Regarding the article "Augusta State eyes 'Patch' for expansion" (March 10): While this is an interesting approach, how does ASU come up with the money, if there are budget cuts being discussed in the legislature?
They do need to expand; they've been landlocked for years. The time to avoid that has long since passed. They should have acquired land years ago on the edge of town, like USC Aiken did.
Maybe the city could sell the Patch to the state for $1, just to show them how it's done. Then they can reciprocate by doing the same thing with the Golf Hall of Fame land.

Hey Bill, I posted that idea yesterday. Plagiarism at its best. Just give everything away. If you throw it in the air, it will fall on some "entitled individual".
Deekster. In rivercity we don't use the term "entitled" rather, we refer to them as "stake holders". They are the ones afterall, that we need to worry about.
Deekster you and Bill both have a good idea and one worth exploring. It's probably too practical.
Augusta State already is considering spending up to $38 Million to
expand. The plans are that it is going to happen Patch or no Patch.
Pay $38 million for Patch.
For those in the 1 dollar mode please give-away your own property.
Don't need to spend money on another baseball stadium have a nice
one already.
Don't need a weed garden downtown.
Learning more about this deal. Augusta wants to swap The Patch for
Golf Gardens. 78 acres for 17 acres. Owes nothing for Patch, but Gardens have a note for $500,000 a year for 6 years. Don't believe that this is a win -win.
In speculation a White Knight would come along and save Augusta by buying the land at a seriously reduce price or lease from the city for about $1 dollar a year for the greater good.
Augusta can't do the deal without giving away the Patch.
The appraisal was probably for a golf course in disrepair and not for developmental property. I would suggest an out town appraiser to re-appraise the property.
I would be concern about whom State Rep. Davis is actually representing.
