Clash warfare

Radical leftists seem bent on street fights, not speech rights

The attitude of many on the far left today seems to be that they’re entitled to their opinion – and that you’re entitled to their opinion as well.

Often masked and draped in black, often assaulting opponents with raw eggs and other “soft” weapons, and frequently showing up to ruin other people’s parties, these radical leftists are defiling our democracy and dishonoring the men and women who gave their lives and contributed their blood, sweat and tears to leaving us the freest nation in history.

They have done nothing less than militarize protest in America.

They appear to be funded and organized by some shadowy organization or individual – and they’re certainly not showing up to voice their opinions so much as to punish others for theirs.

The latest example is a bloody brawl at Berkeley last weekend, where a planned pro-Trump rally was descended upon by black-clad goons. More than 20 people were arrested.

The radical leftists, despite many hiding their faces, have no doubt made a calculation that the media will portray Trump supporters in a negative light – as they certainly have done for some time. The truth seems to be something quite different, as various reports of violence against Trump supporters have appeared and been quickly forgotten.

Trump supporters have apparently had to make a calculation of their own: that they better be ready for battle when gathering.

Whichever side you support, the militarization of American protest cannot be a welcome sight.

We urge both sides to stick to their own events – and not to associate with thugs who hide their faces and come principally to clash with others in order to silence them.

That’s as un-American as it gets.
