Running out the clock

Obama administration leveraging conservative civility to ride out scandal

  • Follow Editorials

The Obama administration can thank its lucky stars that conservatives are infinitely more civil – or perhaps “docile” is a better word – than the liberals it so favors.

Otherwise, conservatives would have been in the streets before now.

The liberal “Occupy Wall Street” protests – against exactly what isn’t quite clear – were messy and sometimes criminal. Labor unions caused a mob scene in occupying the Wisconsin statehouse when they didn’t like the state’s trimming of fat public employee benefits. Illegal immigrants were even marching in U.S. streets a few years ago demanding rights.

As recently as last weekend, liberal protesters went so far as to violate the privacy of law-and-order legal activist and Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, coming to his family’s home to protest and trying to blame him for the lawful deportation of illegal immigrants.

They want to stigmatize being conservative, and isolate and demonize conservative leaders.

Yet, until today’s scheduled anti-IRS Washington protest, conservatives had been sitting back and watching all this, while obediently swallowing the IRS’s abuse of their brethren, as well as the lies about it coming out of Washington.

When will they have had enough?

Thankfully, a few people are taking action. Peaceful, lawful action.

The American Center for Law and Justice has filed a lawsuit against the federal government over the IRS’s admitted targeting of conservatives and conservative groups in a thinly veiled effort to impede their rightful use of the tax code to organize nonprofit groups just like liberals.

Interesting; just a few years ago when Barack Obama was running for president, “community organizing” was considered a saintly act!

This week, the center announced it would be adding to its original 25 plaintiffs in its lawsuit, which argues the IRS violated the First and Fifth Amendments, federal law and IRS rules and regulations.

Also this week, it was learned an IRS supervisor and Obama donor in Washington had personally reviewed nonprofit applications from some 30 Tea Party groups – proving the administration lied or was woefully ignorant of the truth when it claimed the targeting of conservatives was confined to rogue agents in Cincinnati.

“Internal Revenue Service officials in Washington scrutinized the very first application from a tea party group seeking tax-exempt status – and dozens of others, including some requests that languished for more than a year without action,” the Associated Press reported.

If it’s not illegal for the IRS and other federal agencies to target people for their political beliefs, it needs to be. Government workers who do it should be prosecuted.

What if they aren’t? Will conservatives just shake their heads, sit back and wait for more abuse?

If the Benghazi model is any indication, the Obama administration strategy in the IRS scandal will be to try to run out the clock and hope conservatives – and the media – just go away.

Until today, there’s been nothing to indicate they’re wrong to hope that.

ACES or Issa?
Unpublished

This news article by Reuters gives this story with more integrity than ACES does.
http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/06/18/us-usa-irs-teaparty-idUSBRE95H...
ACES just creates more "noise pollution" concerning the IRS scandal.
This story shows that a conservative republican was in charge of how the applications were screened for further investigation into whether they merited tax-exempt status or not.
.
Issa needs to release all of the transcripts of interviews with IRS staff so the public can see all the facts. Issa has released parts of transcripts which do not show the whole story. What is Issa hiding? And why is he hiding these facts?

it's a character bubble

just like the housing bubble
eventually the government caused scheme ran out of other people's money
and there was nothing left to secure the mortgages
and our citizens have seen the virtue of character derided for so long
there is no longer anyone in Washington that can secure our trust

These and other complex financial devices which were not regulated by the government... but should be... are the cause of the housing bubble and then great recession of 2008. It was not a government scheme that caused the great recession but rather a lack of regulation and oversight by government entities over the financial scams that were perpetrated.

Two points:

The conservatives are not out demonstrating in the streets because they are the producer class who has jobs and not the moocher class who sucks at the teat of the government.

The IRS today announced it will pay $70,000,000 in performance bonuses to its employees. They along with the EPA are totally out of control and feel they answer to no one...and the way Congress and the president act they may be right.

