The scandals are real

It's the president's skewed perception of them that's 'fabricated'

  • Follow Editorials

And you thought this president couldn’t get any more outrageous?

President Obama has dismissed the very real, very chilling improprieties of his administration as “phony scandals” and “fabricated issues” geared toward “ginning up” conservative voters.

That’s right. According to him, the aberrations spawned by his imperial presidency – the Fast and Furious scandal, the Benghazi cover-up, IRS intimidation, deaths at Veterans Affairs hospitals, the Bergdahl POW fiasco – are all just one big Republican-concocted ruse.

So move along, the godhead of the American left says. There’s nothing to see here. And pay no attention to what’s behind the curtain as you move past.

In case you missed the president’s comments, made ironically in Minnesota during a two-day trip to “gin up” liberal voters, here they are:

“Sometimes the news that’s being reported on is really important. I mean what’s happening in Iraq is relevant. But sometimes the news that’s coming off, these are just Washington fights. They’re fabricated issues, they’re phony scandals that are generated. It’s all geared toward the next election or ginning up a base. It’s not on the level, and that must feel frustrating. It makes people cynical, and it makes people turned off from the idea that anything can get done.”

“Outrageous” isn’t a strong enough word to describe this chief executive. Shameless? Disgraceful? Atrocious?

Imagine being the parents of Brian Terry, the U.S. Border Patrol agent killed with one of the Fast and Furious guns the Obama administration approved for sale to Mexican drug lords. Could this president look them in the eye and tell them their son died over a “fabricated issue”?

Could he tell Pat Smith, mother of slain State Department official Sean Smith, that his death at the hands of terrorists in Benghazi was part of a “phony scandal”?

Could he tell all the Americans whose free speech was gagged by partisan IRS bureaucrats just before the 2012 presidential election to stop being “cynical”?

Could he tell the loved ones of all the veterans who died while languishing on secret waiting lists at VA hospitals that their rage isn’t genuine – that it’s geared toward “ginning up a base”?

Of course he couldn’t. But it’s easy enough to say in a Minneapolis park before a crowd of fawning reporters still captivated by his signature cool and populist-yet-vacant rhetoric.

But that pixie dust may be wearing off. Even reliably leftist members of the mainstream media are tired of shaking pom-poms for a president so petulant, dictatorial and opaque.

CNN’s John King, Time magazine’s Mark Halperin and former AP Washington bureau chief Ron Fournier all have chided their colleagues for under-reporting Obama administration scandals in recent months.

Media Research Center President Brent Bozell said he believes the president senses his shtick is wearing thin with reporters, and that he’s hoping to keep what has been a mostly compliant media on a leash.

“What he’s trying to do is intimidate the press. What’s happening right now is you’ve got liberal reporters ... who are coming forward saying to their industry, enough is enough,” Bozell said on Fox News’ The Kelly File. “You’ve got to start covering these scandals. This is bigger than Richard Nixon. And they’re nowhere to be found. And that’s what Barack Obama is seeing and that’s why he’s going after the press. He sees the cracks.”

The U.S. economy he pledged to fix continues to stagnate under his policies. His foreign policy, or lack thereof, has made the world a more dangerous place and more hostile to American interests. The judicial and legislative branches that his power-mad executive branch has unconstitutionally run roughshod over are pushing back.

Obama’s house of cards is falling all around, and his failures are only getting harder for the media to spin or ignore.

NBC Chief White House Correspondent Chuck Todd declared Obama’s abysmal ratings in a recent NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll was a sign that “essentially the public is saying your presidency is over.”

And there’s still two years to go. What’s next for the commander in chief who already presides over the most scandalous administration in American history? Will he adopt the bunker mentality of Nixon – the second-most scandalous president? Will he tell reporters at some point they “don’t have Barack to kick around anymore”?

Or will he claim to be the victim of a “vast right-wing conspiracy,” as Hillary Clinton did on behalf of her husband – the nation’s third-most scandalous president – during the waning days of his administration?

Really, if President Obama can insinuate his administration’s numerous and deepening scandals are all partisan fabrications being perpetuated by the media, then he’s capable of just about any leap in logic.

And given how far he’s pushed the envelope on propriety, it’s only a matter of time before a new scandal arises that the media must fight to ignore.

Obama continues to act in most public appearances...

Obama continues to act in most public appearances that he is an outsider to Washington, DC and he's going to look out for the people if they would just elect him and send him to DC. You see, he is always in a campaigning mode and never in a governing mode.

Don't write him off as being impotent with his presidency being over. That would be the situation with a "normal" president who has respect for the Constitution. Obama is neither normal nor respectful of the Constitution.

He will try so many executive orders and end runs around Congress that it will make our heads swim. The wheels of government to stop him will grind slowly and he will be long gone before anything happens.

Impeachment? Forget it. There is no way anybody will impeach the first black president.

Two of the biggest impediments to reigning in Obama are Harry Reid and the other leftist senators and the always loyal and compliant incompetent Eric Holder. Both of them can clog of the works for years and can't be forced to tackle anything to harm or slow down the leftist pursuit to radicalize America.

