Keeping the faith

More of us should take stand against birth-control mandate

  • Follow Editorials

While Democrats wailed about a phony-baloney GOP “war on women” in last year’s election cycle, they were preparing for a real battle against religious Americans.

Never mind the attempted assault on the faith-minded Chick-fil-A after an executive there merely said he supported traditional marriage. That assault failed miserably, thank goodness, with fans of the restaurant chain overwhelming it with support across the country.

More ominously, the federal health-care law requires employers to offer birth-control coverage, even if it violates a business owner’s deeply held religious beliefs in the sanctity of life.

In short, if anyone’s at war, this administration is with religious people and institutions.

The problem is, the religious aren’t fighting back much.

When Catholics and a few others squawked about the birth-control mandate, the Obama administration reluctantly agreed to exempt purely religious facilities. But the exemptions don’t include many faith-based organizations and their civic and social work offshoots, or secular businesses owned by people with religious views that are contrary to birth control.

There’s also the rather fundamental question of why it is that Americans must go to our rulers on bended knee to seek waivers in order to exercise their basic human and constitutional rights.

Since then, a few entities have fought a lonely battle against an emboldened Obama administration to secure their religious liberties. By proxy, they’re fighting for our rights as well.

Arts and crafts company Hobby Lobby is among the most prominent. And this past week, the chain won a huge, if partial and temporary, battle: The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled it can continue fighting the birth-control mandate in court without having to pay massive fines for being in noncompliance with Obamacare. The fines would’ve started Monday.

It’s amazing that an appeals court would even have to provide such protection. Why would the Obama administration even seek to levy crippling, if not fatal, fines on a business for its trying to defend its owners’ constitutional rights? And why would any trial judge go along with it?

Be that as it may, any freedom-loving American should be thankful the appeals court provided Hobby Lobby that very reasonable, compassionate protection from an overbearing and oppressive government.

In fact, the judges expressed what amounts to legal sympathy for the company’s predicament.

“Would an incorporated kosher butcher really have no claim to challenge a regulation mandating non-kosher butchering practices?” they wrote.

The Associated Press reports that “More than 30 businesses in several states have challenged the contraception mandate.” That’s encouraging, but hardly enough. More people of faith need to stand up for their religious rights.

Now is the time. This is a red line on constitutional rights that, once crossed, may never be restored.

Whether the so-called "war on women" is true are not, conservative Republicans just need to understand that they are NOT the party of women nor minorities !

I believe this editorial uses just one part of the many GOOD parts of Obamacare to, YET AGAIN, attack the whole Act !! For the um-teenth time, Obamacare must be allowed to have a long run before even thinking about "trashing it" !

"Republicans just need to understand that they are NOT the party of women nor minorities!"

Of course not; because we teach personal RESPONSIBILITY, and NO ONE today wants to hear that "hogwash". It's all about blaming someone else for EVERYTHING and AVOIDING responsibility. When one group says "Work hard in everything you do and be responsible for your actions and decisions." Then the other group is saying "You don't have to work that hard, government will level the playing field, so it's fair for all. Also, don't worry about your personal decisions and actions, if you make a mistake and get pregnant, we will take care of that for you. We will give you more money, the more kids you have out of wedlock."

As our Country has become more lazy and lost it's morality; which do you think they will choose?

Here are a couple Ben Franklin quotes: "We the people find they can vote themselves money, it will herald the end of the republic."

"It's inevitable, man will eventually be ruled by God or tyrants."

Why did he say that last one? Because he lived in oppressive government times. He KNEW that communist type governments spread like a disease; infecting everything it touches. He knew MEN in power, only want to further that power and do anything to accomplish MORE power. He was right about that saying, but it will NOT be tyrants that rule us at the end. Whether individuals like it or not, GOD will be our leader!!

It isn't democrats. (That accusation is just a ploy in this editorial).

Anyone watching the media knows good and well that WOMEN in this country are fed-up with a bunch of OLD MEN in the GOP trying to tell women what they can and can't do with their bodies.

What's really interesting is that women all over the world are getting fed up.

We've been forewarned!!

2nd Timothy Chapter 4: verses 3-5

3:For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

This is exactly what is going on today! People simply DO NOT want to hear anyone speak against WHATEVER they want to do, no matter the repercussions. People want to indulge in EVERY pleasure possible, without responsibility!! They certainly don't want anyone telling them their behavior is wrong. It "offends" people when you tell them their actions and behavior is deplorable; trust me I've told people this THOUSANDS on times in 16 years. I've tried to give people advice on how to fix their problems and they WON'T listen to what THEY CAN DO, they just want us to FIX IT!!

The old saying in law enforcement is "People want us to fix in 10 minutes, a problem that took 10 years to create."

