The wrong track

Voters who re-elected Obama kept America on an unsustainable path

  • Follow Editorials

“Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country.”

– John F. Kennedy

Your world changed. Overnight.

There can be little doubt that America will be a different country in the years ahead than it has been historically. New rails have been laid on the collectivist track we’ve been put on, and the engineer has been told to go full speed ahead.

How goofy is this: NBC reports that a majority of voters polled after they voted Tuesday said the country is “seriously off on the wrong track.” But they voted to stay on it!

The class-envy mentality that encourages taking from others and expanding government handouts has been given a green light – just two years after a 2010 election in which the country was lurched in the opposite direction, toward fiscal sanity and self-reliance.

That’s a nation that doesn’t know what it stands for.

At best, what it stands for has changed utterly, and perhaps unalterably. John F. Kennedy’s legendary inaugural exhortation to think of country first has been flipped on its head. Today, we are encouraged to ask what our country can do for us, with money borrowed from our children and those yet to be born.

That’s immoral.

A country, by the way, that is already $16 trillion in debt and facing $60 trillion or more in future costs for Medicare and Social Security and Medicaid and other promises.

A country in which nearly half the population pays no federal income taxes – many of whom actually receive payments, money taken from a shrinking productive class.

A country facing huge tax increases so deftly hidden in the weeds of the thousands of pages of Obamacare that few see them coming.

Those around the world who see only a telegenic, charismatic leader who diminishes and downplays America’s role in the world may celebrate, but perhaps unaware of what his promised fundamental transformation of this country may end up looking like. Those world citizens whose lifestyles depend on a strong America may end up not liking the new transformation after all.

This country is not on a sustainable track. It is on the same track that is taking Western Europe over the edge. It turns out that we’re no more resistant to the allure of “other people’s money.”

At some point, as Margaret Thatcher warned about the pitfalls of socialism, we will run out of other people’s money.

That day has only been pushed closer.

Humble....

If conservatives are as smart as you say, why couldn't they figure out a way to beat Obama? The answer conservatives believe is true, although they rarely say so in an honest and public way, is that Democratic voters are stupid, lazy, and greedy. If you do not agree with that characterization, please tell us your explanation of why more voters preferred Obama. Oh, wait, I forgot, is it that lying liberal media?

If tax cuts created jobs
Unpublished

If tax cuts created jobs ...we'd have jobs! This isn't rocket science. We've had the Bush tax cuts for a decade, how long exactly does it take for them to work?

Now the solution Republicans have to fix the economy is the EXACT SAME LOAD OF CRAP they used back in the early 2000's (and basically since Reagan ushered in Trickle Down Economics).

The rich are richer than ever, that's indisputable. So what the hell are they waiting for?

The ignorance of these people is simply amazing. You can support a party that fed you a bowl full of garbage during the Bush administration, see it completely destroy our economy.... and yet they sit there and continue to support the SAME POLICIES.

Maybe splitting the country into two might not be such a bad idea. Let's let the Republican states run themselves how they want, as their own nation, and Democratic states can do the same.

Let them sink into a Third World country where science and math are nothing more than magical tools of witchcraft the bad people want to fool you with and catastrophic weather shifts are God's vengeance for sins.

These people are crazy.

Ann Coulter: "People are

Ann Coulter: "People are suffering. The country is in disarray. If Mitt Romney cannot win in this economy, then the tipping point has been reached. We have more takers than makers and it's over. There is no hope."

For all you conservatives out there who agree with Ann, here's some good news! Today I am announcing the opening of my new company, No Hope Travel. For a relatively modest amount, my company will fly you, your family, pets, and tax accountant, to a compound high in the Andes Mountains of Venezuela where you can commiserate with descendants of genuine German National Socialists about the evils of Obama and Winston Churchill. The Koch brothers have generously volunteered one of their private jets to fly you to your Andean Shangri la. Just think, no Obama, no Obamacare, no water, heat, or AC. Plenty of llamas though.
Sign up today and beat the rush!

by definition of terms, many of you are being mislead...

Definition of SOCIALISM
1: any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods
2 a : a system of society or group living in which there is no private property
b : a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state

No private property, ownership and control of production by the state. No one, I mean NO ONE from the democratic party is espousing this, a perfect example of the 'straw man' so many are railing against.

The Rep are like dinosaurs

The Rep are like dinosaurs when it comes to politikin' compared to Dems who have finally mastered it after their years of struggle. The difference is the Dems are better at politikin'-not that they really have great appeal. Polls indicate people distrust either party and Congress still has a dismal approval rating. The reason there are so many independents is people are sick of political machines and seek issue specific posits-after years of supporting one party or the other. Party really has no meaning to a growing majority of Americans-and I wish the bipolarity would stop-hee,hee. Something like 90-83% of Americans believe in "God" although 23 % claim no particular religion. So spirituality is a matter of conscience-not political pandering as most people are over abortion, etc. America still runs middle to slightly right and I don't think this elections indicates a massive change to the left. It was like voting for the lesser of two evils.

"I guess we will now see if raising taxes creates jobs"

It's not raising taxes. It's letting the Bush tax cuts expire and going back to the normal tax rate. When the Bush era tax cuts expire, the rates will go back to the Clinton era levels that brought us a economic surplus.

