Don't let failings of Benghazi, memory of slain Americans slip away

  • Follow Editorials

There’s not much reason to remember James Wilson Nesbitt of Augusta. He certainly wasn’t able to accomplish much in his seven weeks and two days of life that ended in January 1803 when he followed his young mother Mary to the other side.

But their husband and father made sure they were remembered to this day, if you stop to read the inscription in the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Cemetery.

It would be easy, 211 years later, to say, “What, at this point, does it matter?”

It would also be callous and absurd. It mattered to Hugh Nesbitt. It matters to caring eyes that light on their gravesite. It matters to posterity. All lives have meaning.

So it is all the more disturbing that, after Hillary Clinton once asked “What, at this point, does it matter?” of how the Benghazi attacks took four American lives in 2012, that another Obama administration official would now add this little gem:

“Dude, this was, like, two years ago.”

That was former National Security Council Tommy Vietor’s explanation for why he can’t remember what role he might have played in writing the administration’s deceitful cover-up “talking points” in the incident.

Disgusting. Disgraceful. Reprehensible.

In an interview on Fox News, about the only news outlet covering this scandal, Vietor was every bit as bristly and antagonistic as his superiors. They may not like Fox News, because it’s the only news network holding the Obama administration accountable, but such a flippant attitude in a matter that resulted in four American deaths and innumerable unanswered questions is completely inappropriate, inexcusable and contemptible.

We also have a hard time believing the young man can’t remember his role in trying to clean up after a terrorist attack on our consulate in Libya – surely the biggest news item on his short watch.

Even more peevish and insufferable is White House spokesman Jay Carney, who appears to be lying about lying at this point.

The goofy narrative out of Carney’s mouth now is that the recently released email that proved the White House was involved in the bogus Benghazi cover story actually wasn’t about Benghazi at all; it was about protests in the Muslim world, generally, he claims.

One problem with that: It’s a circular argument that loops right back to the White House. Carney is arguing that the protest cover story – which the government itself fabricated – is proof that they weren’t talking about a terror attack in Benghazi.

Well, duh! That was the point of the protest cover story – to avoid talking about the truth, which was a terror attack.

Moreover, to further his argument that the administration was talking about the protest story in the email, Carney pointed to the network Sunday news shows at the time – which advertised themselves as talking not about a terror attack, but about protests in the Mideast.

Well, duh! The networks were regurgitating the same protest cover story the administration itself concocted!

Of the Obama administration’s desperate Benghazi spin, U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina said this week that “I think it’s an insult to the intelligence of the American people and quite frankly, a disservice and disrespect to those who sacrifice their life in service of their country ...”

Agreed.

They want you to forget the names of U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens; information management officer Sean Smith; and security officers Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty. Dude, that was, like, two years ago!

Two years or 200 years. Let us not forget.

Dude!

What difference, at this point, does it make?!

Dude? ... This was like? and this from former National Security spokesman for the White House. That dude is simply embarrassing. This whole WH defense is embarrassing!

David Burge (iowahawk) nailed it:
Friend: Where's the 20 bucks you owe me?
Me: Those numbers are in dispute.
Friend: Here's the signed IOU.
Me: I disagree.

Where Was Obama That Night?

Is the truth finally starting to reach the liberals about Benghazi? I was stunned when the ABC reporter went after Jay Carney at the press conference on the matter. Later Chris Matthews also said the best thing for the administration would be to bring everything into the open. He said a cover-up is like trying to hide a dead fish. It ends up stinking worse. Of course, one of the liberal panelists, David Corn, said it’s all the Republicans trying to besmirch the administration. With most administration supporters they use the line that it’s only Republicans trying to make trouble. They turn it into a personal attack on anyone who brings up Benghazi.

Ok, let's play the silly

Ok, let's play the silly liberal game. Every body was confused and the CIA initially reported it was a demonstration due to a video. Three days later Hillary Continue told that tale to the families of the dead. Sept 16 Susan Rice goes on national TV and lies. Then Sept 25 Obama gives a UN speech that referenced the video . Meanwhile in the real World the prime minister of Libya reported no demonstrations but a coordinated terrorest attack on Sept 12. Military analysts had reported it was a well organized coordinated attack a day or so after it happened. How stupid is the Obama White House. "Hey, like dude, I know the Prime Minister of Lybia says no Demonstrations, and military analyst think it was a coordinated attack. BUT, like dude, it really had to be a demonstration like, right huh? WOW,good stuff in the bong today "

The Dominoes Are Falling

A key official in the WH is now reporting that Obama NEVER reported to the Situation Room when contacted. This official was present that night and he affirmed Obama was not concerned enough about it. The dead fish Riverman referred to is really starting to stink now.

Have y'all noticed...

Have y'all noticed the caliber of spokespeople this administration puts before the cameras? They all look like fraternity boys and sorority girls with no experience in the real world. They are indicative of the immaturity and inexperience of the entire administration.

