Another victory for life

Upheld Texas abortion law protects unborn and the will of the people

  • Follow Editorials

In his 1996 presidential campaign, Bill Clinton said he thought abortion in this country should be safe and rare, although he did virtually nothing on the latter count.

Now, 17 years later, abortion is neither safe – especially for the infant whose life is being snuffed out – nor rare.

Take the case of Kermit Gosnell, the Philadelphia doctor convicted earlier this year of snipping the spinal cords of three infants who survived abortions. He also was convicted of manslaughter in the death of a woman who underwent an abortion in his clinic. Gosnell said that he believed he was fighting poverty by providing abortions to poor women. A strange way to fight poverty: kill the children of the poor.

Gosnell escaped the death penalty by agreeing not to appeal his conviction. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Jurors said the trial’s appalling images, including jars of fetus body parts, and graphic testimony took a heavy emotional toll on them.

Advocates of abortion would have us believe that the Gosnell case is a rare exception. But how are we to know?

That’s why the Texas legislature passed a bill requiring that abortion providers have a doctor with admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles of their clinics. It also prohibits most abortions after the 20th week of a pregnancy, when scientific evidence shows the infant is able to feel pain.

Last week the U.S. Supreme Court voted, 5-4, not to block implementation of the law while it is on appeal before the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans.

That’s as it should be. Too often courts at both the state and federal level have stepped in to halt laws, frequently abortion laws, passed by elected representatives. If anything, the courts should respect the will of the people over those, such as Planned Parenthood, that have a vested interest.

The Texas law gained national attention when Democratic state senator Wendy Davis successfully filibustered against it, blocking a vote before the legislature’s adjournment deadline. Gov. Rick Perry brought the lawmakers back for a special session, and the law was passed.

Davis, who is now running for governor, said in an interview with The Weekly Standard that she was unaware of what had happened in the Gosnell case. Although that’s inexcusable, it’s not terribly surprising. The case did not get widespread coverage in the mainstream media. After all, this was not about Sandy Hook or Columbine.

The Guttmacher Institute, which supports abortion rights but whose statistics are considered reliable, reported in 2011 that 50 million abortions were performed in the United States from 1973, when the Supreme Court issued its landmark Roe v. Wade decision, through 2008, the latest year for which it had statistics. In that last year, 1.2 million abortions were performed. At that rate, we’ve likely exterminated in the past five years at least another 6 million children – nearly 3,300 a day – who will never laugh or sing, feel the sunshine on their faces or sit on Santa’s lap.

How many inventors, doctors, artists, scientists and Nobel laureates were among them?

We will never know.

One question;

During every shooting, especially mass shootings; the left wants to talk about gun control, saying "We must do something to protect the children." So they take a case of an individual, crazed person and try to legislate ALL our rights, upon this persons actions; or the actions of a VERY FEW!!

Those leftists that support this; would you also supporting shutting ALL abortion clinics down, because of the actions of a few, such as Gosnell?

Abortion is wrong on so many levels. Unfortunately, the only way to correct it permanently is a Constitutional Amendment.

Since when has not knowing something and being totally ignorant

stopped a politician from jumping on a bandwagon and leading a parade for some cause they thought would gain them votes?

So many politicians claim to be Christians yet they favor abortions. Obama is one of the most ardent supporters of abortion we have ever had at the federal level yet pastors and churches rally and support him just because he is black.

If there is any race that should be against abortion it is the black race because it is losing ground as far as population growth is concerned. The problem is the out of wedlock births which are around 70%. There's no telling what it would be if they did not abort such a large percentage of pregnancies. In NYC over 50% of the abortions are on blacks.

Some do it because they don't think they can't raise a child in poverty. The thing to do is to change the culture and for people to graduate from school, get a job, get married, and then have children in that sequence. The poverty rate for married black couples is less than 10%.

We need to stop killing babies of all races. They are God's children from the moment of conception...not some "tissue mass".

Abortion is just another

Abortion is just another extreme example of how ruthless and uncompassionate our society has become. You get an unwanted pregnancy from irresponsible behavior? Don't worry about it, just kill it!! You want to have fun and party all the time; doing large amounts of drugs and alcohol (Hello Casey Anthony), go ahead; and if you get pregnant, don't worry about it, just kill it!!

