A manufactured 'right'

Sandra Fluke represents another red-herring election distraction

  • Follow Editorials

With the economy stalled and the “hope” posters fading on the bedroom walls, Democrats have tried to make this election about anything and everything else. Mitt Romney’s taxes. Mitt Romney’s (considerable) business experience. Mitt Romney’s dog.

But the most inane, laughable red herring is the narrative that taxpayers somehow owe women free contraceptives – and if we don’t provide them, there’s a “war on women.”

This seemed to Democrats to be such a promising hoax that they elevated a frustrated 30-something law student, Sandra Fluke, not only to the level of congressional testimony but to a prime-time national convention speech normally accorded to the likes of governors and senators. The president of the United States even took time to call her on the phone at one point this year.

It tells you plenty about the state of this Union when a major party does something like that – and most of the media don’t bat an eye, except in admiration.

Before we replace Susan B. Anthony’s statue with Sandra Fluke’s, though, let’s get some perspective here.

This woman is not fighting for some civil right such as suffrage. She’s touting a wholly new and imaginary government obligation to finance her sex life with free contraceptives.

Now, America is the land of the free, certainly, and Ms. Fluke and those like her are free to live any which way is legal, whatever the hazards. It’s the legacy of the “free love” generation, one supposes. But let’s be clear about this: There is no constitutional or civil right to “free sex.”

Moreover, requiring that tax money be taken from one person and given to another for such use is, itself, highly immoral and offensive.

Just understand that, no matter what you see coming from the Democratic Party, you have no obligation to pay for someone else’s consequence-free sex. Fact is, you have a good argument against your money and you being treated that way.

That a major American political party is postulating such a bogus “civil right,” and the media and large swaths of the public are buying it, says much about the likely future course of this country.

Nothing good, however.

I'm less worried...

...abut whether Ms. Fluke has her birth control pills covered by her insurance, (they only cost a few bucks a month anyway, big whoop, pay for 'em yourself lady) than I am by the healthcare mandate that makes religious organizations pay for this "service" even though it goes against that religion's beliefs...

Big Brother and bureaucratic meddling at it's worst.

Techfan....how about Dahlia

Techfan....how about Dahlia Mogahed....."An influential Muslim adviser to the White House who has ties to the Muslim Brotherhood"

She has intervened to prevent Obama from meeting with the leader of the Maronite christian church in Lebanon based on a request by the Muslim Brotherhood.

She has been instrumental on belhalf of the Muslim Brotherhood in preventing Coptic christians in Egypt from getting a meeeting with the White House or Hillary Clinton.

She has tweeted that one reason to overthrow the regime in Syria is because "they can no longer resist Israel".

One of the stated goals of White House advisor Dahlia Mogahed is to pave the way for acceptance of Sharia law in the U.S.

Anyone with common sense can look at what has happened in the middle east and the snubs to Israel and see the influence and sympathetic support for the Muslim Brotherhood in the Obama administration.

And speaking of vile politics

And speaking of vile politics , Mike Papantonio, a stand in for Ed Schultz on MSNBC 2 days ago said this about Mitt Romney :

Liberal Radio Host Calls Romney a Mentally Ill 'Millionaire Toad' and 'Criminal'..
Bet you didn't hear much about that, right. Right. The radical liberals can get away with anything..after all.....

Seenitb4's got this issue

Seenitb4's got this issue dead right, and the ACES is dead wrong:

"We pay one way or the other
To my Rep. friends....we will either pay for some type of birth control or pay for schools-food-housing-cells-hairdos-nails....please rethink this..."

This isn't about women having some sort of "right" to free birth control, as the ACES stubbornly, and wrongly, claims. And it's not about the morality of sex, either. It's about what our country can afford, and how we maximize our potential.

People like Ms. Fluke are fighting against a blind moralism on the Right that can't handle the simple economics of this issue: women having children when they CHOOSE, not every time they get pregnant, is far better for our nation's future and economic health than if the reverse were to occur.

And ANY politician or voter that thinks that the answer to the above problem is abstinence has such a misinformed understanding of the reality of human behavior that I, personally, question their very ability to make sensible policy for a real world. They are making policy for a nonexistent fantasy.

Our country can no longer afford a gov't that executes the power of the purse with its heart instead of its brain.

Funny how if liberals like
Unpublished

Funny how if liberals like something they think it should be mandatory and someone else should be forced to pay for it, but if they don't like something they think it should be banned and no one should have it. For people who claim to be all about peoples rights and tolerence and all that good stuff, if they had their way we would live in the most restrictive and totalitarian societys I can imagine. Never trust the libs, they are not honarable people.

