We're being played for suckers

Muslim extremists funding anti-Western hatred on taxpayer's dime

  • Follow Editorials

Let’s just be honest with ourselves.

For all our military and economic might, for all our history of cultural and geopolitical dominance, Western civilization has grown fat, complacent and suicidally weak-willed. Not to mention morally adrift, civically indifferent and financially
myopic.

Our southern border remains porous while we consider legalizing illegals and having them invite their relatives to join them. Our legal immigration and visa system may be in worse disarray, as we let in people willy-nilly, especially students, including those from countries that hate us. Then we have no idea where those people go or how long they stay.

Even more than a decade after 9-11, our intelligence community couldn’t spot a budding terrorist – the older brother in the Boston bombing – although the Russians, hardly our best friends, warned us about him several times. And even though the guy was promoting jihad on the Internet.

And when it turns out that some of our guests wish us dead – and actually see to it – some Americans instinctively blame America. Meanwhile, our government still considers a radical Muslim attack at Fort Hood to be “workplace violence.”

Does that sound like a civilization on the rise?

Evidence of the West’s impotence and incompetence has been all around us for some time, but has become incontrovertible and inescapable with the news that the Boston bombers and their relatives were on public assistance. All the while, the older bomber’s wife worked up to 80 hours a week and her husband somehow found the finances to live the life of an international man of mystery, jetting off to Mother Russia for six months before cynically bombing the hand that fed him.

As somebody else noted, only in America can you be on a terror watch list and the welfare rolls at the same time.

And please note: While all this has been going on, you good, hardworking, taxpaying citizens who helped feather the Boston bomber’s nest have a government that is preparing to fine you for not buying health insurance.

What a country! Where upstanding, gainfully employed citizens can be threatened and punished by a government that’s spoonfeeding derelict, death-dealing terrorists.

We’re being played for suckers, folks.

Lest you think the Boston bum’s gaming of the system is a solitary case, far from it. In fact, it’s a transnational strategy of our enemy: Britain’s radical Muslim cleric Anjem Choudary has brazenly urged his followers to get on public benefits there – calling welfare a “jihad-seeker’s allowance.” He ridiculed British taxpayers and their working 9-5, saying living off them makes holy war easier.

“You work, give us the money,” he was secretly recorded telling fellow Muslims. “Allah Akbar; we take the money.”

It’s a strategy radical Muslims have employed throughout Western Europe as well.

Of course, pilfering taxpayers is a despicable game being played by many: There are now record numbers of people on food stamps and disability, meaning we’re increasingly becoming a nation unable – or perhaps unwilling – to feed ourselves or work. Did the Russians hit us with an invisible bomb that makes us unable to care for ourselves? How is it that so many are suddenly so helpless?

Absolutely we must feed and accommodate the hungry and truly disabled. That’s not the issue. The issue is rampant fraud.

“When asked why he robbed banks, Slick Willie Sutton famously answered, ‘Because that’s where the money is,’” writes Liz Peek at TheFiscalTimes.com “Today, millions of Americans appear to have jumped onto our disability rolls for the very same reason.”

When are we going to get smarter? No time soon, apparently: The U.S. Department of Agriculture says there is $750 million in food stamp fraud each year – more than double the number cited in a 2006-2008 study. And yet, get this: Not only is the government advertising to encourage more people to get on assistance, but recruiters are being paid to sign them up. The Washington Post wrote of one food stamp recruiter charged with signing up 150 people a month.

Yes, a quota to increase the public assistance rolls.

One audience we needn’t recruit: radical Muslims.

They know all about the free goodies here.

"Did the Russians hit us with an invisible bomb that makes us unable to care for ourselves? How is it that so many are suddenly so helpless?"

YES, they did. It's called Political correctness. It's a weapon of mass destruction and it's very effective!! It just takes a little longer to see the true effect.

Do you realize it was Stalin who said "You can't defeat a Country like America with force; you must destroy them from the inside."

