Ivanka Trump presaged the savage and unprecedented partisan-inspired rifle assault on Republican members of Congress Wednesday in Washington, D.C., when she spoke Monday about the unexpected level of viciousness her father and family have been subjected to since he won the presidency.
Truth be known, that malignant enmity courses through our culture, in left-wing comedians and celebrities and in the careless utterings of other left-leaning leaders.
This page has been warning for years about the very real dangers of the relentless, odious and contemptible rhetoric, images and even jokes spewing from liberals over the years, particularly since Democrats lost the election last November.
Just last Saturday, we wrote:
“When Democratic Rep. Gabby Giffords was shot by a crazed gunman in Tucson in 2011, liberal luminaries immediately – and wrongly, as it turned out – blamed conservative rhetoric. Sarah Palin was specifically called out – for the unimaginable crime of disseminating an electoral map with crosshairs on vulnerable Democrats’ districts. Gasp!
“No rational human being would disagree that today’s hyperbolic, even violent, rhetoric and images aimed at our president are astronomically worse than figurative crosshairs on an election strategy map.
“Little wonder there might be intelligence community moles and other fanatical functionaries feeling encouraged to act out their ‘patriotic’ fantasies of subterfuge against our president. …
“Can the same liberal lions who mistakenly blamed conservative oratory for the Giffords shooting not see what effect their own rabid, deranged utterings and poses are having on the body politic? Can they not discern when their own malignant mockery is being mimicked and multiplied?
“When is the frenzied left going to get a grip on itself? When will sensible liberals in their midst insist on it?”
Too late, if ever, it seems.
Credible reports say James T. Hodgkinson was a left-wing zealot, allegedly a Bernie Sanders supporter and member of the group “Terminate the Republican Party” who sought out Republican members of Congress for mass murder on a D.C. baseball field as they practiced for the annual good-natured ballgame with Democrats, who were practicing on another field at the time.
Only the grace of God and the presence of return fire prevented what might have been a massacre.
Now, one of the few lighthearted moments remaining in congressional life will be one of the most heavy-hearted in congressional history.
For unending months now, President Trump and his supporters have been bombarded with unrelenting invective, diatribe, epithet and threat. Liberal celebrities have talked openly about bombing the White House, while “comedian” Kathy Griffin posed with a mock severed head of our president and rapper Snoop Dogg and a New York theater troupe thought it culturally redeeming to perform mock executions of the president.
In a social media post a few weeks ago, John Griffin, a professor at the Art Institute of Washington, reportedly called for Republicans to be “lined up and shot.” Such things are being said openly and without fear of reprisal.
Game over. The liberal hatred must stop. Today. Good, sensible liberals must finally insist on it. And so should the left-leaning media. Before someone else gets shot or killed.
The left purports to be concerned about Earth’s climate. How about the political one?