Burninater What is wrong with

Burninater What is wrong with some one having self control? We are not dogs in heat for heavens sake! I just read that the government Has given out over a million tax payer funded (that is called free Obama phones to the recipients) cell phones with 4 hours/month free calls! The idea that tax payers are required to provide all this "free "garbage is getting over bearing to say the least! Let the sluts pay for thier own birth control or may be the slugs the sluts knock boots with can!

Could the birth control issue

Could the birth control issue maybe be partially solved by giving dead beat dads a little snip. After all, a woman can only birth a baby once every 9 months, in that length of time a man can father dozens. Just asking.

As usual, those on the Right prove they really don't

know what they are talking about.

I'll say it loud and clear: WOMEN USE BIRTH CONTROL FOR REASONS BEYOND CASUAL SEX.

Ms. Fluke testified about a friend of hers who needed birth control for health reasons, NOT for sex.

But carry on... I'm enjoying the GOP free fall.

The hormone pills are already

The hormone pills for medical conditions are already covered, this is a distraction! Most drug copanies hav programs for people that can't afford medication and Doctors often provide free medication for patients by giving them samples from drug companies. One of my class mates in Nursing school had trouble playing for some medicaton so my wife andI , also struggiling students chiped in to help her. This is just more Brovo Sierra!

Carcraft, did I say there was

Carcraft, did I say there was anything wrong with self-control? What I said was that the REALITY is that there are babies being born that the tax payer ends up paying for, unless we want them to starve to death, and that birth control is a heck of a lot cheaper than a starving mouth. This isn't about who wins the Morality Pageant. It's about simple DOLLARS AND CENTS.

Some of our politicians need to turn their brains on for or just a second now and again and do what's SMART for a change, rather than doing what strokes their holier-than-thou egos.

burninater- the irresponsible

burninater- the irresponsible will be irresponsible. That is why we are having babies born out of wed. The Federal Government subsidizes it, there fore you get more of it. You can go down to Planned Parent hood and get your birth control for next to nothing, etc. Instead flakey Fluke thinks a constitutional crises and raising ever bodies health insurance premiums (as if they aren't high enough now) so she can get birth control pills so tax payers can fund her slutty fun is a good idea. I know lets give her a speaking position at our national convention while we honor the US military with pictures of Turkish Aircraft and Russian ships. Sounds good to me!

As I've always said; If truth

As I've always said; If truth offends, does it make it any less true?

So which is it to be? Freedom of the press when you are in agreement only? A myriad of dictators, self styled "leaders of the people" and repressive goverments throughout history have taken that position. The results? Always strife, suffering, revolution and untold human loss of life.

I have these really nifty little things on all my communication devices. They mainly include "off" swithes and methods of changing the channel, not to mention the click of a mouse. The news is the news. Make what you want of it but it's still the news. I live in a nation where the founders thought that a free and unhindered press was rather a good idea, even essential to the survival of our freedom. It seems to me that some folks don't like that idea when it doesn't suit their agenda.

Well fortunatley there is a solution to all that. An Amendment to the Constitution would do it. Good luck in convincing the rest of America.

A tip o' the hat to myfather for one thing though. He had the courage to answer via post rather than take the cowards way out and let "Big Brother" downtown do his work for him. I have to and do respect that, which is why I chose not to report his post to our beloved Nannies downtown.

Whose truth? I can rembember

Whose truth? I can rembember when there were not a lot of babies born to single moms. The government didn't enable it. Nor did parents who would have to pick up the tab for their daughter or son having a kid.

Fluke was attempting to say

Fluke was attempting to say that the government should force a religious based school to provide birth control to the students who voluntarily choose to attend their institution. It doesn't matter that some people have private insurance that provides for Viagra or any medicine. Fluke also failed to understand or take into account that birth control is readily and cheaply, many times freely, available at free clinics and "Planned" parenthood outlets. Her arguments were full of logic holes big enough to drive trucks through.

Of Course liberals won't

Of Course liberals won't accept it, no matter where they read it. They will just deny it, no matter what the source. They will just call names as Techfan did previously, to get people to believe it isn't as it seems. Don't believe what you see, believe what we tell you!! Just be Sheeps, (Baaaaaaaaaa). Because their plan is for people to wake up just a little too late and it's working. Elephant/Zebra, Radical Islamist/Founding father!!!