We are dealing with the type of person which we have never seen in American politics and we will suffer for decades if not until the end of the Republic as a result.

Most scandal-ridden? How silly. Grant? Harding? Nixon? Even if the wild accusations on talk radio and Fox News turn out to be true, which is unlikely, Obama wouldn't even be close to those guys. I thought that conservatives claimed to be students of history. Hmm.
ACES, conspiracy theories aren't scandals until you prove they are true. Policy disagreements aren't scandals. Accusations aren't proof. The increasing tone of desperation in the right wing's attempts to offer these shrill talking points with minimal evidence reflects badly on the right wing, not on Obama.
By the way, Obama is not saint and he is quite capable of producing a scandal, but, if he does, no one, and I mean no one, on the right wing has the moxie, brains, or persistence to prove it. Give it a rest.

Fifth Estate Trumps Fourth

The acquiescence of the press during this administration is mind boggling of historical proportions. Jeffrey R. Immelt, the CEO at GE which formerly owned NBC, made sure incidents that embarrassed Obama were not broadcast. Opinion shows were slanted to ignore negatives. One NY Times editor, under pressure, admits they may have been a little slow to pick up on the IRS scandal, but, get this, she said they would run a story explaining the “heavy politics” of the story. EVERYONE, including Bill and Hillary, knew the truth about Benghazi early on, yet the press allowed the lies to run before the election. In contrast, the endless attacks on Chris Christie show what they do to Republicans. Maybe the leftist media should have to put a disclaimer on all their “hard news” stories that they are biased.

Speak of the devil. I bet

Speak of the devil. I bet that Fox will get a Pulitizer prize, like Bernstein and Woodward for Watergate, because no else is covering all the scandals. The IRS isn't phony scandal that's moronic to state that because the IRS admitted to a criminal act that warranted investigation. "In 2013, the United States Internal Revenue Service (IRS) revealed that it had selected political groups applying for tax-exempt status for intensive scrutiny based on their names or political themes. This led to wide condemnation of the agency and triggered several investigations, including a Federal Bureau of Investigation criminal probe ordered by United States Attorney General Eric Holder."

The VA problem is a real

The VA problem is a real scandal too-a scandal of presidential deceit and incompetence. Obama ran against Bush and criticized him for his handling of the VA. Then when he took office the Bush administration outlined all the problems and made Obama aware of the issues=that he campaigned he would fix. What happened next is he just ignored it, dropped the ball, didn't give a dang, and let it ride. Once whistleblowers exposed the issues then he goes into liar mode-"This is the first I've heard of this", and then into phony scandal mode. But it isn't phony it is fact he was exposed as both deceitful and incompetent. Course that isn't illegal nor if just one incident a big deal, but with all the other denials and deceit, and calling anything against him a "phony scandal" gets a bit old and just unbelievable.

How safe is our govt info=apparently not all and if we were attacked our old technology would make us unable to respond. Who believes that idiotic crap? I mean that's just ridiculous. We didn't get to number 1 by being shoddy and spreading number 2 like Obama.

Does anyone expect a Socialist to follow the US Constitution?

Many Socialist Advancements have been accomplished while we waited on the US Supreme Court to rule. President Obama is getting 1 to 2 years to set up his chess table as he wants and needs.

American needs to wake up and face the fact
A Socialist was elected President.

Even Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev warned us back 1960's.
"You Americans are so gullible. No, you won’t accept communism outright, but we’ll keep feeding you small doses of socialism until you’ll finally wake up and find you already have communism. We won’t have to fight you. We’ll so weaken your economy until you’ll fall like overripe fruit into our hands."

Now think of where the Liberals and Social Democrats have taken the US since the 1990's

Funny in 2008 Obama outlined

Funny in 2008 Obama outlined all the problems with the VA and how he was going to fix them. Now I didn't know anything till I saw it on the news and rather than talking about how he is going to fix it finally he just calls it a phony scandal (hint he isn't going to fix it) and talks about global warming and the war on women. And complain Congress isn't doing anything when all he has to do is ask Reid to bring up the over 200 bills pending sent from the House. It's a ruse so he can use executive privilege. The Senate refuses to act on any bill sent from the House and believes all bills should arise from them.

Regarding Impeachment & Democrats

So Far, only 2 Presidents have been impeached

Andrew Johnson (a lawyer) Democratic Party
and
Bill Clinton (A Lawyer) Democratic Party
have been impeached by the U.S. House of Representatives.

Both were acquitted by the Senate by offered political concession & negotiations.

Special Note:
Andrew Jackson founder of the Democratic Party openly defied the US Supreme Court and avoided Impeachment only because his party controlled both houses. Leaving the US Supreme Court to pound sand without any means of enforcement.

His case was directly related the Georgia and the US approved Treaty with the Cherokee Indians .... Yes a Democrat forced the Trail of Tears on the Cherokee Nation in defiance of the US Supreme Court.

Another example of the treatment of US Minorities by the Democrat Party. eg. Trail of Tears, Slavery, Jim Crown etc.... etc....

Yet minorities continue to flock to the Democrat party that has mistreated them for 100's of years.

