Global warming alarmists worry that word's not getting out

  • Follow Editorials

Environmental journalists recently gathered to discuss, in part, whether the media have been “under-reporting and downplaying the seriousness of the threats of global warming.”

Really? They’ve got to be kidding. What part of “Flat Earth Society” – the usual invective hurled at global warming skeptics – do they think we don’t understand?

They’ve predicted coastal destruction, bigger and more frequent hurricanes, zero polar ice by 2013 – and on and on and on.

To suggest the media have downplayed the global warming threat is laughable.

The truth is quite the opposite: It isn’t the Earth that’s becoming overheated so much as the rhetoric.

Besides, the truth is, global warming alarmists don’t want a debate. Environmental groups even wrote to the heads of news networks earlier this year to complain that global warming skeptics were being given too much deference.

Silencing dissent and doubt is no way to win an argument or win over converts.

We encourage man-made global warming
adherents to cool down their rhetoric, acknowledge the evidence to the contrary and simply go about refuting it.

Calmly, civilly, confidently and with facts.

Kind of like a scientist does.

it's political "science"

60 minutes did a story on disability fraud
last night in the West Virginia Kentucky region
and never once mentioned the word "coal"
the media is just incompetent, or at worst, fraudulent
but i agree with deestafford that at least two pages in our
paper are top notch
"truth is that which conforms to reality, independent of human perception"

More cold records last year,

More cold records last year, fewer warm records! The problem is that the liberal lame stream journo-lists hitched thier Eaton to the "globull "warming comet. That comet is crashing. What do they do now and how to extricate themselves with integrity intact.

I predict in the year 2053

_________________ & all of ______ will die.

Now I can say anything I want to for next 40 years.
If I can get enough people to believe me I can get rich, write books, make TV appearances, charge for speaking engagements, made friends with fading liberals and/or Hollywood stars that want a piece of the action for frame.

The Problem is because we have had so many Dooms Day Prophets crying wolf the last 50 years, what will happen if and when, we do have a REAL dooms day problem.

Since the 1960's they have used.....
Whale, Tuna, snail daters, polar ice, Carbon tax, Ozone Holes, Asteroids for skywatch funding, meteors found on the South Pole for NASA Mars funding, Oceans, Jungle, Rain Forest, Tearing down flood control Dams for Fish breeding spawning and etc.

Here is the deal. Climate

Here is the deal. Climate scientist have said major changes have already occurred and will continue to occur just from present conditions. So what to do? Mitigate and Adapt. Yep they suggest we mitigate and reduce green house gas emissions (although any changes from such actions will take decades if not centuries to have an effect). Adapt to the new extreme in weather conditions-wildlife adapt and we adapt. They offer the option of doing nothing also (you don't hear about that do ya) which saves costs short term, but puts a greater need to adaptive responses of wildlife and people later with greater costs. Now Obama wanted Cap and Trade but what about the progressive beliefs in evolution-why the sudden drop in this mantra. We have no worries because life always evolves and adapts. Right?

Get Me Some Carbon Credits and Fire Up the Grill

I wonder if Al Gore would sell me some of those carbon credits he has so I can use them to fire my grill today? I usually use Kingsford, but I bet Al Gore's are better.

Kind of funny to hear liberals saying they are worried about the future of the planet when they want to run up a huge debt to be paid by our children.

Funny isn't it without that

Funny isn't it without that small percentage of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere there would be no life. Plants and cyanobacteria use that carbon dioxide to make all their organic components and they are the beginning of all food chains. That carbon is cycled through the ecosystem back to the atmosphere. That carbon in the atmosphere was once in your body, and it will return to your body. Its the carbon cycle. It's not a bad guy. There are carbon sinks to absorb and mitigate atmospheric carbon too-the oceans and peat bogs.

True River and trying to

True River and trying to mitigate global warming will be very, very, very expensive too so the experts say. Funny they can imagine catastrophe with global warming but are blind to the catastrophe looming from our debt.

"Environmental journalists recently gathered to discuss, in part, whether the media have been “under-reporting and downplaying the seriousness of the threats of global warming.”"

In my opinion, not only is global warming over-looked, BUT mans negative impact on many facits of the globe!! It should be refered to as "the globe vs. man"!! SO MUCH of the population is much more concerned about money and commerce than the very place we all must call home!! This notion that someday we will live on another planet IS HORSE @#%***&%#!!

I can't tell if this is pro or con for the 60 Minutes story, BUT I saw it as truth!! I think some areas of the country do a much better job at screening people for Soc. Sec. Disability!!

The polar ice cap IS getting smaller which is endangering the polar bears, and the oceans are heating up creating powerfull hurricanes!!

The polar ice caps have grown

The polar ice caps have grown towards the equator and receded at least five times during earth's history due to global climate change. The last ice age started about 2 million years ago and the glaciers have covered and receded North America and dropped sea levels numerous times till the current levels about 20,000 years ago. The ice ages had a huge impact on fauna and flora-animals and us, and plants. With carbon dioxide if you examine long rather than short time scales, you see carbon dioxide started dropping about 400 million ago and has dropped ever since. The rise in short time scales of thousands of years is a hiccup on a large time scale graph that isn't even discernible.