The policies of this Country today WILL eventually destory this great nation. BUT, it was the plan all along by our enemies. Those who espouse communism (which is a disease); have had this in the plan for a very long time. It's just a true shame more Americans don't realize it, because then we could stop it. But those who do realize it are called compiracy theorists, nut jobs, crazy, etc. They must marginalize those who truly see what is happening to this Country. They must paint us as crazy, therefore the vast majority of the general population continue to believe "Everything is ok."

Sad, VERY sad!! We the People have the power to stop all this and are the strongest aspect of this Country. BUT, the truth is; because of willing ignorance, We the People are the ones responsible for this; because we keep voting in the same people or same type of people with a prettier face. Today, people care more about their President or congressman being cool or smooth; than the content of their character. They care more about whether he or she can sing or play a cool instrument; than whether they actually possess leadership qualities. BUT, more than anything; they care about what this politician/Country is going to do for them, NOT what they can do for their Country.

Hhhhmmmmmm, its seems like their was a intelligent guy in history once said this type of thinking is very bad for the Country.

Look like the staff didn't

Look like the staff didn't put a lot of thought into this editorial. We have to understand that he was a citizen. I don't think we can deny a constitutional right to a citizen just because he is on a watch list. There would have to be a law to do that. If denied, and appealed to the most conservative Supreme Court, his rights would be upheld. Conservatives are real big on the constitution but even they can't pick and choose parts of the constitution that they agree with. However, they do it all the time. Amen.

To be accurate, even illegals

To be accurate, even illegals get the 1st, 5th, and 14th amendments afforded to them. But heh, it's just children and families that are being targetted right? What's the big issue here? Let's just throw the baby out with the bathwater in the fight to extend Constitutional protection to anyone and everyone who wants to bury us.

Let it be clear that from where I sit, if you are not applying the medicine to stop the War on Terror, you are helping it along. Sometimes, bad people should not be given so much TLC, sometimes, you just T.O.B.A.S them.

Two arguements

First, this writer brings up, yet again, the U.S. / Mexican boarder. I can not prove it, but my guess is that Canadians get much, much better treatment than Mexicans ! Is it that Canadians ""ARE MORE LIKE US, AMERICANS ??!!" Perhaps the southern boarder WILL BECOME much safer if we stop being discriminating agains Mexicans.

Secound, the writer, yet again, brings up the Obama Care issue. Is it JUST me, OR DO ANY CONSERVS. truly understand that this Obama Care WILL ACCTUALLY GET PEOPLE OFF, THAT'S RIGHT; OFF OF MEDICADAID !! I was of the understanding that all conservs. were all for getting people off of the MEDICAID rolls !!

Great editorial!

It is my understanding that the older brother was on the watch list and he was not a citizen--his younger, still alive brother is the citizen.

Our immigration problems go back to 1965 when Ted Kennedy had changes made to our immigration policy. Go back and read what he said in the Senate as the bill was being debated and you will see more stupidity and liberal ignorance on display. The current "Gang of 8" proposal is almost, not not quite, as bad. Michelle Malkin has a great column today about how Rubio is being taken for a ride as it comes to border security.

Two points: No one should be allowed into the USA who is not going to be a benefit to us and where does it say the rest of the world has a right to come here. As it is now 75% of the immigrants come from third world countries and 80% of them receive government assistance. Let us look at our immigration procedures when we had Ellis Island. Secure our borders and have two points of legal entry...one on the east coast and one on the west coast.

As far as guest workes go establish a system where the employer has to go to the border, sign for each worker, transport them to his place of work, house and feed them, and return the workers to the border point where he picked them up. Sort of a hand receipt process.

t3bledsoe, If you look at the Obama Care

program and its effects you will see it will actually increase the people on medicaid. There is no way to add millions of nonpaying people to a system and it not increase government outlays...which are funded by hard working producers who are having their money transferred to the moochers. Obama Care has more lose ends than a bowl of spaghetti.

