U.S. foreign policy under Obama is a dangerous flop

  • Follow Editorials

Barack Obama recently ridiculed the Republican ticket for its lack of foreign policy experience. But Mr. Obama arguably had less when he ran; at least Mitt Romney ran an Olympics.

Nonetheless, gaffe-master Joe Biden was touted in 2008 as the foreign policy expert on the ticket. Enough said.

This administration has been shown again to be altogether feckless in foreign policy in recent days.

Completely at a loss for what this administration’s policy toward Iran’s nuclear ambitions is, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took the rare step of expressing his frustrations in public, saying, “The world tells Israel: ‘Wait. There’s still time.’ And I say, ‘Wait for what? Wait until when?’ Those in the international community who refuse to put red lines before Iran don’t have a moral right to place a red light before Israel.”

He’s right, of course. And fully within his rights to defend his nation against a regime in Tehran that has pledged to wipe Israel off the map.

Israel used to be able to count on the United States for support and protection. But Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Sunday the administration would set no deadlines on Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

And then the Obama administration was said to have refused to let Netanyahu meet with President Obama, claiming the Campaigner-in-Chief was too busy. Wednesday, as Obama made plans to appear on The Late Show With David Letterman, and as he kept plans to campaign in Las Vegas, the administration scrambled to deny and back away from its unbelievable slight of the Israeli leader – at a time of growing tensions in the Mideast.

All this, on top of a report in The Washington Post that the president does not attend his daily intelligence briefing but about 44 percent of the time. You would think that, in a post-9-11 world, national security would be more of a priority than that.

And then, as two U.S. embassies, in Egypt and Libya, were attacked and the American ambassador to Libya slaughtered and his body desecrated, the Obama administration was quick to denounce – what, the violence? Nope. The administration’s first denunciations were of the Muhammad-depicting movie that supposedly is what inflamed the Islamic radicals (though 9-11 may have been the real catalyst).

Isn’t that bit of submission a little like an abused woman apologizing for overcooking dinner? Can this possibly be the strongest nation on Earth?

And, yes, that was an American administration that just tossed free speech overboard to placate the unplacatable.

Moreover, what are we doing stationing an ambassador in the unstable, under-renovation Libya? That’s just nuts.

You have to wonder why Americans are anywhere in the neighborhood anyway. After we helped liberate Libya, this is their hospitality? Let us know when you’re ready to join the civilized world. You know where we’ll be, which is not over there!

You also have to wonder whether the Obama administration’s continued willingness to keep America dependent on Mideast oil figures into some of this. American energy production isn’t what it could be – and despite the president’s boasting to the contrary, production on federal lands is down. And untapped energy offshore and in the barren Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is just sitting there.

All the while, this president has wasted billions on bankrupt Solyndra and other “green energy” ventures run by Democratic crony friends of the Obama administration. And the supposed Government Motors success the president has been touting? GM is said to be losing $49,000 on each electric Chevy Volt it sells.

The bottom line, as the embassy raids illustrate, is that this country’s foreign policy, as with its economy, is in tatters, and dangerously so.

Just ask the Israelis.

Does the AC not have a factchecker or just lie on purpose?

Just like the Romney/Ryan campaign, the AC will not let their editorials be dictated by facts. In this day of web access, where facts can be checked rather easily, and there are a number of professional fact checking sources available, it's amazing that these folks try to constantly pull a fast one by lying and telling half truths. Why do they do it? They know that very few people go to the trouble to look it up. Like the Romney/Ryan campaign admitted, they know it's a bunch of lies, but it works, so they're sticking with it.

When the US embassies were

When the US embassies were under attack Obama appears to have went to bed! The Obama administration still hasn't set up the intelligence briefings for the Ryan Romney team that are supposed to occur after Romney was nominated. It appears that the Libyan security forces that were supposed to defend the ambassador told the attackers where he was in the compound! Why would you even allow our ambassador to be in such a volatile area without adequate protection! These people are so inept they couldn’t even get the proper pictures of American ships for a tribute to the US military at the Convention. They used pictures of Russian ships! GOOD GRIEF Then of coursse instead of being adults it is blame somebody else. Well Obama helped over throw the Lybian Government and armed the Rebals, it is going to be a little hared to blame Bush but I am sure Obama will try! The lick spittle press will do all it can to insure Americans are diverted and Obama is held blameless!

To add to this the maldroit

To add to this the maldroit press was actually heard planning on how to get a gotcha question to Romney at a press conferance. Do you think any of the press corps (or in Obama's own words corpse) going to ask Obama why he misses over 50% of security breifings?

The AC is living proof of the old adage that if you tell a lie enough times people will believe it. Never mentioned that the President has a positive approval rating for his foreign policy.

