Global warming alarmists worry that word's not getting out

  • Follow Editorials

Environmental journalists recently gathered to discuss, in part, whether the media have been “under-reporting and downplaying the seriousness of the threats of global warming.”

Really? They’ve got to be kidding. What part of “Flat Earth Society” – the usual invective hurled at global warming skeptics – do they think we don’t understand?

They’ve predicted coastal destruction, bigger and more frequent hurricanes, zero polar ice by 2013 – and on and on and on.

To suggest the media have downplayed the global warming threat is laughable.

The truth is quite the opposite: It isn’t the Earth that’s becoming overheated so much as the rhetoric.

Besides, the truth is, global warming alarmists don’t want a debate. Environmental groups even wrote to the heads of news networks earlier this year to complain that global warming skeptics were being given too much deference.

Silencing dissent and doubt is no way to win an argument or win over converts.

We encourage man-made global warming
adherents to cool down their rhetoric, acknowledge the evidence to the contrary and simply go about refuting it.

Calmly, civilly, confidently and with facts.

Kind of like a scientist does.

"And now it's global COOLING! Return of Arctic ice cap as it grows by 29% in a year533,000 more square miles of ocean covered with ice than in 2012
BBC reported in 2007 global warming would leave Arctic ice-free in"

Date is like history, it can be distorted in order to make the point that you want to make!! Very similar to many of "the so-called" facts that are presented by both sides of the politics!

The point is, the ice caps

The point is, the ice caps are bigger. The only thing distorted is the ice.

Or are you implying that they are lying about the size of the ice caps?

As HA would say, sheesh.

During the age of the

During the age of the dinosaurs sea levels were much higher in North America such it was divided into two-an ocean ran through the Dakotas, Nebraska, Kansas, through Texas. It was that way for about 80 million years. It has only looked like the present North America the last 2 million years. Without doubt sea level will rise and fall again, the continents will shift, and we will have global climate change. We have a "history" of it.

I saw that Karen had dissipated. In my opinion, we have to look at the green-house gas problem and air polution as a long term problem WHICH NEEDS to be dealt with!

Man made global warming is a hoax!

A few facts for our duped friends who believe it to be an threat:

CO2 is only 4/10th of one percent of the atmosphere. Fourth in volume by Nitrogen (70.084%), Oxygen (30.946%), and Argon (0,934%).

The amount of CO2 put into the atmosphere by man is the equivalent to the thickness of a piece of tile on the first floor of a 100 story building.

There is no proof that increased CO2 precedes and causes warming. There is evidence that increased CO2 FOLLOWS warming.

There has been many more times the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere in distance history.

Water vapor has much more influence on the weather and climate than anything else.

There are more scientists who are degreed in climate related fields who do not believe in man made global warming than do. Many of the "scientists" who sign these letters supporting man made global warming have degrees in nothing to do with climate.

It is not about anything but power. See all the effort to take from the producers, be they individuals or countries, and give to the nonproducers.

I know I'm wishfully thinking, but for those who want to learn an opposing view point from the scare tactics of the global warmists read the book, "The Politically Incorrect Guide to Global Warming and Environmentalism".

GLOBAL ANYTHING
Unpublished

Obama and his surrogates at the EPA have done everything in their power to destroy the coal industry in America. He's caused the shutdown of numerous coal fired power plants raising the energy costs of all Americans. Globally China and India keep churning out more pollution than we do but our costs are rising. Because we cannot control what others countries are doing why should Americans shoulder the costs of other countries actions. Al Gore and others of his ilk have made themselves wealthy pushing carbon credits on our country. It's all a sham and like everything else just follow the money.

Does not history show us that more advancements have been made

by man when the climate is warmer than when it is colder?

What is the "ideal" temperature of the earth anyway?

The 1950s had more hurricanes than anytime in modern US history and some forecasters are predicting we are about to enter another cycle of hurricanes like that time period.

As with many other things, the power hungry alarmists fail to look at history and see cycles in weather patterns. If the think at all, they want to think history began the day they were born.

Cycles

If you look at history you'll see that polar ice caps, storms and weather go's in cycles. Normally about a 30 to 100 year cycle. People who want to make money, by lecturing, selling papers, getting grants for study or selling books are the Chicken Littles of the world. Without all they hype, they wouldn't get the money!! While some current environmental effects are proven, nothing as drastic as what some have predicted will come about soon.. Remember all the hype for the millenium, the beginning of the year 2000? Nothing happened!!!

Well even if we knew with

Well even if we knew with absolute impunity that "man-made global warming" marks disaster, without a "global mankind" effort to address the issue just the US doing something unilaterally is useless. A global effort isn't going to happen. Even if it did happen the Genie is outta da bottle and even a global effort will likely do little. Scientist are often wrong about some of their predictions too so I am really hoping these guys are a bunch of idiots, because otherwise it's going to get really bad. Maybe North America will split again-we can have two separate countries. Wow this is going to be great-course it's gonna be crowded with all of the Florida population moving north as the oceans absorb Fla. and the Dakotas, Nebraska, Kansas don't have that high a pop-Texas is big though. So we gotta squeeze more folks in with what resources we have let.

Global warming is going to be

Global warming is going to be good because as sea level rises we can just use our technology to adapt to an aquatic environment-grow our food in the oceans, live in the ocean. Apparently govts are experimenting on controlling the weather too so maybe we can have a good weather bubble we live in. No worries we will adapt with disaster-we have the last 200,000 years. We won't fight wars over land it will be over oceans. Gosh sounds like water world. What the heck is wrong with my typing?

I think America would be

I think America would be wiser to adopt strategies to adapt to impending disaster rather than try prevent it since we won't get cooperation to address global warming. Work out models for different scenarios and possible means so that we can increase our chance of survival. A nationwide survivalist effort to provide shelter, decent air and water, grow food and maintain specific species of life to create our own microenvironment. It would have application to nuclear or environmental holocaust and the technology would have a positive economic impact-give Americans assurance we will survive. Right now it is political game with little impact-just a lot smoke and fury. Cap and Trade is an idiotic joke.

We could industrially absorb

We could industrially absorb carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases from the environment and store it in frozen clathrates-frozen carbon dioxide like under our oceans -and ship it to the moon and other nearby planets. We may can use it to colonize other planets later for a source of energy, water, and possible carbon cycle on another planet. The govt plans to address this impeding "doom' is just pathetic. Oceans acidifying because of global warming -dump buffers in global large scale to try and mitigate the pH shift, or use bioremediation to shift the pH. We can generate bacteria that produce huge amounts of carbonic anhydrase which converts the carbonic acid to bicarbonate and buffer the pH. Just like we use in our blood to carry carbon dioxide and buffer pH.

There ain't no impending disaster.

The models used by the alarmists don't even predict what has already happened years after their predictions.

It's all about controlling our lives and taking away individual freedom of choice.

Always remember that no government regulation increases freedom of choice...only restrictions.