Verse 4 couldn't be any more accurate!! People don't want to hear TRUTH, they want to hear the EASY WAY OUT!! They listen to these "pastors" like Jesse and Al and MANY others. They listen to anyone who tells them IT'S NOT THEIR FAULT!! It's someone elses fault they are in their situation. The listen to other commenters on here that spread lies about history. They listen to radical left wing professors, teaching our youth today!! The listen to people with a clear agenda for destroying America. They will listen to ANYTHING, BUT TRUTH and strong doctrine, period!!

Uhh, Democrats attempted an assault on Chick-Fil-A? Are you daft? That was a customer boycott. Welcome to a free market, in a free country. I know it serves an agenda to try to politicize the freedoms of ordinary Americans, but you really should start paying attention to how this type of overreach is turning otherwise reasonable positions into childish tantrums. Not a confidence builder at the polls, my friends.

If we 'must' follow the leader, then what becomes of 'free choice."

Lay aside your 'prescribed life' for a minute and think about this; Men live on the edge of heaven and hell because that's where the action is.

And if the risk of heaven and hell is taken away, then what's worth "saving?"

It should be interesting to

It should be interesting to see how our govt deals with the growing population of muslims here. Polls indicate the majority support Sharia law, Islam is a theocratic religion, and you aren't suppose to discriminate against religions-So what to do? I think Oklahoma has been dealing with this and I remember Ole Newt wanted a law against it. If you are going to discriminate against a religion then you should do so to all equally. LOL. So I guess a company has to provide the opportunity for this benefit but I guess an individual can still deny the benefit-ie I am catholic and don't use birth control for example or I am transgendered and don't need birth control. LOL Funny how insurance companies prohibit all kinds of procedures or limit certain drugs all the time so I guess they no longer have such say. Hey this could backfire for Dems as Hispanics are mostly Catholic and may not want birth control and feel this in infringing on their freedom. Gosh "politicize" comes to mind.

OK HA, I will cave in first.

"What makes up corporations and unions? Robots?"

I can't quite understand which side of the fence you are on with this ?

My take on unions is that they were and are very important to workers ! Unions have made the work place safer, the wages better, and demand a limit to how detrimental "THE BOSSES" can be.

Can't have old men telling women what they can do with their bodies, it is so much more fun taking money from old men and spend it on socialism BS programs, you know buy women birth control, pay for food stamps, pay for illegal aliens to live in public housing, buy Obama phones, etc, etc, etc...

A pro-life Democrat

I am a Democrat, BUT I am pro-life. Perhaps that may sound like a lie, BUT all Democrats are not necessarily pro-choice. Do I believe in the morning after pill ? YES, I do not view this as abortion, but I see this as humane !! To stop a pregnancy perhaps before it has even occured, I do see this as humane !

Free will has always been in existence and always will be. He created us just like himself, free will and free thinking souls. Unfortunately for those that CHOOSE with their free will, in this lifetime, not to obey God's regulations; they won't exist after this life. So, those who do exist will keep their free will, living a life very similar to this one; except all the evil people won't be alive. Murderers, rapists, molestors, liars, theives, drug addicts and sellers, violent people, greedy people and the list could go on. We alway will live in a body that doesn't age and doesn't get sick. Image having a body like your 20's FOREVER. A world without all those people and a perfect body? Sounds like heaven all by itself, doesn't it?

I am not that great at math, but the math at the ballot box is what counts. If The Democrats controled The House, Obama's agenda would be going much, much better ! Do I believe EVERYTHING that The Democrats and Obama stand for ?? NO, BUT quite frankly I see The Republicans as much more for the rich than the middle and low incomes.

"Perhaps these religious groups believe in the power of God and faith. Should it even be in the nature of religions to "FIGHT BACK" ??"

This is exactly what the LP's count on!! That Christian's ONLY believe in the God of love; but NOT the God of wrath and discipline!! My Dad loved me as much as any man could! I have many good memories of playing ball with him and other activities. But he would also WHIP the crap out of me if I didn't something I knew I wasn't suppose to. God is the EXACT same. He loves unconditionally, but expects us to follow His rules.

But, in my opinion; this is the Churches fault that Christians sit on their butts and do nothing. Too many Christians are sitting around waiting to be "Taken out of here." by the rapture. I had this conversation with a cousin of mine the other day. We were talking about the direction this Country is headed and how it WILL collapse one day. She said and I quote "Yeah, I know it's going to happen one day, but thank God I won't be here. Christ will return before then and take his body out of here."

For the record (I don't want to debate this longer with my Christian friends) I do NOT believe in a rapture. We have work to do here and I believe this being "Taken out of here" prevents a lot of that work from getting done. There was a time in this Country the people would already be calling for WAR; with what the politicians are doing to us now. But not now, most Christians are sitting around waiting to be taken away from here.
