House Democrats carved nation's epitaph

  • Follow Letters

March 21, 2010 -- a date that will live in infamy.

On this day the House of Representatives of the United States put into motion the beginning of the end of our form of self-governance. We have allowed an anti-capitalist president -- aided by a largely fawning press and abetted by a leftist Democratic Party -- to begin the downfall of a form of government that has brought mankind further than any in recorded history.

R.I.P., America!

William Davis

You're taking a lot of credit

You're taking a lot of credit for what we, as a country, have accomplished. Admittedly we have driven much of what has happened in the world this past century. To claim, though, that we "brought mankind further than any in recorded history" is a little arrogant. Even if you believe that this statement is true, the arrogance of it is what will lead to our ultimate downfall.

I humbly submit that the POTUS lying to the American people and then involving us in 2 wars, apparently for the sake of having 2 wars, is more accurately the beginning of the downfall of this great nation. Whether we want to admit it or not, we exist in the world with other countries. If we step too far over the line they can band together and destroy us as surely as we, and they, banded together to destroy Nazi germany and the Japanese Empire in WWII. It won't necessarily be through armed conflict, either. They can just as easily ruin us financially and make us irrelevant in the world. This situation didn't happen over the last year or so, either. It started about 1960 when our "interests" started focusing on the Far East and we used the threat of world-wide Communism to justify our activities in Viet Nam.

Take a larger view of history and compare what is happening to us to what happened to the Roman Empire. That same pattern has been repeated on various scales throughout history. Your agreement with me on this, or not, is irrelevant when we are dead or unable to control anything about our lives.

We stand on a perilous precipice in history and it is not solely because of Barak Obama. Saving ourselves will not come from the blind advocacy of a political position. Doing so only opens us up to a massive, painful paradigm shift at the hands of others outside of this country.

I agree, Orgpsych, and will

I agree, Orgpsych, and will up it one more point. While I will be the first to say that our form of government is by far the best, we have become so arrogant as to believe that we should force it upon any other country whose form of government we disagree with. We are NOT the world's police force, nor are we their conscience. Our country was founded on the idea that people should be governed as THEY SEE FIT, not as WE see fit for them. If they attack us, they should be squashed like a bug. Where is the logic in fabricating tales of WMDs and removing a ruler of a country that had not attacked us, while pandering to China, Russia and BUYING OIL from one of our worst detractors, Hugo Chavez? Nixon should have attacked China, not gone to become buddy buddy with them, yet 30 years later, another Republican president, increased our debt to them in the name of a bailout and a huge 1.3 trillion UNFUNDED tax break for the wealthy(passed on reconciliation, if I remember correctly)! I really am incredulous how all the wonderful, fiscally responsible RRWers (Radical Right Wingers, since I can't use the other "offensive, but accurate term) can sing the praises of Dub and the Nazi, Cheney, ignoring the fact that their administration increased our national debt horrendously, yet curse the administration that was ELECTED to correct the problems they caused!

If the Repubs don't elect

If the Repubs don't elect constitutionalists to replace the super socialists that now infest congress, then William Davis LTE can be what happens. IF they're replaced by the typical D.C. politician that likes being bribed by lobbyists, then there will be no improvement. Party isn't as important character. We've seen that there are no Dems currently in office with honor and very few Repubs. Continue to put these type in office and we'll be another Cuba this decade. Don't go by the campaign promises of the politician you vote for (see current obamassiah) but look at their record. If they don't believe in the constitution, as shown by their actions, then they are no better than what we have.

Oooh, I've always wanted to say this since I heard it told to me so often when I was protesting the invasion of Iraq: "This is America. If you don't like it, then you can get out." I'm joking, of course, but there is an irony there.

No, we did not lose the

No, we did not lose the healthcare battle. The Communist Party went behind closed doors and used taxpayer money to bribe each other to accumulate enough votes (barely) to override the will of the majority of the working taxpayers in this country. The will of the majority of working taxpayers who will have their incomes reduced, the quality of their healthcare reduced, and who will forever have to take money out of their families budgets to support (even more than they already do) the freeloaders of the entitlement crowd. You know, the core base of the Democrat Communsit Party. We did not lose the healthcare issue. We have lost the Constitution and the values that made this the greatest nation in the world for 250 years. We are well on our way to being just another financially bankrupt Socialist country where we will all share equally in a poor standard of living. And we got there by giving a super majority to an arrogant party who used bribes and payoffs to buy enough votes to pass a bill that could not have passed on it's own merits with an honest, public, up or down vote with no bribery involved. I am sure the bums and freeloaders love it, as do the Communist leadership of the Democrat Party. But the average citizen who has to live with the results of the corrupt process the Democrats used to pass this government takeover will be hating what has happened in 10 years when the bill comes due and the quality of healthcare is way down. But that's okay. The bums and freeloaders are happy and the Communist leadership is happy and that is all that matters when the Democrats are in power. Government control is up, taxes are going up, unemployment is high, housing prices are still going down, the quality of healthcare and standard of living are going down. All is right in the Communist world.

* Report

It's hilarious....according to the polls, the people like Obama, are worried about the health bill(because they don't understand it yet), dislike the Dems, but they HATE the Republicans! ROFLMAO!

Must be a CNN poll. Rasmussen says as of today: "The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Wednesday shows that 31% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Forty-two percent (42%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -11 (see trends).

The Approval Index rating today represents a seven-point gain for the President compared to a week ago. The bounce comes entirely from increased enthusiasm among Democrats. Today, 60% of Democrats Strongly Approve while only 9% Strongly Disapprove. A week ago, those figures were 46% Strongly Approve and 14% Strongly Disapprove.

Among Republicans, the President’s Approval Index was at -66 a week ago and is the same today. Among voters not affiliated with either major party, the President’s Approval Index rating was -25 a week ago and -26 today." Pelosi's rating is 11% and Reid 8%. Now that's real popularity amongst Americans, isn't it?

Mr Davis seems to understand

Mr Davis seems to understand that this bill has absolutely nothing to do with healthcare. It is solely about keeping the government in leftist control for as long as possible. The end conclusion being exactly what happens to every socialist system eventually. Death to freedom and complete reliance on the government. I beleive it was Jefferson who said, "The government that has the power to give you anything also has the power to take from you everything". That's what we will see in a generation or two if this madness is not stopped now.

What is that smell? Oh, it's fear. Fear that you may have to pay a few more dollars to save a life! Fear that those people will get something they don't deserve! Fear that some people may live just a little longer. I oppose abortion--but I'm fine with withholding healthcare.

Your posts are distasteful. Nobody is withholding health care. We just think that people often choose not to have health insurance. I bet you know someone who drives a big truck or an SUV, but doesn't have health insurance.

No, Aurelius, it's fear that I won't be able to provide what my own family needs because too much of what I'm working to earn is taken away from them and given to people who don't work for anything at all.

It's fear of the government deciding who gets to have enough and who has to go without, not based on productivity but on issues like political opinion, race, religion, moral stances.

It's fear of people like you having control over my ability to take care of my family, and it's completely justified.
