And then he set about to prove it.
The new secretary of state this week pledged to release $250 million in aid to Egypt – using money that the U.S. doesn’t have to shore up support for an authoritarian Islamist regime in Cairo that may not even have the support of the Egyptian people for long.
And at a time in which the Obama administration cynically closed our White House to public tours due to a lack of money!
There is no making sense of this. It’s just stupid.
We also recently rewarded the clearly anti-Semitic Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi with four fighter jets, the latest among 224 such F-16s going to a country in political upheaval and on track to become a theocracy like Iran.
The New York Times had this to say recently:
“Nearly three years ago, a leader of the Muslim Brotherhood delivered a speech urging Egyptians to ‘nurse our children and our grandchildren on hatred’ for Jews and
Zionists. In a television interview months later, the same leader described Zionists as ‘these bloodsuckers who attack the Palestinians, these warmongers, the descendants of apes and pigs.’
“That leader, Mohamed Morsi, is now president of Egypt.”
This guy? This guy is worth a $250 million U.S. taxpayer bet?
And in case you didn’t know it, the Muslim Brotherhood is not only racist and violent, but also nearly as women-hating as the Taliban. Where the heck are American feminists on this issue?
Would America have shipped fighter jets and $250 million in cool cash to the racist regime in South Africa at the height of apartheid? Of course not. Fact is, Americans protested outside the White House to get this country to denounce apartheid and cut all ties with it.
So how is this administration able to get away with actually strengthening ties with – and throwing our money willy-nilly at – an equally reprehensible ideology?
