Don't push socialism on the people

  • Follow Letters

A recent Gallup poll indicates that a majority of Democrats (61 percent) believe that socialism is preferable to capitalism!

President Obama, from his earliest years, was exposed to communism from his father, his stepfather, his mother and his maternal grandparents. He has appointed communists to be his advisers, and claims one as his mentor! So the apple does not fall far from the tree. The thing about the socialist form of government is that it only elevates the government, while reducing the people to the lowest common denominator.

Your Democrat friends and neighbors are not only willing to give up the freedoms and opportunities they were guaranteed by the Constitution and have enjoyed for more than 230 years, but they blithely will give up yours also! They either are ignorant of or are ignoring the fine examples of socialist experiments that history has presented to them.

Starting with the now-defunct Soviet Union, Cuba, North Korea the People's Republic of China and now Venezuela, all are textbook cases of mismanagement, cruelty, disregard of their citizens' human rights and loss of freedom of the individual.

The state of Virginia has now become the 35th state to invoke the 10th Amendment to the Constitution and exempt itself from socialist federal policies, such as the ObamaCare health "reform," which was contrived in secret and is about to be inflicted on us by Democrats and Obama, even though 73 percent of Americans oppose it!

Our elected representatives are sent to Washington to do the will and the business of the people. The people, finally recognizing what is transpiring, are speaking loudly in opposition every day, but the only response from this president and this Congress is ridicule and contempt!

Robert stop living in fear, what do other polls say it's evident you are a republican so naturally you will write this type of letter, you are one of many. Hey AC how many more of these letters from people like Robert who #1 Dont't like Obama and #2 Didn't vote for Obama you have yet to print.

grouse

It's meds time again. Smock misstates the poll: http://www.gallup.com/poll/125645/socialism-viewed-positively-americans..... Look at the wording. According to Rasmussen, Republicans - by an 11-to-1 margin - favor capitalism. Democrats are much more closely divided: Just 39% say capitalism is better while 30% prefer socialism. As for those not affiliated with either major political party, 48% say capitalism is best, and 21% opt for socialism. With Rasmussen, there is no wording to examine. "The question posed by Rasmussen Reports did not define either capitalism or socialism" from their web page. http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/general_politics...

corgimom

I read the poll results, and Robert Smock, you are not telling the truth.

1) The people polled were NOT asked what political party they belonged to and 2) The people polled were NOT asked what they preferred, capitalism or socialism. 3) The terms "socialism" or "capitalism" were not defined.

Then Robert tells us how Democrats are willing to give up the freedoms and opportunities that they are guaranteed under the Constitution- when nothing of the sort was asked on the poll.

The political parties were NOT addressed. People polled were asked to define themselves as conservative, moderate, or liberal- which is not the same as identifing with a particular party.

The people polled were asked if their reaction was positive to hearing the word socialism. That doesn't mean they prefer it over capitalism.

Robert Smock, if you're going to write a LTE, at least tell the truth. Why waste your time, and our time, otherwise?

Tigger_The_Tiger

My God, notreally. That is one of the worst run-on sentences I have ever seen!

Tigger_The_Tiger

Wow....so since the socialists weren't given the definition of socialism or capitalism, the poll isn't valid? If they don't know the difference, I'd say it's even MORE telling.

Tigger_The_Tiger

Why would ANYONE have a positive reaction to stealing from productive people and giving to those who didn't earn it? (BTW....that is textbook socialism)

Roeschen

Corgimom - I suggest you look at the results of the poll again. The categories were listed as Republican/Republican leaners and Democrat/Democrat leaners as well as Conservative, Moderate, Liberals. So, yes, the political parties were addressed. However, in this case, it was the liberals, not the democrats, who were 61% in favor of socialism. Do you need a definition of capitalism or socialism? If a person does not know the difference, I would suggest taking a class in government. That might help clear some of the mysteries.

Dixieman

Sadly, I am not surprised by the results. Government schools plus decades of dependency lead to this result...

johnston.cliff

I've ceased to be amazed at how many ways the left has of justifying the relinquishment of liberties for perceived security. "It's meds time again", "Stop living in fear"(and just give yourself over) "That's not what I read" (if you parse it right you'll like socialism) "If you just pass this bill, you'll come to like it". If a person wants to just give up and be taken care of by the cabal, there are countries who already live like that. Cuba is even warm most of the year. Why tear America down?

johnston.cliff

You are spot on, Dixieman.

jiclemens

The very least the writer could do is compare and contrast related terms. Socialism and capitalism are apples and oranges. So the rest of the points are moot. The writer's interpretation of a poorly defined and unscientific poll show only how quickly we speak and how slowly we think.

GAterp

Socialism is really not such a bad word as the fearmongers would have you believe. Spend some time in Europe and you'll realize what a wonderful place it is. In fact, you don't see many Europeans coming into the US now, but the Mexicans are sure coming in droves. I personally am more afraid of Capitalism since Wall Street capitalists lead by GOP deregulation have really done a lot more damage to this country already than just the fear of Socialism. I didn't lose half of my nest egg to Socialists, I lost it to Capitalists! Start thinking logically and quit being so afraid. You can't scare me anymore!

