Breaking bad

Dems happily accept Republicans' offer to play the villain over Obamacare

  • Follow Editorials

Washington, the seat of power for the most powerful nation in history, is both broke and broken.

Led by a Democratic Senate that purposely and unconstitutionally chose not to pass a budget for an entire presidential term, Congress has failed utterly in its most basic duty, which is to structure the federal government’s finances. This is why we’re having a “showdown” at the end of this month; the most reviled, most maligned Congress in our lifetimes couldn’t even agree on a blueprint for spending – and must now pass a temporary “continuing resolution” to keep the lights on into October.

Pray remind us, what are we paying you gilded members of Congress for?

And, oh by the way, does anyone think they’ll have to live with the Obamacare disaster that they’ve carved out for the rest of us? So, not only have they completely failed in their most fundamental tasks, but they’re also likely to protect themselves from our health care fates.

Meanwhile, they even appear unable to simply agree on the emergency spending resolution: Led by kamikaze budget hawk Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, a large faction of Republicans apparently won’t agree to fund the government unless Democrats and President Obama agree to kill their baby, Obamacare, in its crib.

What planet do they think that will happen on?

Look, no one opposes the job-killing Obamacare more than this page. It’s actually inflating health-care costs, sometimes staggeringly – after we were promised the law would bend the cost curve downward. It’s a proven job killer, as companies nationwide are cutting back hours, and likely positions, to avoid hefty Obamacare mandates and fines. It’s also putting the IRS between us and our doctors. What could possibly go wrong there?

Still, this country re-upped for Barack Obama in 2012. In so doing, voters endorsed his disastrous health-care law – and inadvertently, perhaps, signed up for four more years of economic stagnation.

It’s a monumental, historic blunder on our part. But to repeat: This country signed up for this. What makes Ted Cruz or any other Republican think the Democrats are going to cave on this, just to avoid a government “shutdown” that will undoubtedly be blamed on the Republicans? Just about everybody but Cruz knows the last government shutdown in the 1990s was blamed squarely on Republicans, and will be this time as well.

They can argue all they want that it will actually be Obama and the Democrats shutting the government down. Technically, that will be true. But you think the public will care about technicalities when the president trots out all the schoolchildren, veterans and retirees who will be hurt, while he’s cheered on by a left-wing news media?

Not only will Republicans most likely be blamed for any government shutdown, but they also will probably make Obamacare look like an innocent victim in all of this.

Only Republicans would be stupid enough to make Obamacare smell like a rose!

All along, the “news” media will eagerly pass along the absolute fiction, perpetrated by Democrats, that there’s not a dime’s worth of fat that can be cut from the federal budget – and that, therefore, there’s no alternative but to raise the debt ceiling to keep on borrowing and keep on dragging our children to financial ruin.

Set against mean-old Republicans that will be seen as 1) denying people health care and 2) shutting the government down to do it, the Democratic path to financial collapse will be neatly cleared of all undergrowth.

For all their prideful, egocentric, plume-filled preening on the nightly news, our leaders in Washington are destroying this country.

The solution is simple: Just

The solution is simple: Just change the name from Obama care back to The Affordable Health Care Act and no one would care. Our representatives from places like Alabama and Texas just don't want any major piece of legislature as big as social security be credited to any one that looks like our president. Remember, the Rushes and Glenn Becks of the world gave it that name to mock it. Now, I'm sure they regret that, because that's the way it will go down in the history books. There are too many people that will benefit from it to turn back the clock. You noticed no GOP recommended fixing it, just repeal, that tells you something. I noticed Palin is still rambling when she is interviewed. Michelle Bachmann seems to be getting this way too. They seem so frustrated and confused. I am preparing the Hillary train for the next election, toot! toot! Speaking as an independent.

Maybe Putin Could Advise?

I’d concentrate on making union members and other exempt individuals HAVE to be in the game, too. The exemptions are as illegal as having a higher speed limit for them while the rest of us have a lower one on the same highways. Has there ever been such a fiasco?

But the issue of not funding bills is nothing new. Where is the border fence that was passed by Congress? Answer, it was never funded.

Bless his heart, Obama tried to come up with something presidential, but created bedlam. Maybe he should ask Putin what he should do to fix this fiasco?