It appear that why Obama was

It appear that why Obama was asleep the people at the compound understood just how much trouble they were in!
But hours before the bloody assault, Smith sent a message to Alex Gianturco, the director of "Goonswarm," Smith's online gaming team or "guild."

“Assuming we don’t die tonight,” the message, which was first reported by Wired, read. “We saw one of our ‘police’ that guard the compound taking pictures.”

Within hours of posting that message, Smith, a husband and father of two, was dead. Gianturco, who could not be reached for further comment, got the word out to fellow gamers, according to Wired.

Orchestrated Al Qaeda Attacks

It's becoming increasingly clear that these attacks on the anniversary of 9-11 were planned and carried out by Al Qaeda. If Obama can't make the daily intelligence briefings, let the Republicans go for him. Let them meet with Netanyahu. Anything to lend a helping hand to save this country from the inept administration.

Techfan If People want to invest THEIR money in green energy schemes fine. Bush refused to loan money to Solyndra, documents show this program was doomed to failure, yet Obama went ahead and just as his own finnance office predicted the company was broke by Sept. /don't forget we also have Fisker motors in Findand, ABC, Ener1 owned by a rich Russian, and about 12 to twenty other bankrupt companies that have cost the tax payer a billions. Now where is the Augusta Chronicle wrong?

GM is losing $49,000 on every

GM is losing $49,000 on every Volt? Great talking point until you see how they got that number. First, you add all cost of R & D, add actual cost to build, then also add any other costs associated with the project, then divide by the number of cars sold to at a given point in time. It's like saying that when you open a McDonalds, after franchise fees, construction, R & D to develop the product , and all other costs, the restaurant lost $147,000 on each the first 10 Bic Macs they sold.

http://autos.aol.com/article/fisker-motors-finland-production/ here is the story on several of Obama’s green car company investments! Here we have a nice article about how Fisker motors US plant is closed, basically never went into production for the Nina and the tax payers are on the hook. So since no cars were produced by Fiskers and the 26 people at the US plant have been laid off is the Chronicle wrong? Exactly what has the tax payer received for the $600 million dollar loan? The only place Fisker is going to build cars is in Finland! http://content.usatoday.com/communities/driveon/post/2012/02/fisker-halt...

Destabilization of the Middle East is

the strategy of the Obama Administration. This support of "poor oppressed peasants" in the Middle East was simple political drama. Waging the Dog at its finest. Just tell Americans we are "liberating someone" and they go all ga ga. Flag sales will be up. It is a sick reality show. They don't care if it is true or not. Or whether the oppressed want to be liberated.

Regime change, not for freedom, but for destabilization and communist take overs. This is an old game. The USA and the USSR are masters at the game of "World Domination". It should replace Farmville.

And this is why the GOP is

And this is why the GOP is going to collapse after Obama wins his next term. Just lie after lie, after lie. Obama hasn't apologized for anything. That is a lie. Not attending meetings all the time- sure. But "the president reads his PDB every day" according the Washington Post article. That, "The president gets the information he needs from the intelligence community each day.” More from the article: "“Obama reads the PDB ahead of time and comes to the morning meeting with questions. Intelligence briefers are there to answer those questions, expand on a point or raise a new issue,” The Post reported. “One regular participant in the roughly 500 Oval Office sessions during Obama’s presidency said the meetings show a president consistently participating in an exploration of foreign policy and intelligence issues.”

At least someone is reading them. Unlike one administration that ignored all the intel and warning about 9/11.

But the lies just continue... Rumsfeld said yesterday

"The attacks on our embassies & diplomats are a result of perceived American weakness. Mitt Romney is right to point that out." Of course he forgets that US embassies and consulates were attacked twelve times under Bush, including eight times under Rumsfeld's own tenure.

And before the xenophobia erupts around these parts, just know Libyans also died along side our Americans, and this link will show some pics of the local people.

Andrew Sullivan wrote

Andrew Sullivan wrote yesterday:

[Romney and his] people are simply unfit for the responsibility of running the United States. The knee-jerk judgments, based on ideology not reality; the inability to back down when you have said something obviously wrong; and the attempt to argue that the president of the US actually sympathized with those who murdered his own ambassador in Benghazi: these are disqualifying instincts for someone hoping to be the president of the US. Disqualifying.

EDIT: Sounds a lot like ACES too....

Wrong

You often have good instincts in your political analysis, TParty. But you missed the mark on this one. The only thing Obama has called for regarding the embassy killings is an "investigation." That's another black hole that leads nowhere.

Obama can "deplore the violence" all he wants to in his official statements; but it is his own policies of dithering and dilly-dallying in the Middle East that gave rise to the violence.
