Divisive demagoguery

Zimmerman aftermath is opportunity for true change, not more animosity

  • Follow Editorials

Opponents of George Zimmerman are creating the very racial animus they claim he harbored.

Only exponentially so.

Race hustler Al Sharpton, the most divisive race baiter in modern American history, has called for protests in 100 cities today to press the U.S. Department of Justice to file civil rights charges against Zimmerman in the death of Trayvon Martin.

Others are sadly joining the mob. Singer Stevie Wonder is boycotting Florida and other states with “stand your ground” statutes that recognize a person’s right of self-defense. There are either 21 or 30 of them, depending on whom you believe.

Really? You’re against self-defense?

Whatever.

Meanwhile, Attorney General Eric Holder is setting the worst example possible: the country’s top law enforcement officer, attacking the God-given right of self-defense.

First, about the protests and the angst behind them:

There is not one scintilla of evidence George Zimmerman was racist.

This, from a CNN report last year:

“George Zimmerman (once) gave a scathing review of the Sanford Police Department and accused its chief of engaging in a cover-up during a public meeting in January 2011.

“Zimmerman’s anger stemmed from the case of Sherman Ware, a black homeless man who was beaten by the son of a white police lieutenant.”

And from London’s Economist: “His supporters pointed out during the trial that he took a black date to his high-school prom and befriended a black neighbor.”

Nor is there an iota of evidence Zimmerman killed Trayvon Martin because of his race. Fact is, much of the evidence indicates Martin was beating Zimmerman severely before being shot.

The protests, and other reckless statements being made in the media, are only further dividing the nation along racial lines. What we are witnessing is the worst sort of demagoguery we’ve seen in many years.

Moreover, the protests seem to feed off the mistaken belief that what happened between Zimmerman and Martin is some kind of pattern (and, if Stevie Wonder is to be believed, it’s the fault of the sovereign state of Florida).

The truth is, none of us knows for certain what happened between those two – but the jurors weren’t convinced Zimmerman committed a crime. How do the rest of us know better than they?

Yet people are taking to the streets with absolute moral certainty that he should still be strung up by the feds?

At the very least, please recognize complete irrationality when you see it. Jesse Jackson, in his own words, recently depicted “Florida as a kind of apartheid state.” That’s just insane, to indict an entire state because of one case in which 1) there was no evidence of racial intent and 2) the evidence pretty much favored the defendant and his recitation of events.

Rather than chant for a pound of flesh like an angry lynch mob, why not work for unity and change?

As for trying to strip us of our rights to self-defense, we’ll just note that such a right is not manufactured and packaged by any government; it’s a God-given, natural right.

A government cannot take away what is not its own to give.

This first sentence is RIGHT ON TARGET !! How can the Martin believers expect any more from this "RACIAL LINES" jury ??!! Martin believers believe that a stalker, Zimmerman, most certainly posed a real threat to Martin !! Hence, Martin was completely with-in his rights to "STAND-YOUR-GROUND" !!

Some things I wonder about

Why don't people understand the difference between the two words "racial" and "racism"? They are entirely two different things and one is used because of either ignorance or to stir up feelings.

How is it (contrary to Spector's assertion) that blacks and whites sit in the same classroom and most of the blacks score lower on all the tests?

How is it that Washington, DC spends more money per pupil in a vastly majority black population and still has some of the lowest academic test scores in the country and a very high drop out rate?

Why is it blacks commit crime at a much higher out rate than their percentage of the population?

Why is it blacks from other countries come here and prosper when the ones born and raised here complain and still live on the liberal plantation?

When I was a student at the Army's Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, KS I notice the black officers from the African countries did not associate with the American black officers. I asked one of them why that is and he told me that the image they have of the American black is someone who is lazy and wants the government to take care of them and as a result they look down on the American black.
My table mate was an American black and an outstanding officer and gentleman.

So, you see the image of blacks has nothing to do with their race as much as it does their culture and the perpetuation of being victims so they can use it as an excuse for lack of success.

Thank God there are people like Doctors Walter Williams, Thomas Sowell, Justice Clarence Thomas, and the many outstanding black soldiers I served with over 27 years in the Army who never had that attitude and are sterling examples of what a human should be.

Would you please give some evidence as to why Zimmerman should have
a civil rights charge brought against him? There is nothing to indicate he had any racial animosity towards Martin. As a matter of fact, race never came up until he was asked by the dispatcher what race did he think the individual was.

You know, based on the interview of his girl friend with Piers Morgan, a suit could be brought against Martin for a hate crime because she said she told Martin the man following him could be gay and was going to rape him and for him to run. Thereby, thinking the man following him (Zimmerman) was gay he was going to confront him and teach him a lesson by beating up on him.

I hope you have a chiropractor handy because I know your back is causing you great pain as you bend over backwards so hard and so far in an attempt to inject racial prejudice into this case. As a matter of fact, I bet the chiropractors in all the liberal neighborhoods are doing a booming business. Chris Matthews most like has had one move into his home.

Is Obama really a Black President or just Community Activist

acting the part?

Where did he have these Black experiences he speaks of?

Because the facts say:

* He was raised privileged, lived a Upper Middle to Upper class life in a mainly White environment.

* He attended Private or privileged grade schools growing up.

* He attended the 3 best colleges in the USA.

* He was President of Harvard Law Review.

* He married a educated lawyer.

* He quickly got in to Politics and was well off very soon after graduation.

* He does not have Slave heritage, unless you count that sudden finding just before the last election. Then forget the questions that were raised whether his former ancestors being traders in slavery.

Everywhere I look, I see what Times Magazine declared a 3/4 white person. Acting like he has roots to further his political causes and agenda.

The other thing I see is a lot rallying behind him for no other discernible or determinable reason than his claims to being Black.