Even the first sentence is inaccurate. Rome was the most powerful nation in history. Also, the economy has been improving since we started winding down the two wars that began under the previous administration. If republicans had put in as much effort to help make the affordable care act work as they did to try and block it then all this wouldn't be going on today. They would rather protect those who line their pockets than help millions of Americans get healthcare. They should be ashamed and going down in history as obstructionists.

Obama may go down in history for one thing if nothing else. The first President to serve not one, but two terms while NEVER operating under a budget. There's some leadership for you.

Remedial Course For Obama

In an effort to improve Obama’s performance I wonder if we could set up some type general studies presidential leadership program for him? He entered the presidency without the basic academic skills needed to be successful. We all want him to be competent and do well. We could teach him remedial subjects to get him up to the level where he can successfully do presidential work and compete in this world. The basic goal would be if he completes these courses he will then be prepared to perform standard entry level 101 presidential work. Individual, one on one, assistance would be a big part of the program.

"Pray remind us, what are we

"Pray remind us, what are we paying you gilded members of Congress for?"

Answer: Apparently for a grown man to use utilities and staff time paid for by hardworking taxpayers while he reads "Green Eggs and Ham!"

Now when the ACES rips Sen. Cruz for that, you may be able to claim a bit of credibility.

"Cutting fat from the federal

"Cutting fat from the federal budget..."

How about cutting farm subsidies? Many members of congress who are millionaires did not see cuts but Congress cut heavily on SNAP just to address the small amount of fraud. Guess no body thought about better monitoring. That's how you catch cheats. You don't punish everyone for the abuse of a few.

Now when the president made adjustments in Medicare by cutting fraud and waste conservatives excoriated him and said that he cut $17billion from old people.

I have concluded that with all the faults of Dems, Reps are worse and just not honest brokers. They can not be trusted to play fair.

Last point, earlier I said that the reason they are now pushing to delay Obamacare by a year is to flip control so they can repeal ACA. Well I don't claim to be prophetic but Karl Rove and O'Reilley admitted that just a couple of days ago. Again, they won't play fair even if it means the country goes into default.

Cruz

I know teachers who could read a story more effectively than Cruz and they get furloughed, take work home on the weekend and evenings, spend money out of their own pocket; must be teacher, "kiss" boo boos, with none to little clerical help and more. What do they earn? Peanuts compared to this man's salary of nearly $200k with perks a teacher can only dream about.

He hails from a state with one of the largest groups of uninsured and he thinks not of how to make this law work for the people he represents, but to just repeal the law.

Pardon me while I stop to write a check to any body who will run against this man.

Even Supporters Admit

Truth Matters you said, "He hails from a state with one of the largest groups of uninsured and he thinks not of how to make this law work for the people he represents, but to just repeal the law."

See even you admit there are problems with Obamacare. Heck, even Obama knows there are problems and that's why he delayed it a year for many and exempted others. Your solution is we should simply improve it. What if most everything about the law is wrong? Wouldn't it be best to scrap this program and start over with a bipartisan effort?

OK,

Let's say the Repubs back off and pass the budget and leave Obamacare in it! Where will that leave you in a year? You work and your wife works. You will be forced to remove your wife from your insurance because the company she works for also offers insurance. Now the delemna is who covers the children. So you are back to paying for Family Coverage minus your wife who is paying for her coverage separately. But wait, for only doubling your monthly premiums we can also guarantee coverage for all these people who live in government housing, getting freebies from your check already. Employers can't afford to offer insurance to part time high school employees, so we don't hire these kids, giving them work experience, and instead hire older workers but only give them 24 hours a week so we don't have to provide insurance for them also. Guess what, now you get to pay their premiums too!! Isn't Obamacare GREAT!!! What a country, Thank you Mr. Putin, I mean Obama!!

The sky is falling!

Every week, there is a new crisis announced in this column, on Fox News, and by all the talk radio pundits. Every week, we are told that the sky is falling. We've been hearing it for 8 years. Every week, we've been told that the U.S. is going to collapse completely if the purest of the pure Republicans don't get their way. It's all so theatrical, so obvious ..... so tiresome.