Must be the Stockholm Syndrome

Note:
Richard Nixon resigned before he could be impeached.

The Obama administration

The Obama administration makes the Nixon administration look like a bunch of saints. The Obama administration is the most secretive, corrupt administration EVER. I wasn't aware, until yesterday, that the Obama administration had contacted the FOIA attorneys in EVERY GOVERNMENT AGENCY and instructed them that EVERY FOIA REQUEST that involved ANY Obama administration policy had to have the material forwarded to them in Washington for REDACTION before being released to the requestor. EVEN NIXON WOULD NOT DO THAT.

The best way to describe Obama's presidency is that NOTHING IS BETTER......MOST THINGS ARE WORSE......BUSINESSES LEAVING THE COUNTRY IN DROVES......REAL UNEMPLOYMENT LEVELS ARE AT THE HIGHEST SUSTAINED LEVELS EVERY.....THE LABOR PARTICIPATION RATE IS AT THE LOWEST SUSTAINED LEVELS EVER.....FOREIGN POLICY IS IN SHAMBLES.......THE DEBT IS AT RECORD LEVELS AND CLIMBING AT RECORD RATES.....OBAMACARE IS A FINANCIAL AND MEDICAL CARE DISASTER.....AND WE HAVE AN ILLEGAL ALIEN AND SECURITY CRISIS ON OUR SOUTHERN BORDER.

I won't even dwell on the high costs of food and gasoline ALL DUE TO STUPID GOVERNMENT POLICIES ON ETHANOL, ENERGY, AND THE PIPELINE.

What's better.....NOTHING. What's worse......EVERYTHING. Total disaster brought to you by our first communist dictator. And you are just beginning to feel the effects of Obama's incompetence. IT WILL GET WORSE even after he is gone because he has fundamentally transformed the best country, the best economy that had ever existed. You who elected him will pay the price of his disastrous incompetence. And the MIDDLE CLASS will pay the price of his incompetence. And those "rich folks" and corporate CEO's the Democrats have been trying to persecute......they will just yawn and move themselves and their companies overseas. The clean companies and rich folks will go to Europe and the manufacturing facilities will go to China and South America. Fundamental change.......you ain't gonna like it. You are correct to be concerned about the minimum wage because that is what most of you are going to be making for most of your lives. That and welfare is all you've got left to look forward too after Obama's CHANGE.

The problem

The biggest problem I see in America today is the way that all of the so called patriots are attacking our President. They don't try to fix the problems they see. They spend their time on social media behind the safety of their computers, calling the President the most horrific names and throw out "facts" derived from sources that are not anything other than compiled lies.

No one on these pages ever gives suggestions as to how things should be actually changed. Sure, you go on and on about impeaching the President and I guess you all think that is the one and only answer.

I am not quite sure why it is not illegal for you to call the President a communist, a liar, etc. As for me, I find it reprehensible.

Get up off your behinds and work on something that will actually change our country for the better and quit with the constant attacks on liberals. We are here to stay.

History you accuse others of

History you accuse others of lies, but it is Obama who is a bone fide liar. I don't Obama has been called nearly the names that Bush has been called. And I think both Bush and Obama deserve to be called bad names personally-they both are criminals. Harry Reid called all the people complaining about their insurance either being cancelled or increased as liars-so if politicians can do it why not citizens? I offered solutions and wanted to run as President Bizarro with a cabinet of conservatives and liberals. LOL.

I have been voting since 1976 and have never missed an election. I just wanted to make that clear before answering your query.

Unfortunately our country has not been made better by our President. Neither was it made better under his immediate predecessor. You mention Iraq and Afghanistan. If President Bush had not taken our troops into these two countries then we would not be dealing with many of the problems we are facing. Now President Obama has to get us out. I think that many would agree that we need to end this "War on Terrorism" in the middle east and take care of our own home front. It has accomplished nothing to make us safer and in fact has increased our vulnerability. I'm not going to blame the current President for fixing what was broken before his administration.

As for the immigrant situation in our country, not one President, going all the way back to Regan, has done anything to fix the issue. Therefore I can't blame the current President for that either. I do blame him for not instituting an idea that would work and I believe there are several ideas out there that could fix the situation.

As far as all of the "scandals" here are my thoughts. First and foremost I do not think that the IRS targeted just the right wing groups. I'm not going to copy and paste articles here to defend my point, but they are out there if someone wants to read them. Our country has been flooded with so called political groups who are in fact fronts for raising non-taxable money. They need to be reigned in. Whether left or right, conservative or liberal, they do not need to steal our hard earned money to further their own agenda. Benghazi was a travesty by any definition. I do not understand why our people were left so defenseless in a hostile area. However, I do not think there is any huge "conspiracy theory" behind that incident. It was just plain bad planning. This administration does not seem to understand that basic fact and it ticks me off royally.

I do not believe in any way that President Obama is a dictator. For anyone who truly believes that, they should read up on current and past dictators around the globe. I do not believe that our citizens would ever allow that to happen, regardless of the fear mongering that is put out by many right wing groups.

We must quit attacking those who think differently. We MUST pull together as a nation. This has always worked in the past and it can work now.