Those ranting about socialism need to grow up.

Stop using words you don't understand like socialist, Marxist, communist, and fascist. There are very few socialists on the American left. And socialism is not communism. My guess would be that 99.9% are not even socialists. Calling everyone on the progressive side a socialist makes no more sense than calling all Republicans fascists.

We have a mixed economy of regulated capitalism with social programs. That's what every successful economy in the world is. Think about that. It's what works. What those on the right want is unregulated capitalism, which has always created economic disaster, especially for working people. It created the Robber Barron era of the 19th century, the Great Depression and the current economic mess and it's redistribution of wealth to the top 10%.

Greedy and lazy! Thanks Humble and JTF for your forthrightness. Along with the "socialism" canard, calling Democratic voters greedy and lazy is one of the right's cherished liberal stereotypes. Oh course if it is true that tax consumers outnumber tax producers, Republicans will NEVER win another U.S. Presidential election, so the news is not all bad....

Gaffe communism is a form of

Gaffe communism is a form of socialism. America isn't becoming socialist but Obama has often spoke (in his books and video) of his penchant for socialism and appreciation of communism-similar a fondness for all religions. Historically many of African-americans who have sought the presidency and vice-presidency party nominations have been socialist-and some communist: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_African-American_United_States_pres...
Of course, even if Obama wanted socialism or communism-he himself could do little to propagate such an end-he only executes laws (well an american citizens without due process) not make the laws. You could apply parsimony to Obama from these statistics but it wouldn't be kosher. Now Hollywood and the music industry has a long history of supporting socialism and even communism-mainly starting as a response to the Depression.

Since Obama has gotten his second, watch out for all kind of unpleasant information to surface about him. Unless he shuts down anything negative about himself.

"Lady" Valerie, whom he checks with before blowing his nose, has promised pay back to the opposition. Carter did the same thing when he was elected Governor, probably president, as well.

The left leaning commentors

The left leaning commentors on here are absolutey correct. This Country is going left more and more. I believe there will be another Democrat elected in 2016. Even the founding fathers warned that once you become dependent on the government, you can't go back. It's like drugs, once you've tried it, it's hard as heck to beat the addiction. But, just as with drugs, drugs will destroy you and big governement will destroy this Country. Ask Greece, once the money for all these entitlement programs run out and the Country can simply not afford to pay them anymore, the people will absolutely riot and take to the streets. Why? Because they are addicted to govmint money and honestly don't know how to live without it. It's unsustainable, period.

You're a bit confused JTF. It's you that won't like it if the Republicans don't win the White House again. I'll like it just fine, thanks. The biggest issue for me is, and has always been, the Supreme Court. A few more Democratic presidents will insure a liberal majority on the court for the first time in 30 years, and Scalia and Thomas will just be bad memories.

@loblolly

"For example, fightig against gay marriage is as futile as was the fight against civil rights. It will eventually be legal everywhere in this country, as attitudes of upcoming generations will make it so."

You are absolutely correct. I won't argue with any liberal who says this Country is going more left. It's not just opinion, its factual. The newer generations are more left of center. I have no doubt the left will win more and more battles such as gay marriage. It's going to happen, period. They had an absolutely brilliant plan, starting early this century. That plan was to defeat the traditional America, from the inside out. One of the most important aspects of this plan was to take over the education system. They knew you can't teach an old dog, new tricks. So, they taught the young dogs, new tricks. Our Children!! The public education systems all through the Country, even in the south, have been taken over by Liberal educators and they teach our children a "New way of thinking". They teach our children a "deeper thinking" and to leave those old Bible teachings behind, if you want to be part of the future.

They successfully removed God from any discourse in public schools. They used lawyers and the high cost of lawsuits, to intimidate those who would fight to keep God alive in public schools. They tell the children they are shallow and prejudice if they believe what the Bible tells them. Just as Al Gore famously said to a group of high school students "There are things about this world that you know, that your parents and grandparents just don't know." Mr. Gore, what would that be?

I must give credit where it is due, there plan is absolutely brilliant. If it weren't for the return of Christ, to correct this world, I would have zero faith that things will get better. I actually don't think things would have gotten much better under Romney. The President is only one part of the problem. But anway, this Country is going left, thats a fact. Leftists, you've done an absolutely awesome job at changing the hearts of the children and the new generations.

But, the one problem and the biggest problem you will have is that God is a reality, not a religion. He has promised he is sending Christ again and it's going to happen. He has foretold us all this would happen and told us to be strong and faithful and we shall be rewarded. So, enjoy your victories, while they last. The ultimate victory is coming, very soon. I just hope that many will see the error of their ways before it's too late. I hope they will change and honestly seek God. Many won't but that is on them. Free will, you know.

"Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,

II Timothy 3

This know also, that in the last days perilous times (meaning hard to bare) shall come.

2For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

3Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

4Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

5Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

6For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,

7Ever learning, and NEVER able to come to the knowledge of the TRUTH.

8Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.

9But they shall proceed NO FURTHER: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.

10But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,"

He tells us all things, he told us exactly how things would be in this day. It's very hard to bare, but we must put on the armour of Ephesians Chapter 6, to stand strong. Victory will be with those that love God and accept His savior Christ.
