America.

I'm listening right now to

I'm listening right now to the lying fool Limbaugh and he's explaining how the Greek bailout won't work just like our bank bailouts didn't work.

What an insane idiot! Every economist on earth knows that we saved our financial system with the TARP and bank bailouts and most of the money has been repayed at a profit.

The Republicans and Bush even recognized it and this fat lazy idiot is just saying crap that he knows people want to hear because he's a 'no government apostle'.

If it was up to this fat idiot the whole world would be a monarchy and he'd be lord of his little fiefdom.

If Limbaugh had been around during the American revolution he would have shot Paul Revere's horse.

It is not only this country,

It is not only this country, Gordon Brown will hold his office in Britian with the intention of turning it over to the Liberals although the Conservatives won the election AND even though the polls indicate the majority want him to step down. You can read about all of this from the Holy Bible.; Global markets....global leaders, it is all there.
