Remember? If only we could ...

Administration's behavior on Benghazi is an insult to original 9-11

  • Follow Editorials

If the media wanted us to remember today’s one-year anniversary of the 9-11 attacks in Benghazi – and they don’t – it might be a futile gesture anyway.

It makes little sense to try to “never forget” something you’ve never really learned.

A year later, the Obama administration, with a complicit news media, has been able to nearly wipe the Benghazi scandal from all memory.

In the past year, the administration has:

• lied about what happened, concocting a fairy tale that an anti-Islam Internet video caused the attack (and even having the filmmaker arrested);

• never been held accountable for allowing our diplomatic mission to be unprotected on the anniversary of 9-11, of all days, despite fervent pleas to increase security there;

• never revealed President Obama’s actions the night four Americans were killed on his watch at our Libyan outpost;

• angrily told the American people, through then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, that it doesn’t matter how the attacks came about, even though they killed four Americans, including our ambassador;

• sent U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice to all the Sunday talk shows to spread the lie about how the video led to a spontaneous protest (which the administration later admitted was a lie);

• kept witnesses of the attacks from speaking publicly;

• punished at least one whistleblower for doing so.

We could go on. But a year later, we know precious little about what really happened that night – only that our government has been lying to us about it and covering it up. Witnesses reportedly were forced to sign nondisclosure statements.

How can the news media accept all the above so unquestioningly, so compliantly? Whatever became of journalism?

The Obama administration has had more than its share of scandals, from Fast and Furious to the IRS harassment of conservative groups to spying on journalists and on millions of Americans. But in the Benghazi case, in which four Americans died brutal deaths, this administration has set new lows for lying, for phony indignation, for obfuscation, for stalling, and for stabbing in the back the very people who were serving it in one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the world.

Meanwhile, the president said this the day after the attacks:

“We will not waver in our commitment to see that justice is done for this terrible act. And make no mistake, justice will be done.”

Well, a year later, it’s no mistake to say they’ve wavered and that justice has not been done. Federal investigators seem to have little interest in the survivors of the attacks – and have been unable to find the perpetrators in Libya, even though media outlets have actually interviewed a key suspect.

“Why is it that reporters seem to be able to find this guy, who the government is charging with involvement in Benghazi, but law enforcement can’t find him?” Fox News’ Chris Wallace asked White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough on Sunday. “It’s been a year, sir. ... Why can AP find him, why can the New York Times find him, and not our government?”

In response, McDonough had nothing but what appeared to be trumped-up determination and platitudes. Someday. Someday.

In short, this government not only does not appear interested in seeing that justice is done for the Benghazi attacks, it appears intent on preventing it.

That’s some kind of memorial – more like an insult – to those victims, and to the memory of the original 9-11.

Soap Opera

The Benghazi cover-up was a soap opera with lies and deceit in every episode. It was apparent what had occurred early on, but the lies became greater as time went on before the presidential election. It was an election changing event, but the liberal press stuck to the script.

When Hillary asked what did it matter about the attack, AFTER THE ELECTION, they were closing their fictional script and taking the show off the air. They put the episodes in the vault and dare anyone to try to get to them. It will be decades before we see them again, if ever.

Great way to honor the memory

Great way to honor the memory of the 9/11 victims. Jump in with the loony right wing conspiracy theorists over Benghazi. No help was available that could arrive in time. It was under protected, yes. I don't recall this paper being so concerned about attacks and deaths at US diplomatic missions under other Presidents.

cover-up my foot

Give it a rest. There were a few days of confusion after the attack, which is nearly universal after events like that. Once the smoke cleared, the administration gave an accurate rendering of events. You would know this if you had consulted with actual news sources, which clearly reported the very things that you claim were covered up. Indeed, the only reason you know the true facts about the attack is that the administration reported them and the MSM promulgated them. ACES, there is no smoke and there is no fire. There was a tragedy. There was surely no coverup.

9-11 and what it means to me

Every time I hear 9-11 now I wonder which one?

Although the 2001 attack is the most horrifying and disturbing.
The world has had its share of such attacks for 100's of years.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_terrorist_incidents
scroll down to "1970–present"

This is not a cold statement or a statement made to belittle the US 9-11 or the Benghazi 9-11. It is just a statement that terrorism is with us and has been with us for centuries. Terrorism has modernized, but the USA is still fighting the old ways. This type terrorism cannot be fought like a conventional war. It must be fought in a Special Ops manner and by, YES, drones.

Take out the leaders and take off the head and leadership skills of the terror cell to mount new operations.

Deploying Billions of $$$$, troops, get rich contractors, suppliers is NO LONGER the solution. We are no longer fighting uniformed Armies, we are fighting plain clothed infiltrators.

As the Benghazi 9-11 and other scandals get sweep under the rug by the latest Wag the Dog misadventure called Syria, there will be other attacks now that 9-11 has become a rallying cry for those with an axe to grind.

BTW: Remember we are also are now in a struggle to protect our constitutional rights and privacy.

Good article!

The TRUTH needs to come out time after time after time after time. Lies and coverups need to be exposed with the same conviction. One thing that has come from this is that the terms "trust" and "government" should NEVER be used in the same paragraph together.

Excellent editorial. Let me make a few points.

