Embattled U.S. allies in grave need of American leadership

Sick, displaced Iraqis from the Yazidi community waited for treatment Tuesday at a camp clinic in Derike, Syria. Kurdish fighters rescued them by carving an escape route to tens of thousands trapped on a mountaintop.

It wouldn’t be so easy to criticize President Obama for embarking on a golf-and-beach outing while our allies in Israel, Ukraine and Iraq fight for their very survival if it were clear he genuinely cared about their plight.

If he does, it’s difficult to see.

We don’t see a president who acts like the leader of the free world. We see a hapless, helpless actor on a world stage, a virtual bystander to the events around him.

We see a president so detached by the genocide unfolding in Iraq that he tenaciously sticks to a two-week vacation plan less than 36 hours after ordering a mostly impotent air strike against the radical Islamic group ISIS, which is literally hacking ethnic Christians to pieces.

Just what does it take to come between Obama and a vacation?

By the way, the group of ex-al-Qaida jihadists responsible for the slaughter is the same one the president dismissively referred to as the “JV team” earlier this year. This is much the same group he referred to as
“decimated” during his 2012 reelection campaign.

The crises in Israel and Ukraine undoubtedly are matters of American concern, but the horrors in Iraq beg for a whole new level of attention – the kind that can’t be given while on the back nine at the Farm Neck Golf Club, or during a motorcade ride to a $15,000-a-ticket Democratic fundraiser in Tisbury, Mass.

The ISIS barbarisms against the people of Iraq include crucifixions, beheadings, executions and mass burials. Those who managed to dodge bullets and swords are left to die slowly of thirst, starvation and exposure.

“The world hasn’t seen this kind of atrocity in generations,” Mark Arabo, a Chaldean-American businessman told CNN. “They are literally enjoying the act of killing and the fear and suffering experienced by others. This sadism may be the purest manifestation of evil witnessed since the Rape of Nanking during World War II.”

We have a moral obligation to help these people. And it’s going to take more than a few token air strikes.

The United States helped create the circumstances for their suffering when Mr. Obama declared victory and pulled our troops out, creating the vacuum filled by radicals whose declared goal is to create a terrorist state – a caliphate.

In 2011, current CIA Secretary and then-White House counterterrorism adviser John Brennen called fears of a terrorist caliphate “absurd” and a “feckless delusion.” Who’s feckless now?

But quiescence is one thing; callous disregard is another. And that’s what this president is showing the genocide in Iraq.

No one wants to re-engage in Iraq, but if not us, then who? If not now, when? This is a preventable slaughter, playing out in slow motion in front of all our eyes.

The president is no doubt further loath to go back in after claiming mission accomplished and pulling out – perhaps letting personal pride or reputation interfere with good judgment, while ignoring the rather obvious point that a war does not end simply because one side lays down arms.

Moreover, he now bizarrely tries to claim no part in the decision to leave Iraq – so much for “the buck stops here” – while still boasting repeatedly that he ended the war.

Such feats of mental gymnastics in the face of people dying are possible only on the decks of a rudderless and listing foreign policy ship.

This president’s detachment even gives “bystanders” a bad name, as many of them are willing to step in when needed.

Obama has intentionally

Obama has intentionally withdraw America from the world stage as the leader of the free world. He does not and has never believed America has the moral authority to lead. This withdraw or hands off approach has set the world on fire because of the vacuum it has created. Our allies can no longer can count on us and our adversaries no longer fear we will react. This is what you get when the faculty of liberal colleges and universities run America. Besides its vacation time again. May God help us!

for the charges of hate.

Matters not that multiple good points were made. They're are some that see no, hear no, feel no evil.

Doesn't matter if some really believe he's just doing what he thinks is best, the results of his actions are detrimental to this country and the world.

You can say he's in over his head. Unprepared when he entered and showing no growth as a leader. A few before him entered unprepared, but by and large they grew as a leader. Obama has stagnated, if not regressed.

One has to wonder how history will treat his inadequacy. Will he get a pass merely because of his looks? Short term possibly. But long term, history can't help but be semi-accurate.

Wonder what his golf handicap is? That will be his legacy, along with his looks.

How can you claim to end the war and then deny it. Then answer is simple-Obama is crazy-I mean verifiably mentally ill and a pathological liar. I think once he is out of office just how nutty he is will rank up their with Reagan and his early Alzheimer's.

In 2009 when the ISIS leader was released from a U.S. detention camp in Iraq he told the Long Island, NY reservists in charge of the prison, “I’ll see you in New York.”

