Snark attack

Biden's bravado staves off Ryan just enough in VP debate

  • Follow Editorials

In the end, the vice presidential debate Thursday was pretty much like every other – consequential only by its being inconsequential. Neither candidate swayed the election.

But that’s something of a win for the Obama/Biden ticket, in that Vice President Joe Biden’s bravado may have stopped the team’s bleeding for now.

Neither the left-leaning moderator nor the overly genteel Republican candidate Paul Ryan stood up to Biden sufficiently enough to make for a respectful, reasoned discussion of the issues.

In particular, Ryan failed to adequately skewer Biden for the administration’s catastrophic security failures at our embassy in Libya, or the contradictory tall tales Obama officials have authored since then.

At the same time, Biden’s Cheshire cat grin, bizarre cackling and multiple interruptions – someone counted over 80 – while clearly a strategy to retake the offensive, was also off-putting for many.

“He was condescending at times to Paul Ryan,” concluded even liberal CNN contributor Gloria Borger. “I think I could have done with a lot less eye-rolling and chuckling ...”

“That mugging, those condescending looks – it was a complete turnoff,” the Associated Press quoted body language expert Lillian Glass as saying. “He was bullying, he was smug, he interrupted ... I think he lost a lot of his message based on facial gestures.”

At the same time, Ryan’s acquiescence to Biden’s antics was a bit passive for a prospective national leader. You were left either thinking he was a nice young man or not ready to sit across the table from Putin.

Again, likely a wash.

The real legacy of the debate, aside from Biden’s dental work and off-the-charts testosterone level, may be an encouragement to President Obama to be like Biden in the next presidential debate. Let’s hope not. We’ve already had enough snark and ridicule in this campaign to last a lifetime.

These are serious times requiring serious leaders with serious solutions. Biden may have won points for toothy bombast, but that won’t put food on the table or make us safer at night.

Biden charge of embassy cuts

Biden charge of embassy cuts is laughable. We have been running a 1.2 trillion deficit for 3 years now and not had a budget even passed. Money was there for friends of Obama but not security for our embassy personnel is a tragedy considering our spending spree. Guess it ain't fun to spend money even borrowed money on security when you can spend it on unions, parties at the white house, two jets for vacations etc..money was just to tight on non sexy things like security.

Biden looked into the camera

Biden looked into the camera and said who do you trust? Do we need to spell out all the promises that were made? Mmmmm. One of my favorite is Obama always getting it. That we need jobs going to focus like a laser beam. 1 meeting with his super job council..or the transparency promise on every bill? how did that work. Or cspan carrying the in and outs of obumler care debate. No back room deals. No secrets. It's and endless list. Like Biden said who do you trust?

Biden also looked squarely in

Biden also looked squarely in the cameras and said that no Catholic organization would have to fund birth control or abortions through its health insurance, also a lie. You have two choices about the Embassy attack, either Obama didn't ask and didn't care what happened in Libya so he wrote and gave speeches based on ignorance, or he knew the truth of what happened in Libya and promulgated a lie, either choice is not good for Obama and Biden. After Biden was caught in an outright lie at least 3 times in the one debate who do you trust?

Writes: "To quote our friends on the left..........Obama lied, people died....."

Actually if you were to quote your friends on the left it would be:

"Bush lied, people died" or "Cheney lied, people died"

Now, had you said "to paraphrase our friends on the left........."

But what does this poor little ol' proud to be a 47%er high school dropout know about proper use of the English language.

And yes, that is sarcastic condensation.

Why Repubs can't win

"Neither the left-leaning moderator nor the overly genteel Republican candidate Paul Ryan stood up to Biden sufficiently". ACES know with the national media it is not a level playing field. One harsh word from Ryan & all that smirking/laughing would have never been mentioned. No matter what Repubs do, the RINO's in our ranks continue to kill us.

I will no longer give you a down thumbs because that actually in some way gives you points. You can assume that every time you post, I will mentally be giving you a thumbs down. I remember only one post I have ever seen from you I agreed with.

That said, I thank you for your service to our country. I assume you did it when you did not have to.

KSL, SFC Albert S. Pino 5' 7"

KSL, SFC Albert S. Pino 5' 7" one of the scariest and toughest NCO's I ever knew said to me and 40 other young men in May 1965 that there were two things he was sure that we would never forget for the rest of our lives. The first would be him, the second would be our service number. In those days we did not use our social security number. Draftees began with the letters US, National Guard NG, and a small percentage, who were volunteers, RA for Regular Army. SFC Pino was right. I can still, all these years later, spit that RA# out with ease. Get a check deposited to my bank account once a month too. That engenders a lot of "Entitlement Envy" in this neck of the woods. Trust me on that. But Thanks anyway folks!

Oh, and as an afterthought re: your "KSL10/13/12 - 10:10 pm" post, I sleep well at night knowing that I and millions of my comrades over the last 200 plus years have served to protect your right to say stuff like that.
