Editorial: No sympathy for Russian Olympic cheating

Speaking of drug abuse, here’s some that deserves zero sympathy.

The International Olympic Committee has banned Russia from the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, for widespread, systemic, state-sponsored doping of its athletes at the 2014 Sochi games in Russia.

As The New York Times summarized it, “a team assembled by Russia’s sports ministry tampered with more than 100 urine samples to conceal evidence of top athletes’ steroid use …”

Some untainted Russian athletes will be allowed to compete as neutral “Olympic Athletes from Russia,” but their flag won’t fly and their anthem won’t sound.

It’s about time. Communist cheating has gone on as long as we can remember.
