Reluctant reporting

Some media seemed far too willing to ignore ICE sex scandal

  • Follow Editorials

If we were living under a Republican administration, the unbelievable sex scandal at Homeland Security would top most newscasts – and the person behind it would be a household name.

As it is, Suzanne Barr, Immigration and Customs Enforcement chief of staff, slunk away quietly, with nary a word from the media until the bitter end – especially from liberal outlets such as CNN, which tried its best to ignore the scandal completely until Barr’s unsightly resignation.

It had become simply unbearable, apparently: Barr is accused by several employees of harassing males so blatantly and publicly that her rule is being described as a “frat house.” At least one man has filed a sexual discrimination and retaliation lawsuit, while several others confirm the characterizations of Barr.

The allegations against her include making embarrassing remarks about a male subordinate’s private parts at an office party and offering to perform sex acts on several male subordinates at other times.

The scandal is all the more embarrassing due to the fact that Barr is no low-level worker; she’s not only chief of staff, but a longtime aide to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.

Barr denies the allegations as “unfounded,” but said she’s resigning to end the distraction for her former department. It won’t, of course: There’s the lawsuit, and Congress will, and should, investigate. Homeland Security also is investigating.

But some news media were awfully late to this party. And the significance of the story – alleged blatant sexual harassment by a top employee at ICE, and a woman to boot – only makes the reluctant reporting more peculiar.

But that’s not even the biggest ICE scandal the news media are largely ignoring.

The agency has been found to have lied about the number of illegal aliens it has deported – to make it appear as if President Obama is tougher on illegal immigration than his predecessors.

ICE has claimed that its deportations are up over the Bush administration’s, but the House Judiciary Committee has uncovered internal documents indicating that deportations actually are down 20 percent.

The committee says ICE essentially is double-counting many illegals, by including in the total number those illegal aliens who simply are transferred from one Border Patrol sector to another before final deportation. Such people end up being counted twice for deportation.

In addition, the committee simply could not confirm the existence of some 40,000 illegals that ICE claims to have deported in its 2012 statistics.

In short, dear citizen, it appears for all the world as if your federal government is flat lying to you about its activities vis-a-vis protecting our border.

If only there were some sexual harassment involved. Maybe then the deportation scandal would get at least a modicum of attention.

This is nothing new of

This is nothing new of course. Since this Apologist In Chief took over, the media has been in his back pocket. The lie, saying the border is more secure than it has EVER been, when every day there are terrible acts of violence on both sides of the border. Mutilated bodies are being discovered along the highways of Arizona. Severed heads turning up in Arizona and Texas. Kidnappings occuring at an alarming rate in Arizona. Do you ever hear any of this reported in the lame stream news media?? Of course not, because it might make this disgusting administration look bad and reduce his chance of reelection.

The tell us the middle east is safer today than in decades. According to them, Obama has fixed everything!!! But of course, they just want you to listen to their WORDS and not pay attention to reality. Its all the illusion, pay attention to the left hand while the right hand is in your pocket. According to the leftists, they do no wrong and do everything right. They have fixed this terrible mess that republicans made. Again, three years later they are still blaming others. Typical liberal mindset to blame everyone but yourself. If I smoke and get cancer, its the tobacco companies fault. If I eat Big Macs everyday and get fat, its McDonald's fault. If someone robs a store and shoots the clerk, its the gun manufacturers fault. Always blame someone besides the person actually responsible for it.

I haven't heard about this

I would think the males would be jumping at the chance for the sex. That is unless she's really ugly.

Some times when I look at the Obama administration I wonder if I am living in the Soviet Union under the Communists read Pravda. The Obama Justice Department was working with a left wing News group Media Matters to dispage reporters a, news net works and spike news stories that didn't pleae the Obama administration. Obama lies about all kinds of things and the Media yawns. It is incredible...What happened to all this horse hockey about "SPEAKING TRUTH TO POWER" BWAHAHAHAHA

She's gone. The big story seems to be Willard speaking at the house of a guy who throws sex parties while people ask him how they can recreate an Iran hostage like situation so he can (and he said he would) take advantage of it. Great Americans aren't they?

If we were living under a Republican administration.......everything would be caught on video, you would hear ( Mitt/Paul) tell more lies than a little bit, downtalking poor people calling them depending on the government, and a bunch of more rich talk trash about working class people while rich folks in the background on video laughing at the 47%.

Not only did the media ignore the Homeland Security scandal, they are ignoring the Department of Justice coordinating emails with the liberal media.

hotsauce, look around and you

hotsauce, look around and you will see that alot of poor people are 100% dependent on the government because they are too lazy to do anything but stay on the government dole. Sad but true. It is time we reduce the "paycheck" and make those that can work do something to earn that money.
But according to them it would be beneath their dignity. So what. This is not a Republican or Democratic problem alone. It is a problem that has been going on for along time and needs to stop. How did the rich get rich? They worked for it, started a business, saved what they earned and worked, worked, worked and worked. No body gave it to them. My first paycheck was at $1.15 per hour and I assure you it is not that now.

More than one in three

More than one in three Americans lived in households that received Medicaid, food stamps or other means-based government assistance in mid-2010, according to a new report.

And when Social Security, Medicare and unemployment benefits are included, nearly half of the nation lived in a household that received a government check.

This was reported in 2010 and has increased so where did Romney lie? Like he said, might not have been said eloquently but it's not a lie.

Food Stamps

Number of people on food stamps have doubled under President Obama and they are worried about Romney's comments??? I would be worried about finding a job under this woeful administration instead of whether someone hurt my little feelings.

I wonder...

I wonder what it would be like if Obama was re-elected. Those who support and vote for him (dependants on government handouts) are expecting their so-called "entitlements" to continue. Do they not see that we are on the verge of financial collapse if we don't turn this around? What will they do when their food stamps no longer have the value to even mail a letter? Who will they blame then?

By the way, entitlements means you have earned it and you are entitled. Welfare, food stamps, etc. are NOT entitlements.

Dang Tech, By your standards

Dang Tech, By your standards there is no true journalism or any viable journalistic source because they are all just progressive or conservative propaganda. Even NPR would fall through the cracks because of their left leaning. So no more sourced info because none are now viable options for an argument. So now I guess it will just be opinions. Which has been the case from the get go. Perhaps the BBC or Aljazeera would qualify-hee,hee,hee.

Romney Statement Great Example

Although we all know he is mathematically correct about the bottom 47%, the press wants too go bananas on him, saying he doesn't care, yada, yada, yada. It's the same way when we talk about getting spending under control and show the numbers. They simply go crazy and don't want to hear it.

Look at the Chicago teachers. They got what they wanted, but now the word is some schools will have to be closed, meaning a loss of jobs and more crowding of classes. Numbers are unemotional....or should be.