Hey liberals, I got to give it too you, your plan is working extremely well. But guess what? God foretold us this would happen, YOU STILL LOSE!!!

I never claimed what you said

I never claimed what you said is unconstitutional or illegal. I just said it was disgusting and you should be ashamed. To use a families tradgedy to make a political point is disgusting. Just because a "News media outlet" say something, does that make it true?? Since they said a man killed his family and himself because he was "tortured" by the prospects of Obama being reelected. Because the "media" reported it that way, does that make it true?? So do you believe everything Fox news reports, just as they report it??

This (Suicide) is an area that shouldn't have been touched or gone near in a political discussion such as this. I repeat, its disgusting and vile!! Anyone who works with suicidal people knows all too well there is much more going on than you see on the surface. There is usually very deep issues inside. It just isn't right, period!! But, once again, the Bible foretold us this would happen. "They shall make wrong seem right and right seem wrong". Ooooh, I must have forgot, Romney also gave a woman cancer when he worked a Bain Capitol, seeing that was proven to be soooooo true, right?

By the way Retired, I do love the saying "If the truth offends, does it make it any less true?" I also love "If the truth offends, maybe it should!!" But what does that have to do with the discussion you and I are involved in? Can you sit there and tell me BEYOND A SHADOW OF DOUBT, that you ABSOLUTELY KNOW that man killed himself and his family because he was tortured by the prospect of Obama being reelected?? So, if you can't, do you think maybe you shouldn't be reposting such accusations?? I understand it was reported by a news outlet, but does that make it fact, or make it ok for you to repost? As I've stated many times before, I'm a Deputy of 15 years. Many of the cases I've been personally involved in, you fine people have read about on here many times. What gets reported in the news is many times, far from the truth!!! Thats first hand knowledge my friend, not rumor!! So, I stick to my guns here, If truth offends, does it make it any less true? You can't prove what you said is true.

Does 16 TRILLION in debt ring a bell Burninator?? So, tell me exactly what we can afford. This birth control, whether it be for "fun" or "health" reasons, is just another example of unneeded spending, along with literally thousands of others. We CAN NOT afford to continue this massive spending. At least not without taxing our citizens beyond an unimaginable amount. We are selling our children and grandchildren's futures!! This is insanity!! But, I believe it is exactly what the extreme left wants. They want America to fail so they can rebuild it with socialism/communism.

If you buy a piece of property with intentions to build a mansion on it, but it already has an old run down house on it, what do you do first? You must tear down the old building. The extreme left see their vision of socialism/communism as the MANSION and our Capitolism/Freedom as the Old house, it must be torn down!! The things they are doing aren't insane, they are intentional!!! They are getting the results they want, more debt than we can ever afford to pay off!!!

Techfan;

You wrote; "I have no doubt there are probably some Muslims working for the US government since, 1: There are around 308 million Americans so the odds are in favor of it. 2. Unless the American Taliban (aka: right wing radical "christians") takes over and requires a religious oath for holding an office or working, the US is a free country."

When was the last terroist attack from Christians?? When is the last time you witnessed us taking to the streets burning cars, breaking windows, defecating on police cars or harming other human beings because someone disrespected Jesus in a cartoon, painting or video? Please provide some hard proof of this MASSIVE radical Christian movement that is trying to take over the world. Please don't even attempt to link Timothy Mcveigh to christians before doing some research. He was atheist!! Yes, he grew up in a church but in his own words he never connected to any religion. He and his friends were more along the "Sovereign Citizen" group that is in existance today. They deny the government has ANY right to exist and won't obey any laws. They are idiots, not Christians!!!!

So please, give me an example of this Radical Christian movement (not some individual example but a massive movement) that wants to make everyone take an Oath before holding office!!! Again, I think you've got your religions confused. Christians don't believe EVERYONE should abide by Sharia law, that would be Islam!!!! But thanks for playing, try again sometime!!!!

Oh, by the way; I'm not going to waste my time researching and posting all of them on here but if you will just google "Oaths of office" or "Oaths of congress or president", you will find there are already MANY offices that already require that "Oath" You mentioned. Most of the Oaths already mention God in them. We also still "Swear" people in when they are testifying in Court. I also believe the last words in that "swearing in" are "So help me God". Wow, it might be time to contact your local ACLU rep, huh? This CAN NOT be tolerated!!! It must be so offensive to hear such a reference to God. Maybe we should replace it with "So help me, NOBODY!!"
