Reflections of a ghoulish regime

How long will China, U.S., put up with the murderous leaders in North Korea?

Satellite photos of the Korean peninsula at night illuminate a free and capitalist South Korea lit up like a Christmas tree, with communist North Korea dark as a cavern on a moonless night.

We’ve always thought that was just the difference in electricity use.

Maybe it’s more than that. Maybe what we’re actually seeing is a reflection of the ghoulish, sinister soul of a damnable dynasty.

George W. Bush was sometimes criticized for saying the truth out-loud – that North Korea is part of an “axis of evil” on Earth.

Can there be any doubt now? Now that it has taken a bright, young, adventurous, life-loving American, in 22-year-old Otto Warmbier, and ushered him to death’s door for no reason under the basic tenets of humanity?

Whether from torture or poisoning – purposeful or accidental – young Warmbier died Monday in Cincinnati after being held in North Korean clutches for 15 months for the high crime of taking a poster off a wall, likely for a souvenir.

Forgive the civilized world for doubting the official North Korean explanation that Warmbier sank into a coma a year ago after taking a sleeping pill following a case of botulism. And even if that had been the truth, the humane thing to do would’ve been to hand him over to his American family immediately, which they most certainly did not do.

In truth, doctors here found no evidence of botulism, but did find brain damage consistent with oxygen deprivation.

Common sense tells you such deprivation was likely administered intentionally. Under what conditions is a horror we may mercifully never be privy to.

The shadowy, cloistered, coveralled regime of bizarre, paranoid Kim Jong-un, you’ll recall, is believed by many to be behind the chilling Malaysian airport murder of his own half-brother in February – likely by assassins using the ultra-toxic nerve agent VX.

These people are above nothing, and no manner of depravity could be said to be beneath them. What they did to Otto Warmbier – without either justification or any trace of elemental feeling – amounts to nothing short of a crime against humanity.

The level of hatred and callous indifference that would lead someone to such treatment of another human being bespeaks a mass psychotic indoctrination – otherwise known as brainwashing – matched only in today’s world by that of cold-blooded Islamic radicals.

Axis of evil indeed.

How long will our major trading partner China prop up this reprobate regime that heartlessly kills innocent young Americans? How long will America and the American consumer brook it?

North Korea isn’t just one of the darkest terrains on Earth. It’s also home to one of the coldest nether-regions of the human soul.
