Divisive demagoguery

Zimmerman aftermath is opportunity for true change, not more animosity

  • Follow Editorials

Opponents of George Zimmerman are creating the very racial animus they claim he harbored.

Only exponentially so.

Race hustler Al Sharpton, the most divisive race baiter in modern American history, has called for protests in 100 cities today to press the U.S. Department of Justice to file civil rights charges against Zimmerman in the death of Trayvon Martin.

Others are sadly joining the mob. Singer Stevie Wonder is boycotting Florida and other states with “stand your ground” statutes that recognize a person’s right of self-defense. There are either 21 or 30 of them, depending on whom you believe.

Really? You’re against self-defense?

Whatever.

Meanwhile, Attorney General Eric Holder is setting the worst example possible: the country’s top law enforcement officer, attacking the God-given right of self-defense.

First, about the protests and the angst behind them:

There is not one scintilla of evidence George Zimmerman was racist.

This, from a CNN report last year:

“George Zimmerman (once) gave a scathing review of the Sanford Police Department and accused its chief of engaging in a cover-up during a public meeting in January 2011.

“Zimmerman’s anger stemmed from the case of Sherman Ware, a black homeless man who was beaten by the son of a white police lieutenant.”

And from London’s Economist: “His supporters pointed out during the trial that he took a black date to his high-school prom and befriended a black neighbor.”

Nor is there an iota of evidence Zimmerman killed Trayvon Martin because of his race. Fact is, much of the evidence indicates Martin was beating Zimmerman severely before being shot.

The protests, and other reckless statements being made in the media, are only further dividing the nation along racial lines. What we are witnessing is the worst sort of demagoguery we’ve seen in many years.

Moreover, the protests seem to feed off the mistaken belief that what happened between Zimmerman and Martin is some kind of pattern (and, if Stevie Wonder is to be believed, it’s the fault of the sovereign state of Florida).

The truth is, none of us knows for certain what happened between those two – but the jurors weren’t convinced Zimmerman committed a crime. How do the rest of us know better than they?

Yet people are taking to the streets with absolute moral certainty that he should still be strung up by the feds?

At the very least, please recognize complete irrationality when you see it. Jesse Jackson, in his own words, recently depicted “Florida as a kind of apartheid state.” That’s just insane, to indict an entire state because of one case in which 1) there was no evidence of racial intent and 2) the evidence pretty much favored the defendant and his recitation of events.

Rather than chant for a pound of flesh like an angry lynch mob, why not work for unity and change?

As for trying to strip us of our rights to self-defense, we’ll just note that such a right is not manufactured and packaged by any government; it’s a God-given, natural right.

A government cannot take away what is not its own to give.

"The dispatcher also told Mr. police

want-to-be not to follow Martin."

.
Wrong again! The dispatcher said, "We don't need you to do that."

That same dispatcher said later in an interview that callers are NOT required by law to follow instructions from 911 dispatchers.

And what's with the "Mr. police want-to-be..."??

Bottom line is; for YEARS

Bottom line is; for YEARS liberals have been advocating for the legalization of drugs, lighter sentences for criminals, abolition of the death penalty and people are getting more and more frustrated with the system!! When you see the guy who burglarized your home, getting probation ONLY; it's get frustrating!! When you see drug addicts, day after day, stealing anything that isn't WELDED to the floor!! When you see people shooting each other daily over drugs and alcohol!! When you work your butt off to have a few nice things, then some meth head come along and TAKES your stuff, it's frustrating!!

When you're trying to take your wife out on a date, and everywhere you drive; you're constantly hearing gangster rap with profanity, BLARING from some idiots stereo; it's frustrating!! When you take her to Chili's and there is a group of young punks (absolutely no race intended), sitting in the corner being so loud you can't talk with your wife, it's frustrating!! People are simply getting tired of this generation of SELF!!! They are also getting tired of liberals who are ALWAYS making excuses for people and their BAD behavior!!

I promise you, we are going to see more and more vigilante action and it has NOTHING to do with Zimmerman or that incident!! It has everything to do with PEOPLE getting frustrated and feeling there is nowhere to turn and no one is looking out for them or the honestly good people!! I work the streets and SEE this constantly in people's own words!! I talked with a man the other say whose business has been burglarized numerous times. He said he is going to start sleeping in his business at night and when they come in, he is going to blast them!!

It's called FRUSTRATION!!!!