Some of the comments are: "

Some of the comments are: " he's in over his head" " Unprepared " "Obama is crazy-I mean verifiably mentally ill " "pathological liar" I would agree with all of these statements however I believe that the driving force is a deep, lifelong hatred for America and all we have stood for. If you study his mentors and the people that shaped his beliefs you will find a militant version of Obama. Obama is trying to accomplish the same goals but using different means.

There is no logic or reason

There is no logic or reason in the man-he is just plain delusional. The only "strategy" he knows is running for president-he doesn't know how to be one. It's like making a violin but not knowing how to play it.

What another excellent editorial that is so spot on...

What another excellent editorial that is so spot on the main stream media would never touch it; however, the accurate assessment written is starting to break through in the media.

I fully agree with every word of each of the comments as well...what thoughtful, well reasoning, well informed, American loving commenters they are.

I would be willing to bet Obama is not receiving the daily presidential briefing provided by the CIA and other intel folks. I bet he is relying on updates from Susan Rice because he does not want to take the time to sit down with the intel person and the "Black Book".

I have been on the receiving end of these briefings and there is no substitute for one...no matter how informed Susan Rice maybe. One gets to go into detail about what, how, and intentions that she would not have. He is known to be lazy in this area and has failed to take these briefings for weeks.

Although Obama does not have time to work on the genocide of Christians in the ME he has time to keep updated about the shooting of one black kid by the police in St. Louis and making it a cause celeb. Yet, he says nothing about the dozens of black youths killed by other blacks monthly in Chicago and other liberal havens of progressivism.

In reality, Obama does not care about the ME. Once he made his apology tour and things began to fall apart later, he found out his Muslim, half-black, smooth talking that had served him so well in the "white guilt" world did not cut the mustard in the ME. When that happened he gave only a cursory facade of interest there.

If something is not directly related to "fundamentally transforming America'' he couldn't care less about it. That is his legacy in his mind...not the degradation of the world through the lack of US involvement in geopolitics. In reality, both will be his legacy and both as a legacy of failure.

Why would Obama take any

Why would Obama take any meaningful action against a group with which he mostly agrees? He and Hillary assisted them in Syria and their same ilk in Libya and Egypt. The only reason he is making a half-fast effort to help the Yazidis is because they are NOT Christian. You did not see any air strikes when they were just executing Christians.

Obama is pathetic. We might as well have the Travelocity Roaming Gnome for president.

If there is such a thing as political ADHD...

If there is such a thing as political ADHD I think Obama is the poster child for it. He never sees anything to it conclusion. His sickopant worshipers contribute this apparent boredom with his brilliance that causes him to get bore so easily because the he is so far ahead of everyone.

He maybe far ahead of the ones in the room with him because none of his advisers we are familiar with are all low-skilled, light weights, who are unprepared for the jobs which they have. There is no maturity in the White House...only progressive acolytes.

corigmom, I noticed you liberals criticized Bush big time because he had an office on his ranch that he worked out of.
Hypocrisy is the claim or pretense of holding beliefs, feelings, standards, qualities, opinions, behaviors, virtues, motivations, or other characteristics that one does not in actual fact hold. It is the practice of engaging in the same behavior or activity for which one criticizes another. In Moral psychology, it is the failure to follow one’s own expressed moral rules and principles.

The leader of the free world

The leader of the free world has put over 1000 American troops in harms way over the last 60 days. One airfield with attack helicopters and attack jets on Iraqi soil. The Pentagon IS preparing.. and most likely has already acted in ways we don't even need to know about. Yes, nosy, you do not have to know EVERYTHING. This will be a specialized operation using kill teams and drones. Just because you may be left out of the loop... so be it. Our prayers and hopes should be with those who will now, right a wrong, by doing exactly what they were trained to do. Defend American interests and those of the civilized world.

Faithson is in the loop!!! Who knew? Not only that but the military strategy is approved by him!! I think the truth is that the Peshmerga, supported by US aircraft have gotten most of the folks off the mountain. This attack on Iraq by ISIS was known about by Obama for weeks. The time to have ended it was when the advance first stated!

I get so tired of hearing

I get so tired of hearing about 'no plan'... I think that drone strikes to kill the leadership of our arch enemy IS done under the guise of a 'plan'. I pray that these 1000 soldiers in country, are part of the ongoing 'plan' to elevate the leadership of our arch enemy in the group known know as ISIS.