Once many people thought that obama was out to destroy the US; however, I now recall his statements prior to begin elected in which he bascially said America should not be the top dog in the world and needed to be taken down to the level of other countries. He has done everything he can to reduce the influence and power of the US and in many cases he has succeeded.

Our military is now so weakened and hollowed out not only could we not fight a two front war as we have stated is our policy, we cannot even support troops on the ground in one theater. We are weak militarily and he has slashed the military budget. Yet, he is having the pentagon spend $1 billion on windmills and required the services to buy tens of thousands of gallons of biofuel at $27 a gallon rather than the normal $3 a gallon. He has slashed weapons systems, new airlift capability, troop levels, and operations and maintenance budgets. He has accomplished his goal of reducing our power and influence around the world.

Our posture is such that our enemies don't fear us and our friends don't trust us.

Last night, if one look at obama without any sound on the TV they would have seen a small, weak looking individual with defeatist body language. When one turned on the sound their perception would have been confirmed.

Finally, let me address Bod and his and the administration's contention that the reactionary force could not have got there in time. I have been a member of numerous quick reaction forces in combat and when we were called on to go there was no question or concern about how long the fight we were supposed to relieve was going to continue. We just knew our fellow soldiers were in a fire fight and needed help. There was no way anyone in the area had any idea how long the fighting in BenGhazi was going to continue and air forces and combat response forces should have been deployed as soon as the attack started. Incompetency at it's finest was shown by all concerned.

By the way, Hillary Clinton is going to be awarded the Freedom Medal today for her service and guess who is going to present it to her? None other than Jeb Bush, the former governor of Florida. I guess he is announcing that he doesn't want to run for the GOP presidential nomination.

Bottomline is we are witnessing something rare in history--the intentional dismantling of a superpower by its duly elected leader who is a leftist, Muslim sympathizer.

I want to know where Bod gets

I want to know where Bod gets his information from. The people that were on the ground in Libya as the assult on the US Embassy are under oath not to talk and threatened with prosecution if they do. The Special Forces officer in charge at the time of the attack has not been allowed to testify. The whole incident has been covered up in lies but Bod knows the truth? WOW !! Don't forget that all the lies, hiding witnesses and stubbing congress is from "the most open administration in the history of America" Barack Obama said!!

When 60k% of Americans polled

When 60% of Americans polled believe there was a Benghazi coverup I don't think you can call it a looney conspiracy theory. You call it "obvious". Since Obama like to bring up populace ideas that Americans support as an argument, he should support America's wanting answers to Benghazi. All the questions answered-some people are satisfied with so little info.

Bod & Rhetor, No cover

Bod & Rhetor,

No cover up....yeh, that's a good one. Why haven't the survivors been allowed to testify? Although I do understand that after a year of preparation and threats that they MAY be allowed to testify now. Why so long? And why only senior "administration" military have been allowed to testify. Why not the subordinate commanders on the ground in the Mediterranean who have privately said they had air assets that could have been overhead in 30 minutes and ground assets that could have been there in a couple of hours during that 7 hour attack....but they were told to stand down? Yeh, no cover up.....that's rich.

Regardless of what people believe, the ACTIONS of the Obama administration SAY cover up. Obama won't even say where he was at or what he was doing during the attack. Hillary denies any knowledge of there being a problem before or during....but "what does it matter now". Well Hillary, to some of us it means a HELLUVA lot. Maybe some of us aren't as open minded as we should be sometimes but most of us can definitely recognize a cat covering up crap.

Was just now watching The President speaking at the Pentagon

9-11 remembrance.

I know I must have misheard him.

But I could have sworn, I heard him misquote the date and European date format style .... 12th of September.....

If he remembers it as the 12th that means he wasn't in the USA at the time.

Did anybody else catch this, if so please set me straight?

As long as Benghazi has

As long as Benghazi has questions Clinton will have trouble with her election bid. Since the majority of Americans believe there is an issue with Benghazi this "really does make a difference now". Her poor angry word choice I can already see running on TV ads. These politicians live in an alternate universe of what they can get away with.

That is what sets apart and why Benghazi is so important! And Bod, it's not a conspiracy theory either.

These phony scandals. I

These phony scandals. I remember when Nixon won re-election to office. Then came this phony scandal called "watergate" that suddenly sprouted legs and he ended up resigning. You never know where these "phony" scandals will go-suddenly they sprout legs and topple presidents. Now with two or three phony scandals your statistical probability of something sprouting legs and outing you increases substantially.

"We are told we need to attack Syria because they are killing children. So using the same logic when will we see the plans to attack Late term Abortion Clinics?"

"Our Administration wants to ban firearms in the USA, but is supplying them to rebel in Syria?"

"We have to attack Syria see what's in it."

First, I don't know OF ANY media; liberal or conservative; that has neglected to mention 911. I have seen and heard it on every news program this morning. As for being; "a futile gesture"; with all due respect to the victims, people move on!! Sure, "LEST WE FORGET" is very proper for today, but what does ACES expect, an all day vigual? THERE ARE BIG percentages of Americans THAT DON'T EVEN KNOW what Veterans' Day nor Memorial Day has been set aside for. It would not surprise me; IN THE LEAST; to know that in four or five more generations; the Trade Center Memorial will be turned into something comercial!! PEOPLE MOVE ON!!
