A North Carolina-based newspaper chain, Civitas Media, is building a state-by-state database on concealed-weapons permit holders, according to an internal email obtained by a state firearms association.
The company has not said if it actually will publish the database, which would be similar to the controversial project a New York newspaper carried out in 2012. But some gun-rights advocates believe Civitas wouldn’t go through the trouble of amassing data it doesn’t plan to use.
It might provide criminals a road map of homes to target and avoid. But really – where’s the value in gathering data on people engaged in this particular legal activity?