"I don't think we can deny a constitutional right to a citizen just because he is on a watch list."

The older brother was not a citizen and was the one on the watch list. The younger brother just became a naturalized citizen 09/11/12. His recently awarded citizenship could have been immediately revoked based on the fact that it was obtained under false pretenses and that he lied when he swore his allegiance. Stroke of a pen by the State Department. That is what should have been done immediately and then he should have been held, interrogated for as long as necessary, tried, and executed as an enemy combatant.

Liberalism allows Terrorism

Sounds pretty simple and understandable boiled down the meat of the argument.

Maybe it is time to conservatively screen visas and citizenship applications for what they bring to and can do for America, instead looking at how the immigrants/new citizens will end up voting?

out, Augusta Chronicle Editorial Staff! The looney left will accuse you of nefarious crimes such as: starving little children, not paying the way for All who set foot on our shores, wanting to stop those who vote for a living, and little Johnny stubbing his toes last Thursday while breaking into 89 year old Mrs. Smith's house.

Off medicaid and onto other government program!!! Wow, thats brilliant t3bledsoe; why couldn't anyone else think of this?? All hail Obama!! He found a brilliant way of fixing a government program...............change it's name!! But the bigger problem is, people actually fall for this stuff; AMAZING!!!

Well, thats just typical liberal jargon; no matter what the problem is, blame America. Therefore THEY (liberals) can work so tirelessly to make her better than she has ever been. Because THEY are the only ones can fix it, right?

And now illegal immigration is ALL our fault because we are racist towards Mexicans. After all, this is actually their Country; at least part of it. The rest belongs to the American Indians and we should give it back immediately, because we stole it. Same non-sense, different day!!

Great article Chronicle!
The reason we are being played for suckers..... is because we are suckers!

As to the comment about being a US citizen, I flat don't care. Common sense needs to trump being a citizen. Seems like the oath of office for the President and for all military members is "to protect and defend against all enemies, foreign and domestic"...... Get it!??

The attitude expressed by this editorial is tired.

If he qualified for assistance, he gets assistance. Being placed on some terror watch list doesn't void due process.

I can't keep track these days. Is government bad or good? 'Cause giving Obama the authority to essentially side-step the Constitution doesn't seem like something most conservatives would be thrilled about.

No, Jack234, HE WAS NOT A CITIZEN.

His younger brother was, but NOT HE!

Even if he had been, you'd have us believe that we should require taxpayers to fund his bomb making activities because that's what our system requires.

Heaven please spare us from liberals/progressives!!!!

Real Fraud

ACES wrote: "Absolutely we must feed and accommodate the hungry and truly disabled. That’s not the issue. The issue is rampant fraud."

Rampant fraud. That is a serious issue. However, as usual, ACES chooses to focus on the minuscule amount of food assistance fraud, while continuing to ignore THE REAL FRAUD that costs the USA billions of dollars every year.

It's called corporate fraud. It is estimated that 15% of all public companies engage in this illicit practice, including money laundering.

But ACES chooses to lash out at the poor once again. Gotta make sure those folks that might get some extra meals are PROSECUTED, while the cigar-chomping CEO's of a billion-dollar enterprise just get more pats on the back in return for their crimes.

But why would I expect anything else from this newspaper?

Minuscule?? Unbelieveable!!!

Minuscule?? Unbelieveable!!!

There are numerous cases discovered everyday in this area alone. Most of the time they aren't major news and there isn't much punishment. They usually just choose to make them pay back the owed amount and these cases never go to court. Wonder why these cases aren't prosecuted? One could say that it isn't worth the time and effort to tie up federal prosecutors for INDIVIDUAL cases of EBT fraud; and I wouldn't totally disagree with that. BUT, one could also say they don't want attention brought to the issue; both are valid and could be very true.

Just another pathetic attemp to say "We are for the poor guys, and those evil conservatives are for the rich." Its all a bunch of........well lets be nice and just say untruths.