"T3, sad to say but I have lost a lot of respect for your as a debater on her. I use to enjoy the bantering between you and HA and was of the opinion that you had some good points to some deep conversations on here"

I do, very much, enjoy debating HA. It is diffecult to put it into words, but it seems as she makes her point without treating me like her enemy. I know that I can not say the same for myself because my passion is in making my point !! I have stated it before, "I see HA as one of the main engines that cause this comments page to run !!" And I miss even one day when she is not available !

Profiling

Much has been said about racial profiling and I don't doubt this goes on a lot but I am not sure it is necessarily bad. I have had black friends who do the same thing. I have heard them refer to a person as "trouble" based on certain external criteria. Is this racial profiling? It is at least profiling. They have even said they don't go into certain areas because of the kind of people that hang out their. In some cases profiling is nothing more than"common sense". It is common sense in dealing with terrorism to look more closely at people from the middle east.

"And look up the code section before people spew ignorance about "Stalking". Stalking requires REPETITION for the purpose of harassing and intimidating, NOT looking out for your neighborhood!!"

HA already looked it up, mistakenly thinking it proved her point. The fact is that ( 1c ) of the code speaks about people fearing for their safety. This would have given Martin the right to "STAND YOUR GROUND" per the law of The Great State of FL !! Simple reasoning, YES ??!!

This paper supporting the shooting of an unarmed teenager is just too much. These folks act like he was breaking into a car or something . He was talking a friend and walking home from the store. Maybe Mr editor if this happens to one of your love ones you will see why so many are upset

owensjef3, No he was not breaking into a car he was doing something much worse. He assaulting a person. Martin did not like being followed by a white cracker so he went back and started beating the h*ll out of the white cracker. The case should have never went to trial.

COULD NOT HAVE STATED IT BETTER !!

May not have stated it better but it's still incorrect. Trayvon may not have been breaking into cars and he wasn't just simply walking home. In fact he wasn't walking at all. He was loitering around the back of homes where he had no business being. It was raining and he should have been on the sidewalk in the light heading back to the residence he was staying at. Doesn't matter how well you state it, if it's incorrect, it's still a lie.

.
And yet by getting out of his car, he was completely within his rights, and he violated absolutely no law, now did he?

I know! He was guilty of performing the duties of a neighborhood watchman while NOT black.

Zimmerman exposed himself to an unwarranted, unprovoked assault by a crazed, paranoid and unreasonable young man.

A new category of crime!

Help me out here... What punishment does the law call for in that case?

T3 stated " I know that I can

T3 stated " I know that I can not say the same for myself because my passion is in making my point "

So you don't care how you say something or what you say, so long as you say it. To heck with respect. Got ya!

Also, let us state the facts.....Trayvon was not unarmed. He may not have had a gun in his hand but he use his hands as weapons and the sidewalk didn't jump up and cut Zimmerman all by itself.

People do not want honesty, they just want revenge, because revenge feels better.

That's what passes for logic in the liberal world.

Only one person broke any law that night. That person was Trayvon Martin.

The one who followed the law (however imprudently others may think) should have died for his efforts.

Yeah, if you live with Alice and the Mad Hatter.

T3 can you say "OK" Because

T3 can you say "OK" Because that is what Zimmerman told the dispatcher and headed back to his truck.

We don't need for you to follow him is a suggestion to Zimmerman that it probably isn't wise to try and follow the young man.

Do not follow him is a command to Zimmerman, which the dispatcher did not make, and even if she had, Zimmerman is not breaking the law by ignoring her because she is not a law enforcement office.

So yes, doesn't matter how well you state it, if it's incorrect, and what you stated is a lie.

Zimmerman was guilty of "STALKING" Martin, which is against the law ! The stalking law code ( 1c ) speaks about feeling fearfull of ones' safety, therefore, Martin had EVERY right to "STAND YOUR GROUND" !!

"racist stacked jury"

"racist stacked jury" Seriously? Seems the prosecuting team had just as much say-so on who was on that jury than anyone. They thought because women are more compassionate they'd side with the prosecutor and Trayvon's family....to heck with justice and truth. They just want a conviction which didn't happen and now they are mad as heck because they didn't get their way. Nothing but a huge temper tantrum because they wanted to get over on the white man. They wanted to show him blacks win. To heck with the truth and the life of one simple Hispanic man....we'll just use him as a white man scape goat. Pathetic.
