What are they teaching?

Crude cartoon serves up warped interpretation of free market

  • Follow Editorials

These are the people teaching children in California?

The California Federation of Teachers has produced an animated video, narrated by far-left actor Ed Asner, that is as blatant a commercial for socialism – or worse – than anything Fidel Castro or the old Soviet Union could’ve put together.

The video argues that rich people are evil and obtained their wealth, as the Hollywood Reporter summed it up, “through tax loopholes, tax cuts and tax evasion.”

Somehow, hard work, long days and nights, skill, talent and dedication don’t figure into success, according to the California teachers.

Most outrageously, though, the unrepentant propaganda cartoon actually depicts a rich person urinating on the less well-off.

Now, Asner is an avowed socialist who doesn’t buy into the very free market system he’s lived quite well off of for decades. He has that right. But heaven help us if that video or its anti-capitalist views are allowed to poison our children’s minds.

“The idea that there are any California teachers currently in classrooms in charge of children who agree with that is horrifying,” conservative commentator Tucker Carlson concluded after seeing it.

“It was pretty bad. I have to say, even I found it offensive,” adds liberal commentator Kirsten Powers. “It was too much demonizing for my taste.”

Time was when parents could rest easy in the knowledge that American schools were teaching their children the ins and outs of the American free enterprise system. Not so today. Today, you’ve got socialists paid to be in the classrooms – and an organization such as Junior Achievement, which teaches the values and methods of entrepreneurship, passing the hat to get into limited numbers of schools.

Is it any wonder that socialism – which teaches that wealth should be shared without regard to who produced it or how responsible the recipient of the transferred wealth is – is on the rise in America?

Indeed, Gallup says 53 percent of Democrats have a positive view of socialism.

Interestingly, Merriam-Webster this week announced that the words of the year – the “most looked-up” – were capitalism and socialism.

Keep reading, kids!

In fact, here’s a suggestion. How about the California teachers’ next video be about the many benefits of socialism? About how a person can go to school and work and strive to better himself and one day succeed, only to be told that he “didn’t build that” and isn’t paying his “fair share” and must give more of what he earns to someone else who didn’t earn it. Oh, and make sure to note that the system has never worked for long, and is about as immoral a political system as you can dream up.

We can’t wait to see that video!

Limited run

I suppose this film must have a limited run because my 2 children (8th & 11th grade) have never seen it. They do, however, understand the value of working hard to achieve the positive results that manifests itself in their grades and musical abilities.

Hey, speaking of the rich...

Word is that Mitt Romney came away from his luncheon with the President feeling much better about not having won the election.

The White House is old, small, cramped, and cheaply appointed, compared to the homes he's used to living in.

Fair is fair

Well gee whiz! If public schools can get away with teaching socialism to our kids without touching on the other aspects in order to make them free thinkers (not to mention parental approval), then why not teach creationism (God created the world in 7 days) and not mention evolution at all! That would be fair, wouldn't it?

Oh yeah, I keep forgetting that obama was handed a second term on a silver platter and that extreme liberals will rule the universe for the next 4 years. Beam me up, Scotty. This part of planet Earth is regressing at an alarming rate.

Let me help you out here...........the MAIN goal of business, whether large or small, whether Democratic owned or Republican owned is to make a PROFIT; The laws governing business perks such as loopholes, tax cuts, write-offs..........ALL are available to ANY business entity. It is a fact, that the "small" business owner generally is not trying to get rich and burden some poor schmuck into poverty with sub-par wages. But, the small business owner's number one priority is to look out for the welfare of HIS family, not yours; that is YOUR job. When I started my first business, it was not with the idea of creating an environment of prosperity for everyone that worked for me; it was to help insure that I could buy a new car when we needed one, and help to send all three kids to college. While I did pay about 20% above the average for the jobs I created, I was still under what some would call ideal pay scales.............my pay philosophy was simple, I asked anybody that worked for me to be honest and tell me what they needed for an hourly wage....then I paid them what they requested; this gave me overhead figures so that I could bid my jobs effectively. I, then calculated this overhead and passed it on to my potential customer...................my results, the employee was happy and did a good job because he was getting paid what he thought he was worth, and my customer was happy because the job was done properly and ALWAYS under budget.

The problem with this new "socialist" workforce, is that they want you to pay them more for doing less, and if you have any "extra" profit, then it belongs to them not you; because you are the EVIL business owner................even though you are the one taking ALL of the risks, ALL of the overhead, ALL of the liability...........you're evil, because you want to keep your own profits.

There is coming a day, maybe sooner than expected, when ALL of the "REAL" workers and business owners either die out, or retire, and leave all of this socialist agenda for you liberals to make it work on your own backs and not ours................I have been retired 4 years, and although I still pay taxes through local sales and property taxes; I pay zero to any other tax base; heck, because of Social Security, I don't even have to file a tax return anymore. Just wait until we all are retired, and the money HAS to come out of YOUR pocket..........

Well they need to teach about

Well they need to teach about socialism in history then compare to the history of the US-need I say more. British Empire, Persian Empire, Rome-even the greater Mongol Empire can't compare to the wealth and success of America. We live in a wonderful land of opportunity-especially now. We have been blessed beyond compare. We have a military than would anyone in history would awe. We've accumulated more nobel prizes than anyone else, made numerous contributions to the arts too and not just the sciences. The data is irrefutable and we can say with impunity-WE ROCK! Obama and the Dems make numerous false arguments about how we got in this mess and how to fix it and the people buy into and the Repubs are too stupid to defend. It's pathetic. I hope the Rep party just goes away, then with one party it will be meaningless to be a "Dem" because it will be all about ideas and not politics. The Dem party will die too-its inevitable-like evolution.