It was funny watching the

It was funny watching the expressions on Vietor's face. Then treating the whole Benghazi attack and his efforts as just mundane bureaucratic stuff that he doesn't remember anything about. But what a lame argument, in essence, he is saying he is incompetent (because someone in that position is suppose to know). I guess next will be hey dude I'm just a young punk and I don't remember cause I'd been smoking my legal medical pot in DC. The kid just rolled his eyes whimsical that he was being asked a tough question and shrugged them off as no biggie-it was no problem to him that these folks died-just Hilary didn't care either lied to mother's face and then states "what difference does it make now". That is another one of those stupid comments that will go down in history with "we have to pass the bill to see what's in it". Gosh Dems don't have a brain in their head-sadly they all think they do and they are superior. Delusional.

Know what Tommy's first job with Obama was?..

Know what Tommy's first job with Obama was? He was a van driver for him when Obama was a senator.

This fellow who was the source of the memo causing the uproar? Think he's got military or foreign affairs? Nope. He has a degree in creative writing and was a speechwriter for Obama. As a matter of fact, he wrote Obama's Cairo speech in which he gave credit to Islam for things Islam had not done and apologized for America's past actions.

These two are examples of why Obama's foreign policy doctrine is a schambles....not to mention Obama himself. The unqualified incompetent surrounded by unqualified incompetents.

Lying O and his lying O'phants

an overall pattern of incompetence and arrogance
they really believe the world "has been waiting for them"
yet O and the O'phants are utter failures
but there are so many failures, foreign and domestic
where does one focus? they can't all be investigated at the same time
and O and the O'phants will never understand their incompetence
but perhaps they can understand their basic lying
their audacity in telling lies- their audacious lies
about the IRS, the Keystone pipeline... there are so many
Benghazi is the most audacious and disrespectful to those that protect us
eventually they'll all be investigated, and the truth won't set them free

Every time Carney or another Obama appointee gets on TV it really makes you wonder. Do they really believe the crap that comes out of their mouth's? Do they really think anyone believes what they're saying? Watching them really drives home how incompetent the whole bunch really is starting with the liar in chief.

I have a question.

The Benghazi conspiracy theory is that there was a "cover-up" by the Obama administration and the media.

A "cover-up" of what, exactly?

Oh, Fox News.

The news television channel where it's NOT okay to say "dude, this was like, two years ago", but it IS okay to say "know your role and shut your mouth" to a woman, and then ask her "what, are you going to cry?", which Eric Cunningham did to Tamara Wilson in June 2013.

Dang Karradur drink a few

Dang Karradur drink a few more cups of coffee. You usually offer better arguments than that. We all have off days. The bipartisan committee has already demonstrated the administration was incompetent in how it handled Benghazi-so the Obama administration was touting the rhetoric of terrorism on a decline and superior achievements and we know they grossly mishandled this-the committee was quite harsh with its findings. Obama mislead Americans for political gains which isn't a crime (now if this new Congressional committee can get him to perjure himself under oath lying about Benghazi-then score impeachment time.) It just demonstrates he is a pathological liar and he has no credibility because you can't believe a word that comes out of his mouth, nor believe any information that his administration presents-it is all likely fabricated or manipulated. He has lost the trust of most Americans polls indicate-he could become a lame duck president. If the media did their job he would be.

Yeah, I'd agree Karradur

Yeah, I'd agree Karradur needs more coffee....first off it's Bill Cunningham (not Eric). It was Tamara who told Bill to shut up first and he repeated the statement and told her to know her role (which could mean anything) but really is neither here nor there because both were rude and insulting to each other.

As for a grown man saying "dude", I believe should be left to juvenile young boys. Not appropriate language coming from an educated grown man.

If I had a choice of being

If I had a choice of being called a "dude" or "scumbag", I would choose "dude" every time.

I, too, am still trying to figure out what is the "crime" related to the Benghazi talking points. Chris Matthews was not saying that the WH had done anything wrong but that knowing the DC climate, they should have released the email so that there would be no appearance of hiding anything.

Let's face it, if this WH says that tomorrow will be Sunday, that fact rises to the level of scandal to conservatives because they didn't say it is the first Sunday in May 2014!

Democrats had better learn to fight nasty like the GOP or they, nor this country, will ever have any peace.

Truth Matters, I keep

Truth Matters, I keep wondering why some people don't think repeated lies and repeated lying to us by our President is OK! Think how ignorant and stupid we look to the rest of the world. Most foreign leaders had a better idea of what went on in Benghazi than our president appeared to have. Benghazi is part of a mosaic of Obama. Putin and other world leaders have figured out he is weak and lacks conviction. The Ukrainians are paying a price for this weakness and the American policy in the Mid East is in taters. Our allies don't trust us because Obama has shown to be untrustworthy to the people he governs and the rest of the world. There does that help you understand "TRUTH Matters"?

For the Democrats to fight as nasty as the GOP, they'd have to scale back on their own nastiness exponentially, by a factor of at least five hundred to a thousand.

And that is a very conservative estimate.

Kar - Talking about a cover-up of all the efforts of the OzBama administration to deny the public their right to know what happened.

And a cover-up to deny the rights of those murdered to see justice done in their behalf.

And a cover-up to deny the families and survivors of those who were murdered, the facts surrounding their unnecessary deaths.

Just for starters, Kar. Any more questions?