But, of course for leftists to push their gawdless agenda, they need a clever disguise to confuse the people with. On this topic, it's all about "women's rights", a woman's right to choose!! They HAVE to appear to be compassionate!! They simply can NOT reveal the true barbarians they really are!! They have to pass themselves off as the "real compassionate crew", using disguises.

2nd Corinthians 11:14 "And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light."

Christ is our light!! Now, look up the word "transformed" in the Ancient Greek, which this scripture is written. You will find the word means DISGUISED!!! So Satan is disguised as an angel of light, when he is really the prince of darkness.

But Paul was teaching us not to marvel, or be amazed at this. Why? Because it's their MO!! It's absolutely nothing new; it's been the MO of Satan and those who follow his lead, for ever!!

The scripture right before this one is talking about the "ministers".

2nd Corinthians 11:13 "For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ."

Well, there we go again; disguising themselves as ministers of Christ. Did you know the man who founded the "Freedom from Religion Foundation" is a "pastor"? This is an organization which FIGHTS Christianity at every corner!! Yet, this man calls himself a "pastor".

2nd Corinthians 11:15 "Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works."

So, it's not great thing (or amazing thing) to see Satan's ministers, disguising themselves as ministers of righteousness.

So, let me ask a pretty simple question. Who does the most harm against Christianity? One, like many posters on here; who demeans, belittles and makes fun of Christianity? Or one who CLAIMS to be Christian, and CLAIMS their version of Christianity is more PURE and compassionante, and tells other Christians their "old beliefs" are outdated and inaccurate? A "Christian" who tells us a "womans right" to kill an unborned child is important. I believe the one who does more damage is the one who CLAIMS to be Christian.

Matthew 7:16 "Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?"

Grapes do NOT grow on thorn bushes nor figs on thistles bushes!!! And Christians do NOT fight against Christianity!! Christians do NOT support the murder of innocent, unborn children!! So, if you hear a "Christian" supporting abortion, you SHOULD know exactly who they are.

Matthew 7:20 "Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them."

Now, they are also going to LIE about me and others, saying we want to FORCE an established religion on them; when nothing could be farther from the truth. I believe in FREE WILL and FREE WILL LOVE; which is exactly what He wants!! He doesn't want your FORCED love and obedience.

Wait......am I judging people?

Absolutely NOT!! Whether their souls are in danger of destruction is NOT my business.

But I will certainly DISCERN right from wrong in this lifetime; using the advice given to us ALL, by Jesus Christ Himself!!

The Ignorant

The ignorant do not understand how the Dr Gosnell's of the world can

conduct such gruesome & ghoulish practices so freely .

The fact is that the abortion industry is no way connected to the

medical industry .

In terms of standards , inspections , qualifications .

In many states the requirements imposed on veterinary clinics

are much more stringent than those placed on abortion mills .

There is nothing against judging someone.

The key part of this is that you are willing to be judged by the same standards. This is perhaps the most misquoted subject in the Bible and usually used when someone is wanting to justify some deviant behavior.
Just look at the first few verses of Matthew Chapter 7.

You know why it's not "rare."
Unpublished

As long as rape exists, as long as there are coercive relationships, and as long as so many people are too damn stupid to choose their partners wisely, this will not be a rare thing. Religion doesn't help, and may even make matters worse. Just tell kids the truth when they're coming up, beginning with what sex is for and why we, as animals, are so driven to do it. You should also consider universal access to contraception as a smart social investment towards a healthier future tax base.

tired of hearing this topic over and over. It's not a baby until later in the pregnancy. period. It's not it's own life until it could possibly survive on it's own outside of the womb. All of you want to force someone to have the child but after it's out you don't care about someone taking care of it so don't bring your religion into it.

We have, above, the usual verbal swing at the 'left', the usual one-eyed, one size fits all opinions, the usual sanctimonious comments.

That's to be expected here.

And we can wonder if 'Dr.' Gosnell got off too easy.