GAterp

Spot on has got to be one of the stupidest phrases I've heard in a long time. It's right up there with "it is what it is".

Roeschen

I would like to know why the liberals seem to want to punish the hard-working Americans for being just that. Where do they think the money is going to come from for all of these social programs? Pass too many of these programs and the hard workers will quit working. Why bother when they are being taxed to death. It is time to make people be responsible for themselves and their offspring. Too many people believe they are owed because they were born. As I told my children, you are not owed anything. If you do not take the opportunities given to you for an education, then you are on your own. There are plenty of opportunities out there, you just have to open your eyes and look.

Chillen

GaTerp, if you lost half your nest egg then you need some serious investment advice. When Obama was elected and the stock market crashed it was temporary. You only lost tons of money if you were unwise & pulled it out when it was low.

You should really thank the capitalists, its due to them that you actually have a nest egg. If the socialists were in charge, they would control your nest egg & distribute it as they see fit. Your taxes would be so high you would be unable to save much, if anything.

If you like Europe so much I suggest you check out some of the one-way planes fares headed that direction. Perhaps Greece or Spain will work out well for you. Or you could try Germany or the UK. Socialism is working out so well for them. Their collapse is currently happening or imminent.

Lobosolo

and the beat goes on... Smock has shown over time that he doesn't read anything but Drudge... just like his daddy Ryan at the ACES... Y'all are so easily mislead... you read blather and believe it to be true to the point of repeating it in your vapid little heads as a mantra... This dude Obama has proven himself time and time over to be a centrist in the last year, but you're so consumed by the drivel you read as to be unable to discern this... If Obama embraced the mumbling Reagan's platform lock, stock, and barrel, you'd still call him a socialist. You guys are a hoot! Blissful, you guys are...

gaspringwater

Our government is infested with Democrats and Republicans. And that's why it's so mediocre. What we need is more DIVERSITY. We need some socialists and communists in our government too. Don't knock it until you've tried it! Capitalist plutocrats are not the cure-all for everything.

GAterp

Chillen, I lost my money BEFORE Obama was elected President. Thanks to the deregulation of Reagan and the Cut Tax and Spend Big policies of the Bush/Cheney regime. And let's not forget all of the Greedy Wall Street GOP capitalists out there who did the damage. Give me more Socialism. I can handle it. Capitalism is stupid rich people playing with all of our money. And I do spend lots of time in Europe, Germany is beautiful, and so is Italy. I like Luxembourg and France too. I'm still pretty loaded and the nest egg really isn't all scrambled. Stay cool chillen.

Chillen

If you lost money during the Reagan, Clinton & Bush years then you must have invested in swamp land or a ponzi scheme. You could buy a house & turn it around for a profit 6 months later. The stock market was rising almost daily. Sorry, it was virtually impossible to lose money. I think you're just making it up to make your socialists points.

The most greedy entity in the entire country is the Federal Government. You can have your socialism. But you'll never have it here. Tuesday, November 2, 2010 will change that. Just you wait and see.

GAterp

Tuesday, November 2nd will come and go and nothing will change all that much. The big banks on Wall Street rule the government, so if the Federal Government is the most greedy entity then it is the puppet held by the puppeteers of the rich bankers. That will be the same after 11/02 and for some time to come. Hopefully Senator Dodd can change all that before he leaves office.

Kapa18

This appeared on MSNBC today:

However, if their congressman votes with Democrats to pass the legislation, 36% say they would be less likely to re-elect that member, 28% say they would be more likely to vote for him/her, and 34% say it makes no difference.

& I took a poll on CNN and it was 46% in favor of passing health care now. If November is the only threat you have, then bring it. I'm like the President, we will take our chances. But the Repubthugs know this, that is why they fighting so hard. We are not known to take things lying down, Hecks, if we can win the the J. Wright thing hanging over our heads, this should be a piece of cake.

TheFederalist

Sorry Kapa18, but you are getting your statistics from a left leaning organization that has cooked the actual numbers. You can't get accurate results from online polls, because if you are a leftist, then you naturally listen to known leftist organizations like MSNBC. It is also amusing that you refer to the Republicans as "Repubthugs", when it is exactly the opposite. Who is subverting the rules, arm twisting, lying, back door dealing, promising the moon, and threatening those that do not tow the Pelosi/Reid line? Your thugs. Not ours. We can't stop it, because we don't have the votes, remember? Sure you do, so please stop insulting those that have been totally locked out of this process, and have no voice whatsoever, because the Democrats have excluded us completely. Should health care reform ultimately fail, it is on their heads, because they couldn't even get a simple majority, far less than is normally required, and they have blocked the use of the filibuster as well.

Roeschen

On June 30m 2008, obama stated in Independence, MO "When we pile up mountains of debt for the next generation to absorb, or put off changes to our energy policies, knowing full well the potential consequences of inaction, we are placing our short-term interests ahead of the nation's long-term well-being." Mind you, he was campaining and his speech is full of errors such as "as we begin the fourth century as a nation". Maybe it is time he start having to live what his speech writers actually wrote. He said a lot in order to get elected, now it is time he start living up to those promises.

Tigger_The_Tiger

At least he used quotation marks..........not like the BLATANT plagiarism I've seen here.

KSL

I'd like to know, as well, fd.