There is a word for this and it is called:

Racist or Racism.

The protests, and other reckless statements being made...

Since when in America has demonstration and 'out rageous' banter not been the norm for those who feel they are not being heard. I would suggest that those who attended all those tparty rallies need to step back and allow this 'fire' to burn itself out, rather than add fuel by defending what a whole segment of America finds indefensible. Even if one doesn't agree with the points being made. Oh yea, some love to hear themselves talk, so talk on and keep the fires burning, to what end is my only question.

The dispatcher also told Mr. police want-to-be not to follow Martin. The moment that Mr. want-to-be got out of his car was when he sealed a verdict of "GUILTY" in the eyes of us Martin believers !!

It is all about controlling

It is all about controlling the black vote. Liberals must have it to stay in power.
It is a shame.

Those who are looking for Obama and Holder to make some sort of difference will now see what Conservatives are and have been going through. Stall, delay until it gets to the point of "nothing here, move on now".

Sorry Hank--no one is safe

ATLANTA — Atlanta police are investigating the burglary of baseball great Hank Aaron's Atlanta home while he and his wife Billye were away.

A police report obtained by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution ( ) says the 79-year-old Aaron missed a call from his alarm company Sunday night and asked a neighbor to check on his house Monday morning. The neighbor saw a broken window and called police, and officers arrived to find two BMWs missing from the garage and closets that had been ransacked. http://bit.ly/1dKoZeG

Jewelry and car keys were the only other items taken.

Police have located both vehicles and said they expect to make an arrest soon.

A Mobile, Ala., native, Aaron played from 1954 to 1976 for Milwaukee and Atlanta.

As an Atlanta Brave, Aaron broke Babe Ruth's record of 714 career home runs on April 8, 1974. His home run record of 755 home runs stood for nearly three decades.

T3, I'm writing this slowly so you can understand it.

Many times it has been stated here that the dispatcher told Zimmerman he did notneed to follow the suspicious individual. She never told him to stop or not to do that. As a matter of fact, Zimmerman was on the way back to his truck to await the arrival of the police when Martin confronted and attacked him. Now was that slow enough for you to get this time?

By the way, what is wrong with wanting to be a police officer---one of the finest callings we have? He turned down the opportunity to be a police auxiliary volunteer with a car, radio, and uniform because he said he was too busy going to school and spending time with his family and that he would continue to do what he could with the neighborhood watch.

Wow!

Since only two people were there, and one is dead, we'll never know the whole truth one way or the other. But I reiterate my point: when one of your own is charged, you all suddenly feel a deep need to assert the rights of the accused, do you not? And quite vociferously at that! Maybe next time a black person is accused on questionable evidence, you will extend the same benefit of the doubt. Have a great day.

My god man!! Why would you put out such solid opinions based upon NOTHING!!!

George Zimmerman DID TAKE A LIE DETECTOR AND PASSED!! As a matter of FACT, he passed TWO of them!!!

He admitted to IGNORING the dispatcher and continuing to follow Martin and that was found to be truth. He also passed when asked if HE CONFRONTED MARTIN FIRST, and he said NO!!! That was shown to be TRUTH!!! Look something up before posting man!!

T3, Zimmerman did submit AND

T3, Zimmerman did submit AND PASSED a lie detector test the day after shooting Trayvon (actually 2 test). A little bit of research helps.

A day after killing Trayvon Martin, George Zimmerman passed a police lie detector test when asked if he confronted the teenager and whether he feared for his life “when you shot the guy,” according to documents released today by Florida prosecutors.

According to a “confidential report” prepared by the Sanford Police Department, Zimmerman, 28, willingly submitted to a computer voice stress analyzer (CVSA) “truth verification” on February 27. Investigators concluded that he “has told substantially the complete truth in regards to this examination.”

Zimmerman, the report noted, “was classified as No Deception Indicated (NDI).”

Along with questions about whether his first name was George and if it was Monday, Zimmerman was asked, “Did you confront the guy you shot?’ He answered, “No.” He was also asked, “Were you in fear for your life, when you shot the guy.” Zimmerman replied, “Yes.”

Before the CVSA test, Zimmerman--who was apparently not accompanied by legal counsel--signed a Sanford Police Department release stating that he was undergoing the examination “voluntarily, without duress, coercion, threat or promise.”

The lie detector test was requested by Chris Serino, a homicide investigator with the Sanford Police Department

A person calls for Zimmerman to be absolutely charged with Civil Rights violations.

And Also says he should be given a lie detector test, when he has already PASSED TWO!!!

Nope, I guess law enforcement wouldn't have thought about a lie detector if people commenting on a media site hadn't mentioned it!!

So, I suppose the guy in Texas who killed two intruders who had just burglarized his neighbors house; shouldn't have got out of his house?

I guess the guy in North Carolina who held a guy burglarizing his neighbors house, at gunpoint until police arrive, shouldn't have gone out?? These examples could go on FOREVER!!!

Yes, I REALIZE Trayvon had NOT burglarized ANYTHING, But Zimmerman had also NOT harmed him; only followed him OBSERVING and REPORTING!!!! How in God's creation can anyone have a problem with this, especially in a neighborhood which had a string of burglaries recently!! I repeat, FOLLOWING someone is NOT placing them in danger, if FOLLOWING is all they do!! And look up the code section before people spew ignorance about "Stalking". Stalking requires REPETITION for the purpose of harassing and intimidating, NOT looking out for your neighborhood!!

Tim; how about this fact!! If Trayvon had NOT assaulted Zimmerman, this wouldn't have happened either. Your argument is only "fool-proof" in YOUR opinion!! Which on this topic, appears to be very radical and AGAINST the evidence!!