It is in a conservatives DNA to solve problems and be efficient. Liberals are all political and only operate in the political arena. They are " politically" way ahead of us conservatives and are not interested in solutions.

do not qualify as a conservative, in my opinion, unless you ARE a Tea Party adherent. Republicans are cowards, by nature. They don't want to offend but too timid when offended. democrats and liberals, pardon me they are one in the same, are cowards who use force, bullying and intimidation to reach power. They are like the nazional sozialistische deutsche arbeiterpartei (nazis) with mass exterminations, intimidation, a "cleansing" of the race by making everyone lefties, illegal searches and seizures and mass slavery. We Southerners fought a Civil War to fight the injustice of Taxation by the yankees ( not slavery). Looks like we ( true conservatives ) need to rethink our position.

Other than voting to repeal Obamacare 39 times and voting to repeal abortion at 20 weeks which will go nowhere.... what have the conservatives done to solve the employment problem? Where are all the jobs they promised in the 2010 election process? They have done nothing but obstruct... they do not seek solutions nor do they seek efficiency in government. They seek gridlock and one-up-man-ship in political absurdities.
If they really wanted to get immigration reform bill with border security implemented first.... then they could pass a jobs bill which would put a lot of unemployed carpenters to work building the border fence.... have they done this ?..... no ..... and they never will.... because it is part of they blocking/gridlock/stalling strategy to avoid any immigration reform bill passage.

'Bledsoe, being educated does not necessarily make a person intelligent. I have known a lot of college graduates that could not pour urine out of a boot with the directions on the heel. Oh yeah most were liberal. My findings are that liberals are educated but not very smart. I would be surprised if most liberals posting here knows the difference.'

This conservative vs liberal

This conservative vs liberal tribal game is lazy thinking at its finest. People are far more complex, and have far more complex views, than these garbage labels. When someone tries to inform opinion with catch-all labels such as these, you can be sure of one thing: you are being manipulated.

For God's sake!

WHEN? will you conservatives posting on here learn to read a piece of propaganda and recognize it as such?!

"The liberal “Occupy Wall Street” protests – against exactly what isn’t quite clear – were messy and sometimes criminal."

Those of you who are conservatives have protested the Wall Street collapse yourselves - on here!

And now, you want to accept this "editorial's" viewpoint that a protest against Wall Street was wrong - because it was liberals standing up and not conservatives?

And you respond to the "editorial" hook, line and sinker as though you can't remember from one day to the next what's going on!

So! What the editorial writers want is a "proper way" and "proper place" to protest - musn't get in the way or inconvenience our authority or disturbe our "usual way of doing business?"

I can see it now; protestors following these rules, and when they've "run along now" authorities say "Oh!, weren't they cute. Well, they've had their say and the pressure is off of us to make any changes that we do not want to make.

"After all, WE are the deciders."

And just where? do the writers of this "editorial" get the idea that liberals support the spying of the IRS?

As Humble Angela is fond of declaring "Where is the proof?"

Sigh....

Of course there weren't facilities for restrooms, and fresh water and fantastic food.

"Wall Street" was a unorganized, spontaneous PROTEST by individuals who spontaneously came together for a united cause - opposing corruption!

You expect everyone to bring their own portapottie?

You are like so many other conservatives - so eager to "prove" yourself, that you've chosen an article that shoots you in your own foot.

And this;

"The criminals are crashing the party.

Lured by cheap drugs and free food, creepy thugs have infiltrated the crowd of protesters camped out in Zuccotti Park for Occupy Wall Street, The Post has learned.

“I got warrants. I’m running from the law,” boasted Dave, 24, a scrawny, unshaven miscreant in filthy clothes from Stamford, Conn. “I’m not even supposed to be here, but it’s as good a spot as any to hide.”

"Wanted for burglary, the drug-addled fugitive said some of his hard-partying pals clued him in that the protest was a good place to be fed, get wasted and crash."

This guy wasn't a protestor! - he was an intruder on a protest!!!

Let us pray......................................

I thought that the tea party started out protesting the bailouts that were given to AIG, investment houses, and banks during the Great Recession. This was also the main protest of the Occupy Wall Street groups. Wall Street wants a "free market" system but then they want American taxpayers to bail them out when their overleveraged financial scams collapse. Wall Street gets the benefits and we taxpayers get the debts.
.
so then.... what happened to the tea party after 2008-2009?

Actually the problem is most liberals expect someone to clean up after them. A good example is the inauguration in 2009 of the commie in WH. After the inauguration the Lincoln Memorial looked like a trash dump. In comparison after the Tea party rally in 9/09 there was no trash anywhere.