This, however, "6 million children – nearly 3,300 a day – who will never laugh or sing, feel the sunshine on their faces or sit on Santa’s lap.

"How many inventors, doctors, artists, scientists and Nobel laureates were among them?

"We will never know." is intended to solicit guilt from all of us who are not total anti-abortionist.

Perhaps it is the writer(s) own guilt we are supposed to feel?

If the last sentences of the editorial read 'just look at how many aborted fetuses will not be sucking on the government tit' can we wonder just what the above commenters would say?

Are they not the same ones who bemoan social security, medicare, public housing, "Obama care" or other government assistance programs for those who weren't aborted - whom 'god' has 'blessed' less?

Dee some Christians don't

Dee some Christians don't personally support abortion but just give Caesar his due. Likely the same population that support Obamacare and freebies also want to maintains abortions to rid themselves of any responsibility-after all they can't even take care of themselves. Rather than fight the law my strategy is to change people's hearts-maybe we can gain momentum to change the law as a form of birth control. That was never the intention. It is morally wrong, being a liar is too-and there are no repercussions for that either. There are instances that abortion is a medical necessity, but it isn't a license to kill or a form of birth control. If America were a moral nation then abortion would be legally available just little availed.

Ain't it funny how closer we get to "democracy" the smarter the

Founding Fathers were in establishing a Republic and fearing democracy. If people would study the French Revolution they would see what happens when "democracy" runs while.

dahreese, Are you saying that population control is good "reason" for abortion? I will grant you the premise that many who were aborted would have been on the welfare rolls and sucking on the governments teats. What needs to be done is to change the culture where children out of wedlock is an excuse for ostrasizating and shame rather than something to be proudly accepted. Some even idolize "single mothers" as something special when in reality they should be looked down upon in some ways. Particularly those who have multiple children by multiple sperm donors. One of the reasons you are seeing many hyphenated names on the backs of football jerseys is to recognize both the mother and the father who were not merried. There's much in that question, "Who's your daddy?" as to what it means to the culture.

Actually, I'm sure this answer will surprise you but YES, he is!! He was another SOUL that God created, a very long time ago.

These flesh bodies, were made in the image of God and the Angels; so they possess bodies with arms, legs, head, hair, etc.

The MAIN difference in the two bodies, is one is corruptible and mortal, and the other is incorruptible and immortal!! (1st Corinthians 15:53). But as far as LOOKS goes, they look pretty much identical to what we have now; they just don't get disease, sickness, or injured.

Actually, he lives in heaven; where Michael is keeping a close eye on him until a certain time.

Is that really your excuse for the killing of millions of unborn children? Because it can be looked at both ways, and therefore can be considered a good thing from the other point of view? If this Country conducted it's business the way it should; AND the way it should have the last 100 years; we would have PLENTY of jobs for all those unborn children who have been ruthlessly killed!!

I've been involved in case of feticide!! I've listened to the testimony of doctors; explaining how the child felt everything and fought for it's last breath!! You will NEVER convince me that killing these little children isn't brutal MURDER!!! On dumb animals would do such a thing, and we are NOT dumb animals as some would like to advocate!!!

Women should know by three weeks wheather they are pregnant or not!! I would WHOLE-HEARTEDLY suggest that they take the morning after pill, OR TAKE PRECAUSIONS that have been arround for over 40 years!!!!

Politics aside,

Abortion is wrong on every level. There is not one single instance where abortion should be acceptable. It is murder no matter how the Left sugar coats it. Just take a look at Tim Tebow's story-a doctor telling his mother that their fifth child might cause her to pass away from complications at birth. She defies the doctors, has her child, and some 20 years later you have a heisman trophy winner and an excellent role model.
I wonder what the fetus would say if you could ask them what they thought about abortion?

Abortion Is....

...just another means of birth control for the lazy, the stupid, the selfish, and the unprincipled. That it is legal in this Country is a sin for which there is no rational excuse.

Millions of souls of slaughtered innocents look down upon us, with God, and are disgusted and ashamed of what American citizens have become.

We will receive our just rewards for this abomination. The only real question is when.
